This restaurant is probably best known for their elephant greeter in front of their building. I have used that elephant, when giving directions to people, many times over the years. You can’t help but to smile, when you see this cheerful guy. What you may not know, is that they offer an extensive gluten free breakfast menu. So many people that I know, complain that they have a hard time finding something gluten free, when eating out. Here, there is a whole page of yummy options. If you’re a hash lover like me and my husband, I think that you’ll like Eggs Up’s version. It’s a great chop size, not mushy like some. Be sure to ask for the homemade, because they do offer canned as well. My husband had the Irish Benedict, I ordered the homemade hash & eggs and the little guy had a pancake. The meals came out quick and hot. The hash was spot on and my poached eggs were perfectly cooked. The Benedict came out perfect and was consumed quickly. My son enjoyed his pancake. My husband did mention that it was a little chewy.

My 2nd time at Eggs Up and I will not go back. We loved it the first time a couple of weeks ago. Today I ordered steak and eggs and a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits and gravy were terrible and the steak was over cooked. Everything else was as good as the first visit. I asked the waitress to take the biscuits and gravy back and take it off the bill which she did. Here is what really bothered me. When looking at the check the steak and eggs were $ 3 dollars more than what the menu said and there were other items with higher prices than what the menu showed. When I questioned the waitress she said the owner told her she had to charge these higher prices. I said the menu had a different price and she shrugged it off and didn’t address my concerns at all. It was only a few dollars for me, but if Eggs up are doing that to 20 or 30 people a day that is a lot of money. My 2nd time at Eggs Up and I will not go back. So I’m a regular here. I’m pretty sure I’ve gone over food and service and atmosphere before, & it’s all good things. Cute little small town diner. Home fries are my favorite food item here, coffee is always refilled even though it is SLAMMED here on Sunday’s when I come. I wanted to update my review because Eggs Up just got new wait staff. Love them! We got Katie. She’s nice & efficient and kept her head on and gave us good service on the busiest Sunday I have ever seen here. Thankyou Kaite!

There are not many places in the area to get a decent breakfast… especially gluten free! It is a small place and can sometimes get crowded and busy but if you’re not in a hurry, this isn’t a huge issue. Friendly servers!

My wife and I come here often. The place is small. It’s family owned and fits Portland well. I’ve never left hungry. They have good specials and are fast to get the food out. The coffee is also fresh. The southern eggs Benedict are great.

We stopped on a Sunday morning. We must have passed this little place over 1,000 times over the years, but it’s out of our way. The place is small. You can sit anywhere there is a clean table if there isn’t a wait. The menus on the table are sticky with syrup. The special menu was on the table as well. The waitress came and took our coffee order and sad she would come right back to take our order. The cups are clever, some about«a crack.» This part really annoys me. If you have a special menu and you are out of something, say so when you get to the table. Don’t wait for the customer to decide on a special only to find out that it’s not available. He ordered the homemade hash, I ordered the Italian omlette. Then the waitress tells us that they are out of homemade hash but, «would you like the canned hash?» If we wanted canned hash, we could have stayed home. Seriously. Two Italian omlettes later, it was ok. Nothing special. It really lacked the sun dried tomatoes that were advertised. And the ones that actually made it to the omlette were rather tasteless. Potatoes were average… nothing special. Coffee was refilled and we were done. Here is why the 1 rating. We were at the register waiting for the waitress behind us to finish taking an order from a new group who had just come in. The man asks about the hash. The waitress yelled into the kitchen and the chef told her that there was one more order left. Ok so why didn’t our waitress ask the chef when we ordered… lazy? bad customer service? Saving it for a regular? Whatever the reason, it’s just not good business. Needless to say, the tip was altered and we left. I said something to the waitress when we paid after she took the mans order… she shrugged. Nice service right? I will keep on driving by. It wasn’t what we thought it might be.

An unassuming small diner, Eggs Up in Portland appears to be a local favorite. The staff is very friendly. The food is freshly prepared and served quickly. My husband enjoys the homemade hash(Fridays thru Sundays) and homemade sausage gravy. Local, comfortable and easy going.

My family and I come here all the time. The weekend specials are one of a kind. Between the homemade corned beef hash and the assortment of french toast, omelets and pancakes I sometimes have a hard time making up my mind. I like being able to sit where I want, whether it’s at the counter or at one of the tables, I know the service will always be great. Between the pictures on the walls, the creative shirts and coffee cups and the big gumball machine, there is always something to look at and talk about. The elephant outside is a fun touch as well! Whenever I want a fantastic breakfast, Eggs Up is always my number 1.

Went here yesterday it is a small place. I’d you have more than four people seating may be an issue. When I was there a few folks were having cross table conversations after they were done which normally I would never comment on but since we had to wait longer I am. The food is just average. It came out quickly and correct. The extra $ 1.50 charge to use a card was annoying. You won’t see three sign until you’re at the register.

