Meriwether Lewis Elementary School

Great neighborhood school with a great staff and principal who are 100% invested in the education of all students.

Many of Portland’s Public Schools are phenomenal. Its sad that the media only focuses on the negative, the titillating, and what they deem to be ‘newsworthy’.
I’m happy to report that in this little corner of Portland, there is an Elementary School that is exceptional.
One may think that having two of my children attending this school would make me biased, on the contrary…
I am a critical, opinionated, and often skeptical man (with a good balance of compassion, calm, and reasoning) who not only consistently advocates for my children, but also comes from a family whose livelihood has been education.
The Principal (Tim Lauer) is an administrator who shines. He is fair, balanced (can I write these two words together without getting sued by FOX News? We’ll find out), loved by the kids, respected by the staff, and is a true hero in the neighborhood surrounding the school.
Art, music, & environmental education (complete with a garden) flourish here at Lewis.
The special education team here is staffed by the best folks I could have ever hoped for, led by a teacher that is loved by both his students, as well as the parents.
I am extremely fond of Lewis and am feeling extremely fortunate that my children are being educated in this environment.
