How can I possibly trust a news station who uses misleading headlines like «Man With Gun, Dagger Attacks Portland» (about a man who was sitting in his car…) and has multiple typos in every. single. article on their mobile app?
I would be willing to take over the duties and salary and benefits of your news station’s editor in charge of these atrocities.

They go in, do their story, and they sign off. They know a whole sort of people from other stations because they are good friends with one another albeit they are competing for ratings in the like.

I watch the news EVERY day!!! In the mornings I keep it on for background noise as I’m getting ready!
I have always watched the other major network in Portland, mostly because I just leave it on the same channel. Also, their anchor people are more attractive and their lighting is more professional and complimentary. I didn’t really think it mattered what channel I watched. I thought they were reporting the same news!
Boy was I TOTALLY mistaken!!!
I’m a regular Dental Hygienist Volunteer For Medical Teams International. One day I was out volunteering for the local Compassion Clinics. They happen all year long and all over the Metro Area. NEVER once have I seen it reported on the news. This got me thinking about how much negative news is reported and nothing good. It made me really depressed and upset. It made me feel that was all people wanted to hear about because that was all that was being reported!!!
One morning Medical Teams International reported on their Facebook page that the news station KGW would be reporting at their international headquarters. I switched the channel and NEVER looked back!!!
This station is above and beyond FAR more positive and all inclusive in their news reporting!!! There is a LOT of positive stuff happening out there PORTLAND!!!
I’m DEFINITELY needing to drink less by watching this station.
I HIGHLY recommend PORTLAND changes the channel and watches KGW!!!
(maybe their poor anchorpeople will get some decent lighting and makeup people for their newsroom) :D

Here I go again, dating myself and all, but darn it I had to write a review after reading all the others. My family and I have watched KGW since I can remember, and I remember when Tom McCall was on the show, along with Richard Ross, Jack Capell, and so many other great folks, on and on, and let us not forget Heck Harper. Mr. Harper had an afternoon cartoon show on KGW, Cartoon Corral, along with his horse, Jody, and it was a very fun to go on his show. I don’t remember the number of my appearances, but I went for my own birthday, other friends’ birthdays, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and field trips for several years. And how can I forget all the evening news watched with my dad and all the discussions around the kitchen table stemming from that. My review is colored with great affection and memories, so I have no objectivity, just lots of subjectivity (if that is indeed a word).
While the news and other programming over the years has always been excellent, I think KGW’s other great strength is its involvement in the community. I try to support all their sponsored events (Christmas Toy Drive, etc.), but also appreciate their ability to give back, such as Shred Day. I also enjoy their development of newer shows, such as Live at 7 and Straight Talk, and feel that I’m a far hipper and better informed person because of watching those shows (there are so many things I wouldn’t even know about in the tech world if it weren’t for Steph Stricklen and Live at 7).
So whether it’s the memories of such fine broadcasters as Tom McCall and Richard Ross to Anne Curry and Brenda Braxton, and my appreciation of all of KGW’s current staff of news and weather folks, I watch and enjoy all of them and follow them on Twitter. Thanks for being such an enjoyable and continuous part of my life.

They’re in your neighborhood with their cameras, but you don’t see them on the evening news.
You watch the evening news, and you found a segment that’s interesting, so you call up the station, then they tell me to call PROVIDENCE.
They featured this guest in their evening news, and they want me to call Providence?
They didn’t KNOW who it was they have on the night before?
I’ll add a star ONLY because I like Matt Zaffino, the chief Meteorologist.

I am a native Portlander and I used to have a lot more respect for this station. As of late they have move into the fully infotainment industry. They rairly delve into good journalism but prefer to find the story with the most dynamic video or shocking statistic. Murder, rape and kidnapping are not news (contrary to what many beleive). Neither is a five-​car pile up. What is happening in City Hall, our schools, State Politics, transportation, infrastructure, resource conservation, etc. is news. The «newscasters» are not journalists but rather talking heads. They do little if any research and feel that if they can get through droning on whatever flys across the teleprompter without making a mistake they have done their job.
Poor excuse for a news station… unfortunately, KATU, KOIN, and KPDX are not much better. The whole lot has chosen to entertain rather than inform. News casting used to be a public service. not a public circus.

My partner informed me of the devil that is Tracy Berry… but other than her, I like their newscasts… very to the point and informative. My second favorite newsteam behind KATU. Great weather team, especially since the addition of Rod Hill. KATU recently copied KPTV «dirty dining» segments… but oh well… they are always entertaining.

I noticed an ad for a Saturday show that concerns local politics on this channel. Way to go guys! Now, include some of that in your daily newscast and I’ll be delirious with glee (not really, but I’ll be moderately hopeful). Thanks for doing your part to ACTUALLY inform the citizenry.
All told, the news programs on this channel are the best (non PBS) newscasts on TV in Portland (that’s not setting a very high bar, I’m sorry to say, but best-​of-​the worst is a form of best!).

I agree with the previous post about Drew «YELLING». I used to watch this station until he came onboard. He annoys the heck out of me.
At his age, acting immature to be funny just doesn’t cut it any more. Time to grow up, your loosing viewers for your channel. Volume control needs to be turned down when you come on… obviously I wasn’t the only one.

Ok, so I have this thing. An issue, you might say. I HATE the news in Oregon.
I know that everyone has issues and it’s comes down to how you deal with them. So, I’ve decided to face this one head on. I have recently forced myself to watch versions of our local stations’ nightly news. And, um, ya know what came out of it?
I STILL HATE the news.
I know I shouldn’t hate. Its not healthy, I know. Maybe writing it out will help…
News Channel 8. Its kind of the lesser of all evils. They have the most attractive anchors. Attractive if you’re old enough to remember Vietnam and you like your men in 10 year old suits. But they are at least somewhat normal looking. After checking out the kgw website I realized that they have almost 30 anchors. 30! Can anyone tell me why?
That right there is what bothers about this station. Is it really necessary to have a 5, 6 AND 6:30 news show? Especially when each show is filled with the same, overdramatized stories about non-​local events that can be seen on youtube???
And why must their commercials always make it seem like I will get deathly sick or lose a limb if I don’t watch their show tonight? Pretty sure your scare tactics are tactless.
If you’re like me and you absolutely can’t deal with the weeknight news, watch it on the weekends. Its at least tolerable.
