When it comes to medical services, writing a Unilocal review can be kind of tricky. What’s important really depends on the medical service. To some it’s all about the billing. For others, bedside manner. Maybe you’re concerned about the state of the waiting room. For me, most of the time, and especially if they’re putting a knife to me or managing any actual medical treatment, it’s about a couple of things first and foremost — the skill of diagnosis, the quality of treatment, and the thoroughness of communication. If a Dr. can correctly diagnose an issue without too much jostling around, recommend the most effective course of treatment, and then communicate all of that to me succinctly, then I’m stoked. Dr. John Ng did all of these things. And while there are a couple of aspects of my recent experience with his office at OHSU, I believe his services rate a full 5-stars. I recently had a minor surgical procedure on my eye. Not LASIK(I’m 20⁄15 in one eye, and 20⁄20 in the other!) but a small ocularplastic procedure to correct an issue with my caruncle. This is an issue that had been bugging me for years and other Dr’s had simply indicated that I would either have to pay out of pocket to have it fixed(not medically necessary) or that the procedure would be more complicated/invasive than it was worth. But Dr. Ng knew better. He took one look at my eye and said«No problem — we can fix this with an easy op that’s covered by insurance.» His office got the pre-authorization, scheduled me with an appointment, and the Dr. himself performed the procedure. He was very good at explaining what he was doing while doing the procedure(having scissors in your eye is always a bit nerve-wracking). After the procedure, his assistant was quick to answer any questions and provide a couple of follow-up calls to make sure I was healing up right. The healing process went more quickly than predicted and the final outcome is better than I could have hoped. I am very happy with the results and the quality of Dr. Ng’s work. I do feel like when I visit OHSU providers they always seem a little rushed. Dr. Ng less so than others, but it does seem to be a systemic thing at OHSU. Dr. Ng did a good job of answering all my questions, for sure. And when it comes down to it, I don’t care as much in this case about whether or not the Dr. is spending plenty of time with me — as long as he works his tools right and nails the diagnosis. And in this case, he totally did.
