Definitely one of the best dives in Portland. Great for a blazers game & a few drinks, pool, pinball, great outdoor area etc… food is not one of the selling points

Went here while on a pub crawl. It’s your typical dive bar with pool tables, music, and good deals on drinks. Bonus points for their late night food menu!

In theory, this bar has everything that I love in a laid-back sports bar. Casual patrons, low lighting, heavy emphasis on sports, and easy parking. So what’s the problem? I guess every time I’ve popped in here, it’s either understaffed or the bartenders are extremely slow. I tend bar myself. If it’s busy and you’ve got heavy day drinkers watching Sunday football, wouldn’t you want to put a little hustle in your step? I don’t know. We left after waiting over five minutes, which sounds bitchy, and it probably is. But it wasn’t busy and it’s painful to watch a bartender move at a glacial, leisurely pace. Act like you want to make money.

Dropped in for a Monday Seahawks game. Plenty of seating and nice interior. I would describe this place as a top tier dive. Moderately dark, with americana décor and great happy hour. Something like 2.50 wells and domestics. 50 cent charge for sub-$ 5 credit card transactions. 2 pool tables. Outdoor area for smokers. Definitely be back for beers in a laid back space.

I have been to Maui’s many times, but haven’t reviewed it yet. I was there for a few football games last year. It was super fun and welcoming. In the past couple weeks, I went there twice, and it was some of the best bar service I’ve had in awhile. Shane is awesome, and I was also there on a Friday afternoon. Not sure of the bartender’s name, but she was equally as awesome! Great people. Great patio. I recommend it!

Love this divey hole in the wall. It’s across the street from my office and I’m not going to pretend I don’t take advantage of their 2.50 well happy hour drinks on a regular basis. I can’t tell if it’s good or bad that all the bartenders know what I like to drink… Ps ping pong.

Worst bar food in Portland I’ve come across, yet. But all of the staff were awesome. They have a huge outdoor area, but shitty seating.

We stopped in here to watch a soccer match. Place is dark. Good beer on tap and a few TVs. I believe they have outdoor seating. We’ll have to make another trip back here.

I hate this place. I really want to like it but figure out if your going to be a regular bar or a sports bar. Not both. Bcome here to watch blazers /timbers games but they didnt even play this weeks Timbers game(I understand its blazers playoffs but really). The TV are all around the bar area and nowhere else in the bar making viewing angles super shitty if ur not seated at the bar or pointes to the bar area. Buy some tvs and put them around the full bar if your gonna be a sports bar…

The moment you walk in you smell the smell, unlike any you’ve ever smelled before. I’d say it’s 60% miscellaneous body fluids, 35% pine sol and 5% stale cigarettes. They have cheap drinks plenty of bike parking. Dirt squirrel paradise.

This cavernous bar in a cinderblock building on N. Williams is just divy enough to be a very comfortable, unassuming, and unpretentious niehgborhood bar. Its got around 15 decent drafts, full bar, TV screens for sports watching, various old school pinball machines, and a pair of pool tables. It’s the kind of place you could go to alone and strike up a conversation or play a game of pool and quickly become fast friends with strangers. While it looks like it’s been there forever, Maui’s opened in 2009 at the tail end of the first phase of gentrification of the Boise-Eliot neighborhood(bohemian whites and hipsters slowly displace African Americans from a traditionally African American neighborhood). Given the way the neighborhood is changing, I wonder if Maui’s will survive the second phase of gentrification(German SUV driving DINKs and monied yuppies pushing baby strollers slowy price out the bohemian-hipster colonizers). Anchored by a New Seasons that sells organic produce at far too high a price for the neighborhood’s historical residents, there are four or five huge multi-unit housing complexes going up within 3 blocks of this place that will provide apartments and condos for hundreds of people. At street level there are trendy restaurants, boutiques, and upscale coffee shops and bars. Against this backdrop, Maui’s looks more and more incongruous every day. I hope it doesn’t turn into a bank one day. Oh yeah, one more thing. I haven’t eaten here, but I understand that the food is awful. So I’ve been told, so be forewarned and maybe stick to drinks and play some pool. Or, bring your own food in from someplace else. I understand that this is acceptable practice.

Such a great little dive bar. During the summer the outdoor patio is poppin’! They have ping-pong and lots of little tables(dog friendly, too!). I come here at least once a week with my friend. It’s «date night» as we like to call it. We come for the cheap drinks and sports on tv — not so much her for the sports. They have pool, although I’m more of a dart player, myself. The only thing that is wrong with this place is the food. DONOT order their food. You are allowed to bring in food from New Season’s across the street or wherever, and I recommend you take that route. I got the nachos here once and they were terrible. Everything was clearly squeezed out of a tube or spooned out from a can.

