First of all I don’t know if i have ever given a spot 5 stars I’m usually a 3 or 4 star guy but wow this place tops the mark. My wife and I show up about 15 minutes after they close so as we are leaving a guy comes out and waves us in and gets us some pips. He tells us that these won’t be as good as the fresh ones but we didn’t care we wanted to try them out. We got a nice variety from what was left and let me tell you BESTDONUTEVER I have traveled the world done work in 6 countries on 4 continents and they truly are the best pastry I’ve ever eaten.

I’m with everyone else(well, almost everyone) on this one. Skip Voodoo… Pip’s is THE place! As a recent Portland transplant, I was recommended this place by the guy who installed our security system in our home. I got all kinds of great recommendations from that guy! I stopped into Pip’s on the way home from work to give it a day in court, and now I can’t stop. It’s sort of a blessing and a curse that this place is only 2 miles from my house. I try very hard to walk there now to get donuts, so I can justify eating a half dozen along with my Heart of Gold chai on my 2 mile walk home. I love that all of their donuts are minis so you can«try» a bunch of them(and then eat them all). Plus, the chai is off the hook! Typically, I find chai too sweet for my liking, but the Heart of Gold chai(the only one I have tried) was not too sweet at all. There is a hint of sweetness, but the focus is more on the variety of spices, and they use whole milk(unless otherwise specified), which makes it rich and creamy. I have to literally stop myself from going to Pip’s everyday. The struggle is real. Seriously, you haven’t fully lived until you’ve tried Pip’s!

We’ve been customers at Pips since the day they opened. It’s convenient to have a donut shop 5 blocks away from our house and my little guy loves the donuts. Over the last 2 years, I’ve noticed the customer service takes a dip downward a bit more every time we come in. We avoid weekends because it’s just too crazy and overwhelming, so we stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30… The guy at the counter mumbled so bad I couldn’t even understand him. I had to ask him to repeat himself 3! times. There was no water in the huge ass water container. I couldn’t have been the first person to let them know, but when I did tell the two girls and the guy(who wasn’t working, but just stopped in to chat) they didn’t seem in too big of a hurry to fill it back up. I went back after 5 minutes or so and it was STILL empty. It must not have been very important to them. The donuts were still good. And the guy making the drinks was on point. If your motto is #communitynotcompetition you should also keep in mind that #customerservice is important as well.

These were the most amazing mini doughnuts that I have ever had the pleasure of tasting! I ordered a dozen(just for me) because I wanted to try a couple of each of the unique flavors. My favorites were the Dirty Wu and the Candied Bacon and Maple… I have never tasted anything quite like it. I also had a Heart of Gold Chai, it was good, but I did not think it was the best pairing with the doughnuts. Everything about this little doughnut shop is hip-Portland…and with that, come the lines at any and all times of day… if you can get past that, it’s well worth it! We will definitely be back!

Forget Voodoo, Blue Star, Krispy Kreme… Pips is the best place to get hot fresh doughnuts. The Dirty Wu is king and the chai selection can’t be beat! Avoid on Saturdays as this place gets swamped…

«Stop me if I eat more than 10» Is what I told my best friend when we walked into the crowded, lively little doughnut place off of Freemont street in Portland. When someone brings doughnuts into the office everyone goes nuts. But, the only thing that is annoying is that people cut doughnuts in half in order to have two kinds. PROBLEMSOLVEDPEOPLE. Pips, makes fresh delicious mouth watering mini doughnuts that are worth every single penny. They have a few alternating flavors, and some flavors that are there forever like the Dirty Wu, a crowd favorite. They also make delicious brews and Chai’s as well. Come in, be prepared to wait in line, wait for a table and wait for your doughnuts(that are made fresh and hot). And be prepared to not stop at 10. Because the rationale is that 5 mini doughnuts is 1 large one. You are welcome.

Delicious little fresh, sweet morsels. There is a line, and limited seating– if you’re trying to get a table, you have to be aggressive or it’ll get poached. Getting them to go is simpler, if you can pass on the chai sampler. The simple cinnamon/sugar is my favorite; my husband loved the bacon jam and talked about it for hours. The cranberry/cream was good, and the honey/sea salt is simple and tasty as well. We’ll try a Nutella flavor next time. The only thing I didn’t personally love was the chai– I’m more of a traditional chai drinker, and the smokey flavor of the Smokey Robinson was just too much smoke and not enough chai for me. Perhaps other flavors are more chai-like, though they all had varying ingredients, for the more adventurous chai drinkers. There are other drinks as well if you’re not about that chai life!

These are the kind of donuts that I crave. Made fresh, hot, and very cheap for a dozen donuts! I regretted getting the smokey Robison chai though because it had a very unflattering smell and the smoke overpowered the other flavors. Without the smoke, the chai would’ve been great. I didn’t think it would be that smokey… They also have a variety of milk so you can pick and chose what you want!

They are busy and close exactly at closing time so get in early and be prepared to wait! We tried the wu, nutella and sea salt, raw honey and sea salt, and cinnamon sugar. My favorites were the cinnamon sugar and raw honey & sea salt. I also favor these tiny donuts over the large cakey donuts you’d find at top pot since I’ve never been a huge sugar fiend to begin with. Overall, it’s a cute spot to taste Interesting flavors and grab a coffee/chai and some donuts with some friends!

Totally understand why everyone rants and raves about these donuts. I initially saw them make an appearance on Taste Made, then started seeing them in all of the«What You Have to Do in Portland» –esque articles. I love how fresh and warm they are once you get them, and each flavor is special and delicious like a snowflake. Not that snowflakes are delicious. The line was ridicuously long, but the wait was worth the mouthwatering bliss that followed once I sunk my teeth into each donut. VooDoo is a sad joke compared to this place.

