This cart embodies the Portland Food Cart spirit, for sure. A commitment to a certain type of food, which is fresh, interesting, healthy, and happens to also be vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free, for those with allergies or on special diets. In other words, it’s good,(mostly) raw food done up right with nothing hidden added. The cart itself is adorable, too. I’ve sampled at least 8 – 9 items from this cart, including catering for my office and a large(500+ person) event through my company’s non-profit. They introduced a kind of food and cooking to a large audience previously unfamiliar with the goods they sling over at Heart Cart(vegan), and it was a big hit. My favorite regular menu item is the Jungle Bowl, a rice pilaf with sweet potatoes and kale with marinated mushrooms, pineapple, baby bok choy, and cucumber, topped with their super awesome jungle sauce and almonds. Mmm. The Specials are where it’s at, though, especially anything involving artichoke. For the big work event, they grilled up amazing kebabs with purple potatoes that were to die for. Best wishes to these folks, and I look forward to going back soon.

Great place for a healthy meal when you are in the mood for sparing an animal’s life. I recommend the fruit kabobs with chocolate coconut sauce for a cool treat on a hot day!

No protein — really!?! Vegetables are all well and good, but without something to stick to your ribs you’ll just be hungry again in an hour(if not before). I appreciate that everything is gluten free — but they do such a good job avoiding anything people don’t eat(meat, dairy, soy, gluten) I’m afraid it doesn’t leave much. When I stopped by heart cart all there was to choose from was a mixed grill(all veggies), a salad, or grilled artichoke or corn. I think the salad could come with half an avocado, but other than that there was no fat or protein anywhere to be found. The grilled artichoke was cold, hard, chewy, and the sauce(curry) tasted weird and unappetizing.
I’ve had healthy, hearty vegan fare — but definitely not here!

What a delightful little place. I was bike riding in Portland yesterday and found this cart using my Unilocal app. I saw that they have a Unilocal offer for a complimentary flavored water, so I decided to have lunch there. I must say that I was impressed with my healthy dish. I ordered the Rawsabi Wrap, and Fruit Kebob with a spicy chocolate dip. Totally delish! :-) Definitely a great place to check out especially if you are a vegan. This humble little cart is unpretentious and serves good value veggie dishes. Try it!

A friend recommended this vegan food truck after seeing it on Unilocal,so we went around the city looking for it, passing many food trucks on the way. The Sweetie taco was really good(sweet potato tacos with handmade tortillas, cinnamon black beans and corn, apple garlic salsa and cilantro), especially with the lemon-ginger infused tea. However, the Zing roll(rice wrapped spring rolls with raw filling: ginger kale, house pickled vegetables, bean sprouts and mushrooms) was really odd, especially since the kale was uncooked. They had a vegan chili soup that was really spicy … much spicier than expected. I’m not huge on spicy food, and was not able to eat more than a few bites. It was a little disappointing. The meal was rounded off with a cup of fruit-infused water. The flavor combinations(which I believe change from day to day) were interesting, but very good. I would give them 3 stars, but I’ll bump it up because they were super nice and friendly, especially answering all our questions about the food, the cooking, etc.

This was exactly what I needed before ingesting beer and watching England be awful yet again in a major tournament. I was here not too long after they opened on a sunday morning. There were only a couple of people already eating, so I was able to get my food pretty fast. I liked the looks of the andean hash and I also made sure to use my check-in coupon as well for some of the fruit-infused water. I ordered a full bowl of the hash. It was a lot of food. Actually, it was more than I expected, which is totally fine but it did catch me slightly off guard. Mind you, as big as it was, it didn’t stop me from scarfing it down real fast. There was a great layer of quinoa at the bottom with lots of veggies on top and some sort of spicy sauce that I was doing my best to mop up. I also got the Mango-Mint water. This was nice and refreshing. The fruit definitely showed through and was a great way to set me on my way for the day. My only slight issue with heart cart is the small hours. You do have to time it right as they are only open from 11am-2pm, but if you are around them and they’re open, they’re well worth a go for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike because it was damn good.

I am not a vegan by any means and you don’t have to be to enjoy the food from this cart! Its amazing, hands down the best cart food you can get in Portland. No BS fried tofu junk this place serves a real solid meal with amazing flavor combinations. I never expected vegan food to be this good. Forget that its vegan and gluten free, just go for the excellent food.

Super tasty healthy stuff served up by some nice ladies! I really like the creative combos they come up with that seem to always work. Like the black bean, sweet potato taco with almonds & apples. On paper maybe seems a little odd but in reality is awesome! They generously offer up samples & feature local, organic stuff. A nice break from the regular fake-meat vegan carts! Would like to see a little more protein in their foods. When I spend $ 8 on a cart lunch, I don’t want to be starving in 2 hours. But overall, a great experience!

I’m not a vegetarian or vegan but my girl is. We went there this weekend and it was good food for coming from a street cart. It’s not louder with grease. I will be computerng back there for more.

Yay for Groupon, because without one I may not have tried the Heart Cart. The quinoa and black bean cakes were divine, and the breakfast nachos were flavorful with just a little heat. Also, the sweet ladies at THC let my dog hang out under the cart, even going out of their way to give him water. So, on behalf of Angus, five stars for the Heart Cart.

I just finished the best vegan breakfast ever! I had a half order of the Andean Hash(sweet potatoes among other vegetables with a savory dark chocolate sauce) and a half order of the Quinoa Cakes(quinoa cakes served with peppers and some yummy sauce and black beans). The entire meal was delightful! And vegan and gluten free! I can’t wait to go back! Their entire menu sounds yummy, diverse, and interesting.

If you’re looking for good vegan, gluten free fare that is amazingly delicious look no further. I had the zing rolls which are like a vietnamese/thai spring roll in rice paper and the sweet potato tacos. Can’t wait to check out brunch and the portobella masala [sp] — they were all out but it sounded YUM and after having the rolls and tacos I know it will be. Oh and the food is very filling and the chef is cool. She happened to be making the sign for the weekend brunch menu when I came by. Food was so good, that I immediately went on after and bought the amazing deal Groupon posted — which is what made me check them out in the first place! Plus in addition to great food? They serve brunch on the weekends and are very conveniently located to the Oak and First Max stop. Only problem? They close at 3p through the week so my husband won’t be able to get it fresh — no worries, I saved him some of my lunch ;)

I normally try to eat someplace twice before posting a review but wanted to get the word out on this new cart. I’ll go back soon and update this. The jambala was good but lacked something«meaty» imho(legumes?) Realize the cart is vegan and gf, but man some glazed caramlized tempeh would have really rounded it out!