By far the best bar on Williams. It’s divey, yes, but so are most bars on the street. They have pool, pinball, and an excellent outdoor area(closes at 11 unfortunately). I wouldn’t order anything to eat unless you’re real hungry. The kitchen is usually dark and vacant during the week as its up to the bartenders to fry up the tots for you. The happy hour is pretty good. Microbrews for $ 3. After that it’s $ 3.75. The most important factor to me is that it’s the only bar in Portland that plays the Cardinals baseball playoff games by default. At other establishments I have to beg the bartender to put the game on one TV in the back corner, with no sound, no seating meant to view said TV, and only if football isn’t playing that day. Maui’s, I will always love you for playing Cardinals baseball in a city that doesn’t care about baseball!

This bar is amazing! Pool foosball and ping pong. The only thing I have against it is the bartenders are kind of indifferent most of the time, but we’re in Portland so you should, at least a little bit, expect your bartender to assume that you’re a dick and treat you accordingly

If you like a festive crowd to watch Blazers games and swill PBR with, this is as good a place as any. Avoid eating the food here at all costs, it’s all microwaved freezer crap and the staff will tell you the same. I think you can bring your own food though.

My favorite bar on Williams for sure. What’s not to love? They have pool, good tap beer selection, infuse their own spirits, great vibe. It is fairly divey, but not nearly so much as places like Sloan’s down the road Matador on Burnside(RIP). The first several times I went to this place I thought that the outdoor patio was the enclosed row of benches directly out back where everyone smokes. I wasn’t a huge fan because I don’t smoke anymore and it felt like I was locked in the penny slot area of a cheap vegas casino with no way out. Only a few weeks ago I realized that there is an actual«outdoor» part of the patio, which is an extensive area that also has foosball and ping pong tables. It is a super nice patio area, and was not at all crowded when we went. I haven’t tried the food here yet so I can’t speak to the quality of that, but as far as a solid, unpretentious bar goes it is one of the few on Williams that I frequent. Oh, the music they play is always great as well, I don’t think I’ve ever been and not loved what was playing.

There’s three reasons to like this place: they make their own infused spirits; they have a great patio; and when I knocked over my drink, the bartender brought me a new one for free. My only complaint, which is personal taste, they only serve«Sinfire» which is worse than Fireball and way worse than Yukon Jack Wicked Hot AND they don’t chill it. Yuk.

Maui’s is just an awesome bar. It’s not a ‘hipster’ bar because it’s frequented by more types of folks than just ‘hipsters’ and it definitely lacks that artsy feel. It’s not a ‘sports’ bar, although you might find a decent crowd watching a Blazers game. It’s not a ‘dive’ bar because it’s too well kept and its vibe doesn’t ring ‘divey.’ I’d have to say it’s more of a ‘neighborhood’ bar because there are all types of folks in here — servers stopping in on their way home, working class Joes wearing their Carharts and boots, dressed up office folks enjoying a Friday night beverage, an occasional older neighbor, and yes, even a few skinny-jeaned hipsters. The drinks are stiff and the draft beer selection is local, ample, and varied from dark to light. The food is better than average for bar food — no ‘Omigod I gotta have it’ nor is there any ‘Yuck, this is crap.’ The service is good and the barkeeps are friendly and down to earth. More tidbits: I love the lamps. They really add a distinctive feature to the atmosphere. They’ve got a couple of couches and a coffee table near the center of the room, which gives the place a kick back and homey feel. There are some booths for private conversations; high tables for chit-chatty groups, and then there’s the looooooonnnnnggggg bar. A couple of pool tables if you’re so inclined, and a bunch of ping pong tables in the back.

Where has this bar been all my sports-watching life? Seriously. Portland lacks good sports bars. There are a few good ones, but those get crazy packed on Saturdays so you either show up early or don’t bother getting a seat. I had no idea this place existed. It hides over on N. Williams in a little no-name building with no sign out front. I actually discovered it by way of Bartek and some other Unilocalers who rolled in after an Elite Event for some after-party action. I went over to meet them and was surprised to see a chilled out locals bar stocked with a ton of flat screens playing the Blazer game, sound on the stereo(but not so loud you couldn’t hear your friends talk, a friendly bartender and a reasonably-priced pour of Bulleit. Oh, and the tap list? Impressive! From early September through the end of the year, every Saturday is a serious conundrum for me. Where do we go watch the game? Will we have to get there at 10am to get a seat? Will I be able to score a drink? This place seems to be pretty far off the radar, and while I know this review won’t help, I hope it stays that way. It seems like a great place to watch a game.
