I had to give this cart two stars because they’re organic and the woman who helped me was at least semi-nice, though incredibly unenthusiastic. One star just didn’t seem right. They’re a coffee cart, right? Well, if it’s a good brew you’re looking for, I can’t say I’ve had a worse cup here in Portland. My girlfriend wholeheartedly agreed. In an attempt to make sure that one or the other wasn’t a total drag, I decided to buy the combo they have with a fresh juice as well. After tasting and immediately throwing away the coffee, I fixated my taste buds on my juice hoping that it would spell redemption for the little cart. It sadly did not, as it tasted like the juicer hadn’t been cleaned out in quite a while, thus I most likely will not be returning to Dogfeather’s any time soon. Sorry!

I am a coffee lover, I did not love the coffee. I drank half of it trying to like it, but eventually decided it was either too acidic or something else was going on. Didn’t say much about it and when my husband tasted it he said the same thing, so I don’t think it was just me. The strawberry lemonade is awesome. It comes unsweetened and you have the freedom of sweetening it how you like(splenda, sugar, simple syrup) and to your desired sweetness. I like that a lot, since I hate getting overly sugary drinks. I also had a mixed fruit juice with pineapple and grapefruit juice, it was just what it sounds like!

Fantastic, strong coffee and holy-crap-that’s-fresh juice served by a crazy old hippie. Portland, in a nutshell.

This place is decent. It’s location is the key because of the Sunday brunch crowd in this cart pod on Mississippi. But I don’t love it… and if it had any competition it probably wouldn’t do as well.

I enjoy the fresh juice combinations. The guy that runs it is really nice.

straight forward juicy goodness. There is not a combination they squeeze that will steer you wrong, and you get a free cup of coffee with your juice. It was a bit pricey($ 4 to $ 6), but delish, healthy and worth it. Plus it will make you feel less guilty about the big greasy egg sandwich you know you are going to eat wtih that wonderful cup of juice.

I took the advice of the cart operators and ordered a small(12 oz) Portland Sunshine($ 3.75): basically a fresh juice blend of apples, oranges, strawberries, and ginger. The juice was refreshing. I really liked the bite the ginger provided, a little surprise jab to the palate that did not overwhelm the other ingredients. Great service and friendly cart operators, but not sure if I’d pay close to $ 4 all the time for a 12 oz. drink. One of their other popular juices is the Blue Moonshine(pear, apple, pineapple, and blueberry). Dogfeathers runs seasonal specials as well. In the fall, one of their specials is the Oggy Doggy(peach, apple, and strawberry). I’m certainly interested to see what their future specials are like. Dogfeathers probably made a nice profit during the summer selling juice on those hot days. Now that the weather has cooled down, juice sales may not be as high, but perhaps their coffee/espresso will start taking off. I don’t mind seeing more of these coffee/juice carts in Portland. It’s something that’s easy, quick to make, and very portable for the customer on the go.

A great cup of coffee at a price I can live with paying. I can’t believe all the idiots that still go to starbuckles for horrible, burnt, overpriced coffee. The fresh juice combinations look out of this world and I can’t wait to visit more to get my coffee fix and quench my cravings for fresh juice.

Just tried this cart for the first time. I’ve seen the sign while walking down Mississippi and after getting tired of paying $ 2+ for a quick cup of coffee I thought I should give them a shot. $ 1 for a good cup and the juice menu will bring me back. Glad I stopped by.

Not so good latte, and they aren’t open early. Weak.

I like the wide selection of drinks. I can vouch for the yummy goodness that is the Mocha with soy milk. I like that he offers rice milk too. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but I’m cheap so don’t listen to me.

This cart in the Mississippi street pod offers friendly service, with their fresh, organic juices and coffee. I had the«Wet Dog» juice combo with was a fresh mix of carrot-apple-ginger. The flavor was vibrant and refreshing.

Are you kidding me? Ian(the owner) brings his«A» Game every day(except Mondays and Tuesdays, of course). He’s there at 6:30 every AM and has friendly chatter, good coffee and great juice for the masses. The coffee’s cheap, the conversation is free and the juicer lends a comforting backdrop of… ummm…well, whatever sound that juicer is making, it’s a comforting backdrop, dammit! Dogfeather’s was the first cart in this pod and the place has blown up. What is little known is that Dogfeather’s was also the first cart at the 12th& Hawthorne«Cartopia» before the owner of Tiny’s went to war over the prospect of a little competition. Rumor has it that Dogfeather’s may be looking at expansion… but rumors are less substantial than a fart in the wind… Nice to see one of the good guys find a home…

This cart makes the whole Mississippi Marketplace pod tolerable during the cold weather months, of which Oregon has many. Super friendly service with both a smile, and if you have time, a story or two, inexpensive pours, and organic coffee. That’s all you really need to know. Oh — except I would add that their coffee goes particularly well with the Amy Winehouse cupcake over at The Sugar Cube.

When I grew up in Florida, we picked fresh grapefruit right off the tree in our yard. And if we ran out of milk for our cereal, it would not be considered unusual for my dad to tell us to just use O.J. instead(a practice that is always a terrible decision once executed). And when in college my friend Angela and I went through a bizarre and awesome gin and juice phase with our drinking. I would often stock up on O.J. and gin. Ya know. The essentials. Today I am likely to walk, run, saunter and even crawl down the street just to get to this cart whenever I possibly can. Of all the amazing carts in the Mississippi Marketplace(and there are many), this is my favorite one. Here, a nice man who resembles Willie Nelson, plays music out of an old boom box radio while making you fresh juice and organic coffee. He loves it. Ask him. With a smile and and an excited voice he will tell you about how he has made juice for 15 years, and how he doesn’t know what else he loves to do more. I look at some of the pics of his golden retriever pasted to the window and order a Mississippi Moonshine(oranges, pineapples, ginger, pear) with blueberries. YESPLEASE. «ALLL-Right! good one!» he shouts back. And then he gets to work. In the back of the cart without breaking a sweat, he blends whole fresh chucks of fruit in a processor right before me like a man on a mission. A mission for awesome. I listen to the CCR song playing, and think about my old grapefruit tree back in Florida and how good it feels to pick fresh fruit and hold it in your hand. He adds HUGE pieces of pear and some large knotty ginger pieces, newly sliced. I won’t lie… I couldn’t help but salivate a little. I need that. First off. The juice is like gold. It is chock full of blueberries. The ginger is spicy and mixed with the sweet spanking of pear it is just damn good. When I drink it, I am on a quest for every drop, to the point where I am willing to risk cutting my tongue on the lid without shame. The Carrot juice is thick and hearty. And the Portland Sunshine is just what the doc ordered if you are feeling sicky. But for whatever reason, I always go back to The Mississippi Moonshine. The coffee is also surprisingly good. And guess what? It’s ONLY A DOLLAR. That’s right. UNO. huzzah. I order something from here while I wait for breakfast at The Big Egg. Because ya know what makes a bad-ass egg sandwich that much better? It’s juice. THIS juice. Just don’t put it on your cornflakes.

The Mississippi Marketplace is quickly filling up with carts opening their doors during the early hours, including this cart with organic coffee from Schondecken. I’ve always wondered how this food cart pod would fair away from the business crowd, but being open at 6:00 am on weekdays is one way to get the attention of the neighborhood. $ 1.50 coffee early in the morning on that side of town. As simple as that.
