I went to the new brick and mortar location today on SW5th Ave. I was a little confused because the pricing was different than the menu on the web site. Each protein is a different price and they feature premium proteins such as lamb. I tried the chicken and the lamb stumplings which are good with lots of flavor. I got a few dipping sauces to try too and am a fan of the Thai mustard and the peanut.(I dropped the hoisin so didn’t actually get to try that one.) I also wanted a coconut bao but they weren’t offering any. :-(I tried the tandoori chicken«curry» bao but it was really bland. I didn’t finish it. I’ll probably give them one more try before I give up because I really like dumplings and used to visit the dumpling place that was there prior to Stumptown.

It’s Fusion Asian Dumplings. Interesting flavors. You really don’t need sauces with these! They do NOT skimp on spices. Ginger was strong enough to my liking in the pork. Garlic strong enough in the chicken. These were my 2 favorites. The spinach one, meh. Good prices. Good service. AND, you can order online ahead of time! What a deal! Not the best dumplings I’ve had, but more than good enough for a change.

I went twice in one day! I usually get dumplings from the place in the Lloyd center but they closed down. So I Unilocaled and came across this place. The guy at the window was hilarious. I mean we chatted it up like we knew each other for years. Super friendly. Real helpful and even a team player. They ran out of something and offered me something from the cart directly in front of them. And the food, My goodness, which is why I had it for lunch and dinner. I used their site for my second order and he text me back right away. went right up and picked it up. My new favorite place

I absolutely love this place. The dumplings are affordable, super yum, and the staff is friendly. However, I give 4 stars instead of five because they NEVER have my favorite peanut sauce. Out of the 15 times I’ve been there they’ve had it twice. It bums me out tbh. I just wish they would make more peanut sauce. Everything else is on point though.

There’s not a ton on the menu, but my goodness everything they have us fabulous!!! Dumplings done right! Perfect thickness, great fillings(chicken is my fav), y absolutely phenomenal sauces to accompany them(go with the ponzu and chipotle sauces the combo is dangerous!). I ate these for a snack three times in 4 days. If that doesn’t convince you I don’t know what will!

I got 4 chicken and 5 pork and both seemed a little over watery. Might have been an off day but I most likely wont return.

Pretty good dumplings and sauces. Not my favorite part of town but the service was nice and they had a little courtyard to eat in as well.

There is a Stumplings window in downtown Portland by the Saturday Market. It’s in one of my favorite places in downtown and it is a great place to people watch. I happened upon this place on my way to another place to get some food. I just saw this first. I love dumplings and I love steam buns. I’ve only had the dumplings so far and they are sooooo good!!! I also like the dipping sauces too. The price is good for the amount of dumplings that you get. I ordered the chicken and the pork with Asian Chipotle sauce and … I am running a blank on the other sauce but it reminds me of the roast duck that I buy at the Asian stores. It tastes so good and the Asian Chipotle sauce is surprising spicy. I like that a lot. While you wait for your dumplings or steam buns, you can people watch. Across the way is a bar and you can drink outside so the sweetheart had a beer with the dumplings. It was a nice after-bar snack. I recommend this place to anyone. Even as I write this, my mouth is watering from the remembered goodness. Mmm… so delicious.

At times like this I regret my average star rating. More than 5* for Stumplings. Best boa and dumplings I’ve had since Beijing. Especially the boa, phenomenal texture and fillings.

