While this is listed and known as a hair salon they do have a gal that comes in on Thursdays & Fridays to do nails(appointments recommended). I recently started working in the building and initially went more out of convenience than anything. However, I found upon scheduling the appointment the prices are much more reasonable than other downtown salons and comparable to other nail salons outside of downtown and was pleasantly surprised with my overall experience. I had a shellac manicure done(list price $ 25). I did not have polish to remove and the no-frills treatment(which I’m fine with) took 45 minutes start to finish, perfect timing during my lunch hour. One item of note– I only gave 4 stars because my polish start chipping after less than a week(where shellac usually doesn’t chip for me until between day 8 – 10). Update– Rating updated from 4 to 2 stars. Why: 2nd shellac had major problems. There were bumps on 2 of my nails that the girl did not bother to fix. I was leaving on a work trip the following evening so I was unable to go back to have one of the nails fix when it started chipping 24 hours after! Shellac is not supposed to do that! I will be seeking out other salons in the area and will not be going back here.

I work in the building and wanted a manicure on my lunch break. At noon I scheduled a manicure for 12:30, and was told they would give me a call when the manicurist was ready. No one ever called. When I called them at ten minutes past my appointment time, the manicurist had not arrived. I ran out of lunch break, and had to cancel. Maybe next time Kim’s! Seems like you need to refine your scheduling process.

I guess a common denominator of whoever does one’s hair is that it is usually someone that one believes does good hair… or one wouldn’t go. Kinda like we all think we’re a good driver, we all think we have a good hair person. The woman(Becky) who does my hair at Kim’s isn’t trendy and she doesn’t kiss my butt at all. She just gives me the haircut I ask for and she does it just right. If I ask for advice, she’ll give it. She never cuts off more than she says. She’s versatile … long, short, weaves, look-of-the-week, men, women, kids, she can do it all. She doesn’t book three people at once and leave us rotating under driers while our colors set. She’s always on time. She gives me books when she’s done with them. She doesn’t complain about everything that’s wrong in the world. If you work downtown, she’s conveniently located in the Wells Fargo building on 5th and Columbia. You do need an appointment. So as much as I hate when people switch their primary photo, because it confuses me and I think I’ve lost my friends(sob), I’m posting my new bangs and purple patch. When Palin is just a distant bad memory, my hair will still be cuter than hers ever was. Thanks, Becky from Kim’s 5th Avenue Hair Design!
