I used to sell to stroheckers from before lambs took over them to right after lambs took over. They have a history of moron clueless managment hires. I could see the writing on the wall for this closure for years. Neither the idiots at lambs or the even larger idiots from bales have a CLUE about gourmet or specialty foods. And now I hear they are closing, it’s about time. I see the «manager» listed as a guy name butch, if it’s the same butch that ran the Farmington bales and then the Cornell one, I’m not surprised at all. That guy is the biggest clueless jerk I’ve ever met. I have lived near the Farmington bales for almost 20 years and never have or ever will shop at any bales store just because their managers were such clueless jerks. Here’s hoping the rest of the bales outfit goes the way of lambs and marcotts. The Portland Metro area will be much better when they are all gone.

Stroheckers has been bought twice since its independent glory days and the rise of competition from Whole-Seasons-Zups and even Fredy’s. I hope they survive the current redo of what they stock into something special and try to figure out what their neighborhood wants.
They are fine a good source for grocery basics in the ‘hood or picnic supplies for nearby park tailgating or blanketing.

Love this store! Though they are a bit more expensive (definitely NOT double the prices as stated in another review) their quality and local neighborhood friendly service is fantastic. They are what local stores used to be before the big box stores took over.

The store has a lot of good stuff but the customer service is terrible. I stop there often because of the location but they are some of the unfriendliest people I’ve ever run into as a customer. I tell them «thank you» and they walk away with no response, no eye contact. I’m speaking primarily about the deli. It’s a negative bummer.

This place is definitely lingering between the 2 and 3 star range. We live in the neighborhood and honestly only ever come here when we know the traffic will be bad getting off the hill or if we just need to grab something quick. However, their produce department has to be one of the worst in the city — old, overripe fruit and sad looking veggies. Also, I’ve had to dig far back in the dairy department in search of milk that isn’t within days of expiration.
Where I will give it 3 stars is the coffee window, which is a nice option in the neighborhood. The service is also very friendly, but sometimes understaffed.
In a nutshell: good option for the neighborhood if you just need to pick up a quick item or two, but not good for when you truly need to grocery shop.

This grocery store is right down the street from my house, so I wish I could love it. The staff is incredibly nice, but the store itself is run-down and tired looking. I have purchased spoiled produce here on more than one occasion, and quite often the meat department is out of whatever I came in for. I wish the parent company who owns this location would put in the resources it deserves, because I know neighbors want to shop here. On the upside, there is a post office right in the store! Bonus!

I just love coming here to the deli. I use to go to Zupans, however, the customer service I get from Kathy makes it worth driving the extra couple of miles. I just love their pasta salads! Especially the one with the roasted tomatoes! Kathy has lots of patience no matter how many lunch orders I bring from work :)

One of the better grocers in the city. Worth it just for the liquor store, but their selection is great. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE! If you don’t have to, driving out of your neighborhood for groceries is lame and irresponsible. You know it is. Spend money here and it will go back to being THE VERY BEST.

Ahhhh, come on folks. We are so lucky to have this store in the neighborhood and we should all do a better job of supporting it. It’s convenient, comprehensive and the staff really try their darnedest.
We can walk there. So can all the kids in the neighborhood. True, it’s far from perfect and I prefer to get fresh produce down the hill at Zupan’s, but if we don’t support it, they can’t improve.
The wine cellar is amazing and the liquor store is convenient and both are staffed by very knowledgable folk.
Anything in the canned/preserved/dried domain features an amazing assortment, and unlike any other place in Portland: mustards, vinegars, oils, rice, pasta, coffee, cookies, crackers, herbs, spices, chocolate, etc.
Give it a try.

I thought I stepped back in time when I went in here. I expected a nice small grocery store, not a run down 90’s styled one. Especially in that fancy part of town.
Coffee was bad, service was bad, and the place is dirty and untidy.

if someone tells you that if you like zupan, whole foods, and new seasons that you’ll LOVE stroheckers:
don’t believe them.
this place is on par with iga or a & p.
I didn’t like the looks of it or the smell. the deli selections looked less than appetizing and it seems they slice up boars head brand meat & cheese (don’t they sell that at walmart).
I’ll stick to safeway, thank you very much.
*the second star is for the wine cellar & liquor store. there appears to be ample wine selection and I did find a very agreeable cab. but their price for moet chandon imperial is crazy! (was it close to $ 60? pick that up somewhere else for $ 39).

That’s it. I went there tonight at 5 hoping to pick up a chicken. All they had were parts. I got three pieces of chicken, a small container of mashed potatoes and half a small container of «gravy» (a gluey goop that tasted like flour and little else).
The cost? $ 15!
The container of potatoes — not even a half pint — was over $ 5. Seriously, if you’re going to charge Whole Foods prices, you’d better offer Whole Foods quality. I wouldn’t have fed that gravy to my dog, and the shriveled up pieces of chicken were like leather. I’m never going back to this greedy, crappy store.

The only thing that keeps this store in business is location — it’s the only option in this part of town if you don’t want to drive down the hill to Zupan’s or New Seasons, both of which are excellent stores. Stroh’s has gone way down in quality and service over the years. You have to keep a sharp eye for expiration dates because they have a lot of product on the shelves which are way past. The quality of the produce is poor and I would never buy meat or fish there. As noted in other reviews, prices are high, which I wouldn’t mind if the quality reflected it. The one positive point is the wine selection with the convenience of a liquor store next to it.

This is as close to a perfect neighborhood grocery store as you can get. WIth a liquor store downstairs — so convenient. Yes, it’s a bit more expensive but (for example) they have sales and are in the neighborhood, which is underserved. Friendly people who actually remember your name (that is, if you have introduced yourself — who does that anymore?), offers carry-out service if you seem to need it, has ample free parking and a great selection of high-quality meats, cheeses, a Beaverton Bakery counter, organic dairy products … sale items and a great pharmacy. We switched our prescriptions from walgreen’s and freddy’s and have never regretted it.

Just moved into the neighborhood and I love this little market. The prices are reasonable, probably not as cheap as other grocery stores, but given the location, I think it’s worth it. They have a nice selection of produce and a variety of different brands including organic and generic. They meat counter is great and I especially love the liquor/wine cellar in the basement!
If you don’t live in the area, it would still be a nice place to stop in for some picnic items on your way to the SW trails!
