An update from my prior review. I had the pleasure of being contacted by the program coordinator for the Portland Fruit Tree project at the start of this summer and had a rather lengthy exchange of e-mails over communication and the revising of some of their procedures. With much hesitation on my part, my beloved decided to contact them about our fruit trees after I had communicated with them. The revised review reflects our experience. Portland Fruit Tree volunteers showed up on two separate occasions en mass and after staging their tables and preparing boxes for the fruit, plucked our fruit trees bare(save for the fruit we already picked the day before for our own usage.) Their crews were efficient, fast and extremely cautious of the property and the trees. After the picking started, the fruit was sorted and aside from a portion going to the volunteers, the vast majority went to organizations who distribute food to those in need. The volunteers even cleaned up after themselves leaving literally no trace of the picking process at the trees. FYI, this is no Grinchlike conversion, I tend to be very critical of any organization that makes promises and fails to deliver on them. However, Portland Fruit Tree came through with flying colors and are deserving of all five stars for the job they did on my trees and the work they do. Plus, as a side note, you get a receipt for the fruit picked for tax purposes! If you have excess fruit in your trees, give them a call!
