Today, March 29, many of Portland’s best restaurants will be participating in a project to support Mercy Corp by donating a percentage of their proceeds to aid Japan after the devastating earthquake & tsunami. This may seem like a tough time — it’s tax time, the economy is still in the toilet, & most of us don’t have a lot of ‘extra’. Consider the folks in Japan — they have a whole lot less & the situation is becoming increasingly dire. Recently I heard from several friends in the San Francisco/Bay Area who participated in a ‘Bake Sale for Japan’ with many bakeries, restaurants, & bars joining forces. In one day they were able to generate enough $$ to donate $ 23,000.00 ! It’s time to help one another out. So, if you’re on a budget & have not been going out, please think about today or tonight as a grand reason to splurge. Or, if you don’t go out, but stop each morning for coffee, consider making coffee at home this week & using the money to get a beer & a sandwich. It doesn’t have to cost a lot, but everything helps. Thanks! Most importantly, I’d like to say an enormous THANKYOU to all the Portland places who are involved with this. What a great outpouring of compassion for our neighbors in this small & fragile world! PS Cocktails count! Just went to Bunk Bar & they are participating!
