This would be a great first date spot. Very decent cocktails, big comfortable leather couch in the corner to hang out on as if it’s your own living room, usually pretty music playing(noticed Emogen Heap and Goldfrap last time I was there). The best part is that’s it’s usually almost completely empty. It won’t stay in business this way, but I sure like having the whole place to myself. It also helps that this is about two blocks from my house.

Very kind customer service. Speaciality drinks only here really and a few beer choices. The well whiskey here is Evan Williams so… But the bartender here so far. Poors really good drinks. Great indoors lounging area inside and outside. Place looks new.

Nine months ago, when I was touring apartments before I even officially lived here, Prettyman’s served me up my first Portland beverage. For that reason alone, I’ll probably always look fondly at Prettyman’s. Thankfully, they don’t have to rely on nostalgia alone. This is a great little unassuming neighborhood spot for a beer or a cocktail, and one I need to visit more often. So what’s to drink? At Prettyman’s you’re looking at either beer or one of their cocktails on tap. I definitely like the draft cocktail concept, and Prettyman’s has some good ones. I particularly liked my Boulevardier, and I also got down with some semi-spicy tequila drink. They were reasonably priced and tasted dang good going down. One thing that does seem odd is that with the exception of a small whisky selection, you can’t just order a drink. It’s either their pre-made on tap drinks or nothing. I would hope that sooner rather than later they opt to accommodate people who might just want a gin & tonic or whatnot. The place is small and as a result seating can be somewhat limited. There are just a few spots at the bar, and that TV? It won’t be on unless there’s a Timbers or Blazers game. Thank god. I hate going to bars to just watch TV. If you prefer, there’s also a super cozy couch area. I don’t think Prettyman’s is ever going to be a big nightlife destination, but I don’t think that’s their goal. Instead, it’s a comfortable, friendly and aesthetically pleasing neighborhood hangout. This little corner of Portlandia is better of because of it.

As predicted, Prettyman’s General has become one of my go-to spots in SE Portland. Having opened its doors less than a year ago, PM’sG has calmed any evidence of opening jitters, and completely deserves all the stars! Housed in a comfy/cool spot on Hawthorne Avenue, PM’sG acts as a trendy yet relaxed place to meet up with friends for food and/or drink. Seating options are plentiful with a number of comfy couches, bar seating, a large table, and outdoor benches. There are a number of games– Cards against Humanity, Chess, etc.– for customer use. In short, PM’sG has paid a lot of attention to creating a space that customers will love. My earlier comments about a lacking food menu are no longer applicable; PM’sG has expanded their menu(including an amazing Sunday brunch!) to please both vegheads and carnivores alike. Aside from Brunch(which, again, is spectacular), I would not seek out PM’sG for a full meal. But if I’m already there for a drink, I will happily enjoy a snack or two off of their menu. In addition to an expanded food menu, PM’sG has added an entirely new craft cocktail menu. There’s a reason these cocktails took a while to show up on the menu– After first sip, it is quite apparent that a lot of thought and time was devoted to creating these delicious drinks. Aside from mixed drinks, PM’sG also offers local beers(on tap and in bottle), and wine(by the glass, or you can buy a bottle and enjoy it there for no corkage fee). Lastly, this place houses a little secret. Come Timbers or Blazers game day, PM’sG plays the game both on the TV over the bar, and on a projected screen near the couches. It’s one of my favorite places in Portland to watch a game!

I can’t believe I paid to eat here. One of the worst things about having a bad meal in Portland is that you’re immediately aware of at least 5 other amazing meals within a mile. This place didn’t feel like SE Portland. Here’s the deal, I purchased a Ham Sandwich($ 11) a Charcuterie plate($ 10) and a cup of soup($ 5). The Charcuterie board came out first with one type of meat, one little wedge of cheese(very little) and mustard and jam — and a bunch of whole wheat bread. Then the soup came out, with even MORE whole wheat bread cut up the same way. Then, the Sandwich, which consisted of ham, cheese, lettuce and(yep, you guessed it!) was served on the same f’ing WHOLEWHEATBREAD. Man, I ate A LOT of that bread tonight. Service was straight up abysmal. I mean, really bad — even for Portland. I see many five star reviews. Did this place used to be good, and now they’re going out of biz? Or, are you guys not from Portland? Or do you not eat out much here? Or, are these planted reviews???

For starters, I liked this place for its chill environment. The décor is rustic meets worldly traveler. There are plentiful seating. You wanna study? Sure! There is a huge table with chairs on one side. Oh, your back hurts from sitting on a hard chair too long? No problem. The other side of the the venue has a comfy couch that you can just melt into. Or, you may choose to sit up at the bar on cushy stools. Something for your different moods and needs. However, what I didn’t care for: their food selection and offerings. Between my boyfriend and I, we shared a pickle platter($ 5) and meat/cheese plate($ 10). Holy moly, it was spendy for what we got. The pickle platter felt like an afterthought. They used a huge plate and the amount of pickles on it was sparse. Perhaps if they used a smaller plate it wouldn’t look so bad. There was a lot of uncovered land on the plate. The meat and cheese plate was nothing to write home about. Honestly, I didn’t care much for it. Again, for the amount paid, what we received made me sad. Sad, sad cheese plate. One type of meat and a wedge of cheese. Bread, mustard, fig preserve. Meh. Whatevs. Happy hour was not thaaaaat happy. It wasn’t apparent what happy hour entailed. I kind of looked around trying to figure out what the happy hour was and gave up. I just asked the bartender what happy hour here was about. The bartender looked slightly sheepish telling us about their happy hour, which was pretty non-existent… or at least one of the least-happy happy hours. heh. It was a dollar off the drink menu. yippee. Idk, Portland has so many great happy hour options so I was disappointed this was what they offered. I really wish we went else where when the food came out. Womp womp It’s a cool place to hang out, but I’m not sure what they are going for here. do I come here with a group? On a date? I suppose it’s a place you can come for a drink before you go out to dinner or grab a drink after dinner? Definitely not a place to eat. Shrugs. I don’t really know. Curious what others think of this place.

The atmosphere and décor of this place is amazing. But the food left something to be desired. Happy hour consists of a dollar off drinks and that’s it, so it youre looking for cheap happy hour food look else where. I ordered the pickle plate and the meat and cheese plate. They were both good. The pickles plate consisted of some pickles green beans, celery, and red onion. The meat and cheese plate came with a cured soppressata, wedge of cheese, slices of baguette and a fig and mustard pairing. Although tasty the pickles was underwhelming on the plate. For a few dollars more I could think of a few places that had a more impressive charcuterie plate as well. They also carried small selection of artisanal food stuffs. You’ll find a beautiful shelf of olives, wines, pastas.

I CANTEVENDRINKALCOHOLAND I STILLLOVETHISPLACE!(I’m 14) but really. It’s so cool. A great environment throughout the day. Its so welcoming. But since I can’t experience one of the major parts of this shop(alcohol) I doubt I can accurately tell you how good it is.(Since ur probable going for that.) But I do know the people are really really friendly. And they have lots of cool art and books. And the furniture is über comfy. They have awesome special food items on Saturdays and Sunday’s. I can’t say what. Since its special every week. I also would recommend it as just a place to work. It’s a very peaceful environment in the day. I’m sure you will be totally satisfied with your visit here and love it and want to come back.
