O’Reilly Auto parts

My car stalled coming out of the parking garage at work the other night. After attempting to jump it multiple times and having it stall again, I waited for a tow truck. Of course, a bummer, but these things happen. While we were waiting, we planned to get an alternator the next day, assuming that was the issue. We found the part we needed on the O’Reilly’s website and called to this location in the morning to have them hold it. Although it was pretty far out of the way, I went to go pick it up between jobs. When I got there, the person at the desk didn’t know what I was talking about and went to the back to check. He came out and told me that they had sold the part, even though it was on hold, earlier in the day. I was reasonably ticked off because I really needed my car and didn’t plan on waiting another day for the part, since it was safely on hold for me. To make matters worse, instead of being apologetic, the person at the desk explained that there’s high turnover and no one knows what they are doing, and if it frustrates anyone, it frustrates him. This was not really comforting. He offered that I could go get one in Vancouver, which was not really practical. I ended up having one ordered to the St. John’s location by my house. When I got to the O’Reilly’s on Lombard in St. John’s, I let them know the situation and wanted to check if the part was in yet. The man told me there was no part ordered and that if they ordered it, they would have taken my name. I was pretty mad at this point and told the guy I was going to complain to the 82^nd store and dialed them on my phone. Instead of apologizing, again, he told me I could drive to Oregon City, which I was not about to do. Meanwhile, the woman next to him was able to look it up and interjected that it would be there in the morning. Pretty incompetent staff here if you ask me…

Since we’re talking auto parts stores, O’Reilly in SE Portland, though just over into Clackamas County, is more «as good as it gets» than «I’m a fan.» There is a lot of selection, the store is large, it is conveniently located, it has adequate parking because it doesn’t share its lot with other merchants, its hours are convenient, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
They really earned their 5^th star on my last trip there. I realized that what one might think is chrome trim in their grilles and other inserts on their car is actually metalized plastic that is finished to look like chrome. To that end, the salesperson read the fine print, which I had just scanned, and I learned that the chrome polish was not to be used on metalized plastic trim. Now that is what I call conscientious. Not only that, he seemed to really enjoy helping people get the best and correct items for their cars.
Unlike other auto parts stores on the never-​ending retail strip mall hell that is SE 82^nd, this store requires that one turn off of SE 82^nd onto another street and then turn into their parking lot. However, there is a left turn lane if coming up on SE 82^nd, so this is not a problem and their own parking lot is the reward.
Every time I’ve been a customer here has met with my satisfaction.

Great service! I was trying to get my air conditioning to work and one of the guys helped me put the spray in my car! The girl at the front desk was very helpful too!
