This memorial boat ramp is a city treasure. But that is not in every way, since it is near a bunch of large, unexciting buildings and narrow roads. Still, the view is elegant and the parking is plentiful. This is one of the more boring harbors that I have been to. Although this nears the expensive Salty’s on the Columbia restaurant, the harbor does not offer much, even after checking the web. I had debated whether to go here or to Tom McCall Waterfront Park with a relative in order to see the Christmas Ships, but unfortunately I was right, a neighborhood’s blandness or lack thereof can really affect my enjoyment of the event. It can be cold, even by Pacific Northwest standards. I did enjoy seeing trees and hills on the other side of the river, it reminded me of my boating tour of Seattle, but that is not something difficult to obtain within a fair proximity. The M Jeason Memorial Ramp is best left to those who own their own boat.

Many recent improvements to this boat ramp. This is a pay to park area. There is beach access for swimming and day use beach activities. No kite or drone flying due to it being in the flight path of PDX. Due to the Levy Commission there is no longer parking allowed on Marine Drive or along the airport fence line. It seems to be strictly enforced as I have seen many vehicles with citations on the windshields. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s River Patrol has an office here and the deputies I have encountered have always been friendly and polite. There also seems to be multiple police agencies that patrol this area and it gives me a little peace of mind when I visit during the daylight hours. Bathrooms on site. Multi path for jogging walking biking skating etc close by.
