Line-Up Shops

I have several friends who regularly use and recommend these guys so I decided to give it a shot. I had a bent and seized tie-​rod resulting in the toe being out of alignment. I brought in an old spare I had laying around and they agreed to install the part I supplied even though it was clearly a used old part knowing I was comfortable with it, and it was the only part we had at our disposal in a pinch. The tech test drove the truck, then brought it in and checked it out. Turns out the part I brought was also somewhat seized so the tech heated it up and cleaned it and got to operate and installed it. He then adjusted the toe, test drove the truck again, and then went around and inspected everything else and gave me a status report on all the suspension and steering components.
They charged me for the extra time in cleaning and installing the part, the prices were all more than reasonable. Also of note they got me in same day within like 10 minutes of walking in the door — I came in and asked «You aren’t by chance super slow and looking for another alignment today?» He said no but they could get me in tomorrow, as I’m standing there checking my schedule for the next day their next customer canceled so they were able to fit me into his slot immediately. Worked out great.

This is where you go for alignment, period. They do other stuff too, which is awesome, but I generally use my own mechanic for steering and suspension-​related things. But I always take my cars here when alignment is needed.
However sometimes alignment isn’t needed … and when that’s the case, the Line-​Up Shop makes it a painless experience:
Yesterday I called to make an appointment, saying that I have a car that might need alignment. He said, «Ok, what’s the symtom?» (aside: fantastic question, thank you for asking). I said: «excessive tire wear on outer edges of front tires only; wandering slightly on highway.» He said, «Might be alignment but might not — could be something else, but why don’t you bring it in and we’ll have a look.» He then listed four or five available time slots for the next day (today, wow!). I mentioned that it’s a white wagon and he said, «oh… I’m sorry we don’t do those on Tuesdays…» to which I laughed and promised to rattle-​can racing stripes on the thing (more LOL).
Got there today (failed to rattle-​can it but they seemed to forgive me) and after a brief convo with someone at the counter, who explained various possibilities and scenarios very clearly, I decided to wait and walk around the ‘hood until done rather than Tri-​Met my way home. Outside, I watched as a mechanic drove off in my car (another yay for actual test-​drive before in-​shop analysis!). So far, they’re doing everything right.
Half hour later she calls me. Says inner tie-​rod ends are loose and those must be replaced before we can address alignment. This makes total sense to me and isn’t much of a surprise. So now I am able to formulate a plan rather than wonder what is going on up there and worry about my tires: I’ll replace the tie-​rod ends and rotate tires and THEN see if it wants alignment.
Cost: $ 25 for their time in checking it out. That is so very fair and worth it for their honest and knowledgeable assessment. I love the $ 25-​for-​assessment thing they do. I have complete faith in these guys & gals to never try to sell me something I don’t need, or convince me my car is broken when it isn’t.

Desperately needed breaks, and they got me in the next day. Called to let me know I also needed an alignment, but didn’t try to hard sell me on it. Great price, efficient service and friendly people. Can’t ask for more.

This is simple. These guys do great work, it’s very reasonable, they are experts with alignments and balancing, and are extremely professional and HONEST. I have been here three times with three different vehicles and have been happy with each visit. Plus they have a great waiting room across the street at Basecamp Brewing… :-)

A four-​wheel alignment cost me less than half what the dealer was quoting. Not cool, dealers.
Really friendly mechanics and staff. Easy to schedule an appointment. The mechanic let me know about another issue (cracked bushings) and how urgent it would be. Since they found the issue on this visit, they knocked a bit off my future bill for when I come back. Awesome.

Wow, can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet because I have been a fan for a long time. I’ve had them do alignments and suspension work on two different cars. Probably been here 4 or 5 times since I’ve replaced or changed a lot of suspension parts on both vehicles (which generally necessitates getting the alignment at least checked out). They do good work. I would trust them to do suspension, steering, brake and alignment work on pretty much any kind of vehicle. I have seen everything from a Shelby Cobra to an ambulance in here. I recently had them look over my vehicle, after replacing many suspension and steering parts it still wasn’t driving very well so I thought the alignment may be off. They actually found other things that needed fine tuning that I probably wouldn’t have found myself without a ton of trial and error. My truck drives WAY better now. Very satisfied with their attention to detail and quality work.
This is definitely an old school kind of shop, which means they are more focused on their work than marketing or over the top customer service, However, I do feel their prices are very reasonable, and they work quickly. The staff is communicative but pretty businesslike; they have always told me their exact findings and recommended fixes when working on my vehicles, but seem pretty focused on expedience, which is not necessarily a bad thing for most customers. There is not a fancy waiting room or free popcorn, but there are very competent mechanics (there is a waiting room, but it is very tiny and right off the shop floor. Personally I don’t mind, but some might.). It’s true that they aren’t open late, but most shops don’t get right to work on cars brought in late anyway. However, if you drop your vehicle off in the morning and hop a bus to work; chances are unless your car is seriously jacked up, these guys will have it done by lunchtime. They do have a second location out in deep SE Portland that I’ve had a good experience with as well.