When I moved to Portland 2 months ago everyone said, «Go to Voodoo!» It was mostly people who have never been here telling me that. I guess they saw that place on a travel show or something and thought it looked amazing. I thought it looked kind of meh. I can put fruity pebbles on a donut myself and save an hour of standing in line for it. When I became aware of Pips, though, it was game on. I had to have some of those little bites of heaven. I looked at the photos, I read the descriptions, and I knew these would change my understanding of what it means to be a donut — forever. Today I had a Noah’s ark — two of everything. There wasn’t one better than the other. They were all masterfully prepared and warm, crunchy with sugar, melting with chocolate, sweet with honey. Just to put it in perspective, here you go: Pips are to Voodoo as … Trader Joes is to 7 – 11 Champagne is to Boone’s Farm Killer Burger is to Jack in the Box Cashmere is to polyester Ferrari is to Ford I think you get the picture.

Delicious one bite doughnuts that redefine doughnut freshness. Yeast doughnut lovers need not apply. These little guys are on the warm and cakey side. We tried the King and I chai, which reaffirms for me my love for cardamom. This was wonderfully, only lightly sweetened, so it paired well with the doughnuts.

So Portland = doughnut heaven. There’s Voodoos, Bluestar, and then there’s Pip’s. Smaller than its competitors, but maybe it’s the simplicity of their doughnuts(fried balls of goodness), I enjoyed Pip’s a lot more than Bluestar(sorry Voodoo fans, couldn’t stomach all the insane sugar that they dump on Voodoo doughnuts). I also loved that you can taste all different types of Chai(Emmylou and the Ginger Rogers were by far my favorite). Nothing beats those cold, rainy days in Portland than a nice hot cup of Chai(or 6 cups :)) and some mini doughnuts(nutella!!!)

Absolutely amazing. I finally got to try this place out and it is SO worth the hype. My friend and I split a plate of an assorted 12 donuts: 3 of the Nutella and sea salt, cinnamon sugar, the Dirty Wu, and the Cranberry cream. All were so tasty and wonderful. They came out warm and fresh and were incredibly delicious! My favorite was the Dirty Wu– which had caramel, Nutella and some sea salt on it– such great flavor in a small bite. I also enjoyed a 12oz vanilla latte, and I must say it was honestly the best vanilla latte I’ve had in a while. So coffee is also up to par. The prices were also pretty good and affordable and I felt like I totally got my money’s worth! This place has been getting a lot of hype lately and Pips did not disappoint. I would so much rather come here then ever go back to Voodoo which is so overrated and definitely not as good. It was a little busy and crowded, but my friend and I found seating after waiting in line for a bit– people are always coming and going. I am already thinking about my next trip back. Thumbs up to you, Pips.

You can stop looking now. These are the best donuts in Portland. The donuts are just the right size and are always freshly cooked. The chai here is also second to none. I highly suggest getting the chai flight to try all of the different flavors that they serve here. Try pairing each of the different donut types with a different type of chai to see which ones you like best! The décor in this place is very Portland. You’ll really enjoy this place if you’re looking for a place that’s Instagram friendly.

Back again, but this time on a weekend. It was definitely a lot more crowded than I expected, but I was glad to try their Blueberry Lavendar donut. I’ve had the rest(honey&sea salt, nutella, cinnamon sugar, and dirty) before. I will note that these are definitely for immediate consumption, I brought some to my friends about an hour later and they tasted flat/soggy. Unfortunately, they’ve redone their interior so the Life mags are no longer around, but they have a bigger space form what I remember. Keep in mind, this place does get quite busy!

Pip’s, you are crack-a-lacking. I dragged the boy-o out to your little shop during a whirlwind trip, and we were able to enjoy your fantastic mini-donuts and coffees. Things that I would return time and time again for are most definitely: ++ RAWHONEY&SEASALTDONUT. + CINNAMON&SUGARDONUT. +++ EMMYLOUCHAI w/LAVENDER, CHAMOMILE&FENNEL Seriously, these fresh-from-the-fryer mini donuts were incredible(although I found the ones with Nutella to be far too sweet). Pip’s insane selection of chai teas is fantastic, too — I almost got in line for a second Emmylou, but the line was too long. Pip’s, I will be back for more for sure!

I think three Unilocal instagram famous donut places in Portland, Pip’s had my favorite donuts. Was it the area we were in? The way the sunshine was hitting the streets? The clear skies and friendly people? The aroma of fresh donuts and tea filling my lungs as I walked into Pips? I’m sure it was a combination of all those. On the way in, I glanced at other people’s orders and was delighted that they were tiny portions packing serious flavors. Like all things Portland, there was an option for flights– CHAITEA flights! Not a fan, but it was definitely something new to try. Jen W. enjoyed herself and each variety was a nice mixture of flavors that blended together for the most part. We pretended to be donut and chai connoisseur, pairing our donut selection with each of the chais. We ordered one of every donut and they were divine– each and every one of them! It comes with a placecard with a description on each of the chai(so you know what you’re drinking)! My favorite was probably maple bacon– that they absolutely do justice, and the Dirty Wu. Mmmm, it’s such a cute place and the ideal place for fresh, morning donuts! Make sure to bookmark this as a pitstop because it’s the best of the best! Plus, the offer coffee all at the same price FOR whatever size that you want. Uhm, yes please to all the coffee lovers out there! Cheers Portland!

Best donut in Portland. I will always pass on BlueStar and Vodoo. You can find me at Pips. I’ll be there with a Chai in hand and Nutella all over my face, lol. Jesus they are delicious. Freshly made and sooooooooo yummy. I don’t enjoy lines, but I’ll stand in one to get a little Pip’s.
