I occasionally need a Marimmekko fix and visiting Relish is a lot cheaper and quicker than a trip to Finland. They have design services if you want your own pad to be as slick and polished as a Scandinavian design magazine. They styled this years NWModern home and it was outrageously beautiful. I registered 5 years ago for our wedding and the wide variety of high and low items made it easy for out of town guests and family to get us things we will cherish for a lifetime. One of the most useful things they carry is the entire line of FLOR tiles. Avoid the frustration and disappointment of trying to pick them out of the catalog, you can come here to see and touch the entire line.

Relish Design is the go to spot if you are shopping for a designer type. There are many in Portland. It’s so curious that Northern Italian design inherited from the Bauhaus dominates aesthetics. Relish mixes that with French and Scandinavian interpretations, even American. No Southern Italian design here. They have beautiful minimal jewelry, and household items. If you get on their mailing list, you can find out about sales and in store events with other design-minded people. They have been the prime place to buy some small run designers in Portland. I haven’t used their design services, but if you need the help of a very design savvy eye, with a huge catalog, Trish can do it. They are obsessive in a good way in curating beautiful and cool items, unavailable elsewhere. A definite spot to check for the hard to shop for, or for your designery self.

I wandered in here because I’m a sucker for home décor shops. It’s an attractive open space with a meticulously edited selection of products. They carry Blomus and Marimekko products, among others, which make great additions to a modern living space(or make great gifts for your modern-minded friends). And as an added bonus, the ladies working there were very nice and offered us wine and snacks while we browsed. Isn’t that the best way to shop?

I’ve never been to the old Relish location so this review is biased towards the current spot on Lovejoy. From your first step inside the door you are bombarded by an eyeful of unique and thoughtfully-chosen products. The ingenuity of their suppliers coupled with their own cleverly crafted designs make browsing a real pleasure. A small bonus is the easy access to the wine shop next door, thanks to a hallway that connects the two, a perfect match to the variety of wonderfully playful double walled wine glasses they sell. The most impressive thing I found at Relish wasn’t a lamp or rug or chair, but the astounding service we got from the staff. I don’t know if she was an owner, but the dark haired girl working checked in with us throughout our visit and advised us of sales, product info, etc., without being the least bit pushy or annoying. I felt she was there to help, not simply to move merchandise. There was no sense of urgency to buy, tho we did walk out with some purchases. Her husband and children stopped in while we were there and made me feel like I was part of a funky-modern Norman Rockwell painting. I’m not sure why, but this touch of daily life made me even more happy to be contributing to the success of a local business. Relish the time you spend here, it’s a great place to shop for gifts or to find something special for your home. (I know some people may disagree with me on classifying Relish as «Moderate» on cost, but it’s not pricey either and in fact seems priced less on many items than you would expect to find in similar style stores, doubtless a key to their success.)

An entertaining, if ultimately confusing, little retail boutique with an emphasis on modern items for the home. The array of items on display in this shop is somewhat incongruous, but somehow it all works. My favorite thing in the store by a long shot were the little laser cut steel fold out pop ups. If I had money to burn I would buy one as a birthday present for my nerdy best friend.

Relish full of modern color With a business name like Relish, I just had to go inside and see what was for sale. I’m a relish fanatic on hot dogs and little burgers — well, just about any sandwich really. Sad for my craving but good for my waistline, Relish turned out to be a funky, modern shop. Vibrant colors everywhere jump out at you when you walk in, with some unique gifts you’ll probably not find anywhere else. Such finds as a squeezable salt and pepper, my favorite, and a plastic wallet. These items weren’t cheap, but they weren’t typical either. Sometimes the extra cost is worth it when you’re looking for something for someone who has everything. Tip: One of the most unique items for sale was the float red wine glasses. Some people don’t serve red wine at parties because they’re scared it will stain their carpet or furniture. These glasses are the answer to that worry and style to boot.

Chic little design store. Has an amazing selection of items for being such a small store – it is a testament to the quality of their stock.