Went in having replaced some parts on my front and rear end to get an alignment.
The car was making me nervous driving it at that point.
I took it in at 3:30, left at 4:30. Paid less than I would’ve at firestone, and got way better service. Real mechanics work here. I appreciate good honest local companies. This is one of them.

well i feel like i was ripped off. came out to being about $ 300 for ~1 hour of labor.
they added this and that and this and still it was only 1 hour but got charged $ 300.
i can’t ever forgive them for this especially since i wrote a letter asking for an explanation and never heard a response… so basically take it as is. they’ll fix your car but will likely rip you off pricing wise.

How does any business stay in business if they are only open during the hours most customers work? Close at 5, closed on the weekends? If that doesn’t indicate they don’t care about gaining new potential customers, I don’t know what would. I for one not only CAN’T do business with them, but now I WON’T because they insist on forcing people to take off work just to get service. For me that at least TRIPLES the cost because I would have to take off from my job to meet their business hour demands. Geez, open later and stay open later or at least open on Saturday. Forget you!

Fast, honest, capable, and cheap. I won’t go anywhere else for any alignment-​type work for as long as this shop is around.
My new used car (148,000 miles) was vibrating at speeds over 60mph. I asked my mechanic if they did alignments and he said they just sent all of their cars here (to the 834 Sandy location). So I went here directly. When balancing my wheels they found I had a bent rim. They offered to use the rim off a full sized spare for a $ 20 tire mounting fee but I didn’t have one. So they called a salvage yard for me, got a used rim for $ 80, installed it, and balanced and aligned the wheels. I left paying $ 200.75 the same day. Amazing. For comparison, my mechanic estimated $ 240 (at $ 96/​hour labor) to fix the heater knob on my dashboard. I can only image how much I saved by going here and the car drives smoothly at all speeds now. I’ll be back.

I’ve had two great experiences with this shop. The first time was when I thought my car needed an alignment after having vibration, when it turned out that I had a bent rim. The shop did not charge me anything for diagnosing the problem. The second time I took another car in for installation of aftermarket coilover struts and a custom alignment. They did a great job and even dropped me off at my house and picked me up when the car was done. They are very professional, down-​to-​earth, and friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I’ve been using this location of the Line Up Shop since the late 90’s and have taken everything from my personal vehicles with altered suspensions to my customers cars and I stand behind these guys 100% in their workmanship and quality of service.
If you need an alignment or suspension or steering work there should be no other place you should be going then here! As Andy A. explained in his review, it is exactly like he said a time warp in a good way. Don’t be fooled by their old school equipment, it still works just as good as it was when they first got it. No upsells here, they sell what you need.

These guys are bare bones, old-​school mechanical gurus when it comes to suspension and brakes. They live where the chrome and paint don’t shine – under the car, where the grit hits the road and where your car/​truck either handles great or… not. They see thru the crap and get to the root of a problem without drama or whining. When you want your ride dialed, you see these guys, period. I cant speak to their other location but their garage here is like a time warp, in a good way. Oh and you dont come here for feelgood chit chat; you go here for problems-​solved, and real honest service that’s done right, no questions asked.

My mechanic referred me to this Line-​Up shop for an alignment. Although they have two locations, he said that this was the one he could definitively vouch for to always be honest and do a good job (saying in so many words he had heard mixed reviews about the other location). And since I trust him, this is where I went.
Since I just got the work done I can’t vouch for the quality of the alignment, but it feels like I have a smoother drive. But I am admittedly ignorant about such mechanics so who knows.
What I’m not ignorant about is service, and they did a great job there. They saw me at the scheduled time, gave me a finish time and actually finished up earlier than projected. When I picked up my car the woman working the desk was friendly. The whole experience was pretty hassle-​free.
The only odd thing about this place is that you have to walk through the garage to get to the office. But there’s a big sign that says OFFICE that’s hard to miss, so just walk on back. Still it felt weird like I was walking in an area I shouldn’t be.
