Costumer service was good, Travis has talent and knows what he is doing, that’s for sure. But the price ranges have sky rocketed to the point of no return. Which is exactly what I’ll be doing, not returning. If I want a haircut for half of $ 100 bucks, I’ll travel to NYC. Very disappointing. I would announce when price ranges go up or have them clearly listed for clients to see. Not everyone has money trees in their back yard.

Travis at j-Henry is great. I’ve been twice and will go back. He took the time to get to know my hair and when I went back a second time took my feedback and worked with it. The cuts are very reasonably priced the staff are friendly, the place is clean, and it’s easy to make an appointment. Parking is the only downside, so give yourself extra time of driving.

I love my treatments at J Henry. I have Katie and Travis work on my hair. They both know exactly what I want– sometimes when even I don’t! I feel like they have worked out the kinks mentioned in previous reviews, and they’ve always been super friendly to me! Yes, it’s expensive– but what the hell, you’re in the Old Port, of course it is! They always get me in at a convenient time too! And, points to them for having the most beautifully designed interior of any salon in Portland. It’s truly an experience when you go there.

I absolutely loved Meghan as my stylist! It has been hard for me to find a hair dresser that would listen to me, and be fun to talk to. I also love that she was not one of the those hair dressers that would talk over you to another person. She did great things for my hair Meghan the person at this salon deserves 5 stars. The reason for the three stars is this: 1. The prices here are expensive and after cheating on Meghan and going somewhere else(because they couldn’t get me in). I found a place where the hair color lasts longer and cheaper. But since I loved Meghan I decided to call and try to get in to see her and I learned that they are now switching to a «specialized service». 2. Where one person does your color and another does your style and cut. I have been to salons that do this and I feel like I am in a factory and where you don’t get personal service. I absolutely hate this! So because of this I will not be going back to J. Henry which makes me sad because I love Meghan! 3. Cindy the person who answers the phone I can never communicate what I want with her. She schedules me and the last two times I’ve had appointments she has called me back and said that just won’t work can we reschedule. I don’t know if it is her or the stylist but WTH! 4. I wish to God there was a hair salon open on Monday! I own my own business and getting in to this place is a nightmare where I have to cut my hours at my business in order to get in. I feel bad leaving Meghan but this salon just doesn’t work for me anymore. If your looking for a stylist to just do a cut and style she is your girl!

Meghan recently gave me a very lovely haircut. she really listened to my priorities and explained her own motives. i had a great experience, which is tough to do with my medium-short hair. do the staff try to sell products? definitely. are many of the services very expensive? yes. so go in knowing what you’re willing to spend and maintain your boundaries. i did that and spent about $ 50, then tip. i’m very pleased~

Terrible Experience I went in for highlights and now my hair is breaking off and feels like straw. I told Adam I was willing to go slowly with the highlights and he said I needed a full highlight. I went to other Salons for consultations and they all said they would only do a partial on my hair because that would be more gentle on my hair. I should have went to one of the other Salons. Called and spoke to Cindy to get my money back and she was not very nice. I feel I should receive a refund for this horrible experience. Worst Salon I have ever went to in Portland

My stylist did an excellent job, but unfortunately, management can’t get it together. To make a long story short, I was over charged, so Jaison gave me $ 40 in salon credit. I returned to the salon and mentioned the credit, but was never given it — only $ 25 in referral credits(after I reminded him that it existed). Disappointed in the disorganization. I will not be returning.

Dustin daws gets all magical on your hair. I really only go in for a guys cut but I always have a beer — get a wash — and a great cut.

I started going to this salon under the previous owners, as my employer had a trade with them. Under new ownership for the past couple of years the agreement continued and the service got better & better. I saw a huge difference once the salon become J. Henry. The color, styles and attention to detail have been great. I am not longer at the place of employment where there was a trade. Yet I continue to go back and refuse to go elsewhere. What I love about this place is that besides the great hair, the people running the salon could NOT be nicer.

I went to J Henry’s after receiving services from MANY other salons in Portland(Head Games, Akari, Satori, Dathan Hunter… the list goes on and on), hoping that I finally found a salon in Maine I could stick with. Unfortunately the search continues… I received a haircut and partial highlight. The cut looks pretty good, the highlights were almost not existent. None of my family or friends could even tell I got my hair done and to add insult to injury they charged me $ 170(plus tip)!! I definitely do NOT look like I spent $ 200 on my hair. Ridiculous amount of money for the service that I received. I should have known better and left when I realized that it was essentially Cherry Pie, just with a new name and slightly different look. Very disappointed.
