Fabu Salon & Day Spa

It was not warm and welcoming when I first walked in the salon, in fact I felt like I was burdening the staff by being there. I went to get my hair colored, a young girl brought me via elevator to the top floor to do my hair color. I sat in a seat overlooking casco bay, which would’ve been a nice view, but it was a rainy day and I froze my butt off in there. After my hair color was put on the stylist left and I was up there with no one else, completely bored looking at magazines that I already read 4 months ago. Completely bored!!! No music. I couldn’t wait for my color to be washed out and go home!!! So after my color was washed out my hair was blown dry. When my hair was dried I was again let down with the color job done. My hair was a dark blonde before and I wanted to go a warm chocolate brown color. My hair color was something I could have done out of a box from the local drug store and had a green tint. I didn’t say anything to the girl doing my hair because I just wanted to get out of there!!! Then I went and paid for my hair color, which was wayyyyyyyy over priced!!! So dissapointed! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone for hair color! I hear they do a good job nail though, so stick with that!

Went there today for a manicure. The view is great but the manicure was mediocre at best. The manicurist didn’t seem to have much experience and it seemed as if I was her first client.

used to love this place. they made the wrong day appt for me after i went in as i am deaf. did not want to muck it up!!! they took me ½ hour later (530) but no other services where available, as my appt threw him off. whatever, will find someone else as the manicure this time was horrible and rushed. done by someone who does not care, pretty obviously…

Great for groups and love getting gel nails!

Girl at the front desk definitely rude and unprofessional. I wouldn’t go back just based on her employment there… But it gets worse! Went with a friend and had a double facial– which wasn’t bad but nothing special, and then the rude girl behind the counter was her massage therapist! She said it was the worst massage she ever had. Totally rough and un-​nurturing. My massage therapist put on a fake smile but it all seemed like an act and the massage was just bizarre. The only positive part was the manicures– I had a wonderful girl who took her time and was so sweet and genuine. I noticed my massage therapist giving a pedicure at the same time and my friends facial-​ist giving another manicure. I’m pretty sure everyone who works there does everything meaning they aren’t all that great at one thing and doubt they are trained. Prices comparable to other spas, but not the service!

My fiancé and I were in Portland for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and thought it would be nice to treat ourselves to pedicures. We did a bit of research of local places and Fabu seemed to have the best prices for what they were offering, so we made our appts and headed over!
The experience was nice, but overall, I was a bit underwhelmed. I mean, someone giving you a foot/​leg massage and having your feet soak in nice water is always going to be awesome, but for what I paid, I don’t really think I got enough. The woman who did my pedicure was friendly enough, though I found her a touch condescending. After one look at me, she asked, «first pedi?!» I don’t know why, but that sort of put me off a bit. I’m not super feminine, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t ever partake in things such as getting pedicures.
Anyway, other than that, she was very friendly and smiley. But, as I read in another review of this place, it was just lacking that something extra. I had a relaxing hour or so and now have some pretty green polish on my toes, but I sort of wish I had tried one of the other spas in Portland. C’est la vie!

Walked in with a friend and her teenage daughter and they kindly squeezed us in for pedicures and I had a head and scalp massage.
The massage was fairly gentle but who doesn’t like their head/​scalp being rubbed :) and I actually fell asleep.
Pedicures were good and I felt like the place was very clean. I’ll be back again. Fairly pricey but you’re right on the harbor in Portland (allow a little extra time for parking, not that much street parking/​very busy)
Everyone who treated me/​I talked to was extremely friendly and helpful.

Wonderful, relaxing, and «fabu-​ous!» I took my Mother here for a birthday present when we were on vacation in Portland. I booked us for facials, massages, manis and pedis. All the services were fantastic and my Mom even said it was the most relaxing facial she’d ever had. For me, it was probably the best massage I’d received (and I’m not exactly a novice). The pedis and manis (we got the champagne-​rose) were luxurious and lovely. I hope to come to Portland on vacation again and if so, you can bet this will be on my list of must-​dos. I really can’t say enough about how well-​trained and lovely the staff at Fabu is and how great our experience was. For the rest of vacation, when something was excellent, my Mom and I called it «fabu-​ous.» ‘Nough said.

After going through botched surgery and the stress of losing my Dad, I noticed that my hair was falling out by the handful. A friend who used to be a stylist recommended that I get a scalp massage and deep-​conditioning treatment. I called Fabu and scheduled both and a hair trim. The receptionist was really helpful at working it into my schedule and getting them all done back-​to-​back. All three treatments were absolutely fantastic, bringing me to a new level of relaxation at each step. As soon as I was finished with one treatment, the next person was waiting with a bottle of water to bring me to the next. I felt positively spoiled and truly relaxed for the first time in – no exaggeration – seven years. The spa is beautiful and kept sanitary to my OCD expectations. The views are astonishing and everyone working there treated me like I was the only person that mattered. I never felt like they were in a hurry to get to the next clients. Fabu is genius. It is a spa the way a spa should be.

I went here with a girlfriend for a body scrub. I didn’t find the experience enjoyable at all. While the room was cozy, the bed was warm and the staff was friendly the overall experience was just missing that extra something. I really feel that for the price more of a service should have been provided. During the time that you are wrapped up, while it was cozy and relaxing a head massage would have been divine. I really hated the fact that I was picking scrub off of myself well after I left the treatment. It would have been wonderful if they had shower facilities so one could really freshen up after the treatment.

Went here for a bridal party nail thing. They are very attentive and did a great job on the nails. It was an amazing place to be pampered and we were the only ones in there bc I’m pretty sure they block it off for you. The only draw back is how expensive it is! 75 all together for my pedicure. I will say my Fiancé (not my wedding party I was just included =)) was not too happy but I mean the scrub they do on your legs are to.die.for. Champagne and rose is what I got. Soooo nice. I would go there again for a special occasion for sure!

I have been here twice now. The first time was to get my nails done for my wedding and it was great and special. Second time was just for a relaxing afternoon and again, it was great. I love how it sits right on the wharf and the fact that both ladies who did my nails each time were practicing artists which made my french manicure flawless and effortless for them. Service was always with a smile and even fit me in for a quick eyebrow wax last minute when they were busy. I’ll be back, to me it’s worth the bigger price tag.