I don’t have a lot to say about Eggs Up Grill… other than it was… fine. This place has been on our to do list for a while, since we live in Middletown and it’s not too far away in Portland. I’ve never understood the bizarre elephant out front, and the odd placement directly across from what looks like Bates Motel can scare you away a little bit too. But when a friend of my husband’s was raving about the pumpkin French toast on Facebook, we knew we had to try it. We walked in and it was several minutes before anyone spoke to us. It’s not clear what you should do upon entering. There is really nowhere to stand, but all of the empty tables had not yet been cleared. Do I sit at a table full of plates? Do I stand awkwardly in the entryway, blocking the servers from passing by? We chose the latter and it was almost humorous how long we were ignored, seeing as we were totally and completely in everyone’s way. Finally a server told us to «sit wherever» and we ended up sitting at a dirty table. After a few minutes, I found myself flicking the prior party’s old home fries off the table myself, as I couldn’t take sitting there staring at them, wondering if I’d stick my arm in it. Finally someone came over and wiped down the table and offered us drinks. The menus are on the table, so they’re nice and sticky! We both opted for specials, I got the pumpkin bread french toast stuffed with pumpkin cream cheese(noted as delicious!!! on the menu) served with cinnamon sugar butter and choice of bacon or sausage for $ 8.95. My husband got the«egg-ceptional benedict» with Canadian bacon, spinach and feta served on an english muffin and topped with hollandaise, served with home fries for $ 7.95. The drinks arrived quickly, as did the food. I was given a refill on my water but my husband never got a refill on his coffee. A woman at the table behind us stood up and actually yelled for a waitress in order to get her coffee refilled, and even then, they didn’t offer it to other tables in the area. The food was fine. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t awful. The corned beef hash — homemade available only on the weekends — was odd. It had peppers in it and I’m a purist. I don’t want to taste red roasted peppers, I like it to be corned beef and potatoes and maybe some onion and seasoning. The peppers were overwhelming. My husband liked it, but I just didn’t think it was a classic corned beef hash. The eggs benedict were good — lacking seasoning, but that was fixed with some salt. The feta was an odd flavor combination, didn’t really complement the hollandaise well… but luckily, there wasn’t that much there. The pumpkin bread french toast was not the hit I wanted it to be. It’s what drew us in there and it was mediocre. It was mushy, like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. The bacon(which I requested extra crispy) was chewy, like it had been cooked earlier and then heated in the microwave. I ate my meal, but I didn’t love it. And I wanted to love it! The prices aren’t cheap and they’ll charge you $ 1.50 to use your credit card. If I’m spending $ 25 on breakfast, I want to be able to charge it. Set a minimum so that the folks buying the 2 eggs and toast for $ 4 have to pay cash… but don’t force me to bring cash or pay a premium when I’m spending so much. It’s not cute or charming when restaurants are not credit card friendly these days. When I look at it all in totality, it’s unlikely we’ll be back. I guess if you have the misfortune of staying at the Riverdale Motel in Portland, Eggs Up Grill would make for a convenient breakfast.

My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday. I wanted to try the gluten free menu and had the raspberry/strawberry pancakes with bacon, it was done perfectly and tasted great. It can be difficult to find gluten free options and hats off to Eggs Up for having great gluten free food!

My husband and I walked out of this diner after we arrived. It was relatively busy and we seated ourselves at a small table after asking one of the wait staff if it was alright. A couple was just leaving the table. The table was yet to be cleaned and we waited. Another group that came in before us had their table cleaned right away and were helped. The same for a family that came after us. Finally we just left. We were the only party in the restaurant that was not all white. We were very disappointed by the service and will not be going back.

Food is great and so is the atmosphere. Its crowded on weekends, but it tells you a lot about the popularity of the place. I love the french toast with strawberries on them. Delicious! Whenever I’m in the area, I keep coming back. Love it! I strongly recommend Eggs Up for anyone who wants a great meal at a great price!

I love this place. I’m gluten-free and love that there’s a neighborhood breakfast place I can eat at and not spend a fortune. French toast is great, love the egg and cheese sandwiches. Get the home made corned beef hash if they have it. Service is quick too.

Eggs Up is a good place for a quick breakfast. I’ve eaten here 2, maybe 3 times. My food has always been good, my friend had GREAT banana pancakes. I’ve also had their french toast w. fruit that I liked, but last visit I had an omlet that was kind of meh. It’s not my favorite breakfast spot, but there seems to be a pretty good regular crowd and that usually says something about a place.

Eggs Up is your genuine mom and pop diner out in the middle of nowhere. What’s awesome about this place is their rather extensive gluten free menu(the owner has Celiac), featuring pancakes, french toast and more. I can’t speak to the rest of the food because I had the gf french toast, but I thought it was tasty, albeit dry. I took fault with a couple of things, one was the orange juice, it wasn’t fresh squeezed or even tropicana. The«gluten free» maple syrup was more high fructose corn syrup than actual maple. This place is obviously a mainstay for the locals and the older crowd, but it is worth stopping in if you’re passing through town, especially for the gluten free eaters out there.

A small unassuming breakfast place with great food and great service! It’s tiny — maybe 15 tables inside, the waitresses were SUPER friendly(even if the locals did seem a little suspicious of the«outsiders» infringing on their breakfast place). Try their homemade hash, it’s AWESOME. And I thoroughly enjoyed my biscuits with sausage gravy. I LOVED that they served Sweet Tea as well. :) (PS — cash only business, no credit cards accepted!)
