Old House Dahlias

Had a blast at the u-​cut flower field at the south waterfront. Excellent variety of dahlias to take one’s breath away. Great price.

Mark, the Dahlia Guy, has created a beautiful botanical garden filled with these gorgeous flowers on a 5000sf lot in Portland proper. He has an organic landscape and takes pride in his blooming beauties every year. He offers classes to guide you in planting your springtime tubers and how to harvest them in the fall.
During the blooming season (July, August, September, October) Mark has fresh cut flowers for sale and they make an excellent (and very reasonably priced) gift for BBQs, bridal showers, your Mom ;), etc.
I have so many of these beauties already growing in my garden, but every year a tour through his flower rows during Dahlia Fest (in September) ends in more springtime tubers. The only problem I have is coming up with more room to plant them — they are perennials and do really well in our climate. You can feel good knowing that every dollar that you spend at this small local business goes back into the farmer’s pocket!

The first time I drove past Old House Dahlias I was struck by the sheer beauty of every color and size Dahlia you can imagine. Mark is very kind, he told us all about his love for growing the flowers and gave us a lot of background info. The prices are really good considering the flowers are absolutely gorgeous and you are handpicking your array yourself. I can’t wait to go back this season!

I used Old House Dahlias for my August 2009 wedding. Mark was affordable, helpful, and best of all the dahlias were amazing! Definitely better then I expected. Beware though, Mark is not a «florist», be prepared to arrange your own flowers.

Mark was super helpful coordinating flowers for my wedding. Though he’s clearly not your run of the mill wedding florist, he understood what I was looking for right away and got me outstanding blooms — and so many compliments! His «dinner plates» are stunning and unearthly.

Mark runs this amazing little local house-​cum-​dahlia-​farm out on the corner of 80^th and Mill in deep SE. Mark grows amazing dahlia’s of all flavors, from little tiny snowballs, to gigantic dinner plate dahlias. All beautiful and diverse, these show quality dahlias are grown with love. Mark sells bulbs annually and when in bloom, sells pots and blooms from a cooler sitting in his front yard. A hand painted sign displays an advertisement for his annual September dahlia fest, a great local party celebrating this beautiful flower.
The blooms and bulbs are very reasonably priced, and Mark is a great guy to work with. Come and peruse all the different strains and types while they are in bloom, and order the bulbs you like and they will be delivered when he pulls up and splits the bulbs at the end of the growing season.
Stop by any time during the growing season, and check out these amazing flowers. You can get lost for hours in the beauty of the flowerbeds.