Good: Dumpling fillings are quite tasty, especially the pork and ginger. Unfortunately the dough is too thick and chewy. Better: Lots of tasty dipping sauces! Best: Really friendly service and the dumplings are fresh. Overall, the dumplings are not that great… was especially disappointed by the veggie dumpling which was flavourless. The dipping sauces help jazz things up, but you need to order a couple of them to keep things interesting. Probably a two star review, but I threw in an extra as the service was so damn friendly! Dollars: $ 8 for a dozen dumplings which included 3 sauces

I have heard rave reviews for this place and had been curious for quite some time now. So one late night after an evening of drinking I stumbled upon their window tucked away in an alley. I was thrilled to have some delicious food to fulfill my drunchies but wasn’t really satisfied. I tried their spinach, chicken and pork dumplings and the pork bao. The spinach with sai fun was disappointing and flavorless. The chicken was very mediocre and not something I would order again. The pork was the best by far. The meat being juicy and fairly flavorful but still nothing to tell my friends about. The flavor of the pork in the bao was pretty good, with a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness. The bread was too soft for my liking and lacked that element of chewiness. But serving bao with dipping sauce? What a faux pas! Bao should be able to stand up on their own without a dipping sauce masking the flavor. In my personal opinion, there shouldn’t be so many dipping sauce options. I tried the hoisin and the chipotle sauces and they muddled the flavor of the food. Asian dumplings should be accented by a delicate soy or vinegar, not muddled by such strong flavors.

There’s a small chance I’ll be driving from olympia to pdx just for these pork & ginger dumplings… Food truck was tucked away with a few other choices but hard to choose anything else. Tried the chicken & pork dumplings, pork won hands down for me. These dumplings were flavorful & juicy but the dough was thicker & chewier than I’d like. Still a win though. You can pick from a variety of dipping sauces, which is a fabulous idea. We tried the Asian Chipotle(too spicy, not enough something else) & hoisin(perfect). Also ordered the curried veggie bao, which is vegan & totally yummy. I’d skip it for a few more of the dumplings but it’s good variety & impressive veggie option.

I absolutely love bao and Stumptown Dumplings did not disappoint. I ordered the pork bao and the veggie curry bao, which were prepared quickly. The bao was fluffy, sticky & sweet — exactly the way I like it. The pork filling was traditional & yummy and the veggie was a delicious surprise, since I tend to be a carnivore. I ate every morsel, licking my fingers at the end and scraping bao remnants off the paper with my teeth. I had also ordered the spicy peanut sauce, which was tasty, but not at all necessary. All this for $ 4. I shall return!

HOLYBAO, these were good! I got the spinach dumplings, coconut custard bao, hoison, and thai tea. All were fresh and pretty tasty. The hoison was super salty, not terribly spicy, and went pretty well with the dumplings. The thai tea was as expected. The bao was light and fluffy with a sweet custardy filling, perfect to counteract all that umami and salt. But holy bao, it took them FOREVER to prepare our order. I think of food carts as fast places to grab a bite, but this place took at least 20 minutes to get all our food out. I’ll overlook it for good food and friendly attitudes.

Not really blown away here. Given the stellar Unilocal reviews I thought I’d give this cart a try. I ordered 4 of each of their dumplings — sassy spinach, cheeky chicken, and pompous pork — accompanied by their Asian Chipotle dipping sauce. I found the wrappers to be a bit thick for my liking and the spinach and chicken dumplings to be quite bland. The pork packed some serious flavour though, and the dipping sauce was delicious! Unfortunately it was not enough to make me want to come back, however it would not be a bad option for a quick lunch if already in the area.

The dough for the steamed dumplings is conveniently color-coded, allowing the person to know which one is which before biting into it. There are three types:(1) chicken with chiles, garlic, green onion in an orange wrapper(thanks to carrot juice);(2) pork with ginger, garlic, cabbage, and green onion in a regular wheat wrapper; and(3) spinach with bean-thread noodles, egg, and baked tofu in a spinach juice-infused wheat wrapper. Along with a roast pork bao, Nimesh and Justin have a curry veggie bao containing potatoes, celery, apples, onions, and carrots in a mild Japanese curry. Both buns use wheat flour. Dumplings are generally sold in sets of six, nine, or twelve, and you may customize your order. I got two of each dumpling, plus a curry veggie bao, just for something different. There are five sauces: Asian chipotle, creamy peanut, soy ponzu, spicy hoisin, and Thai mustard. I decided to try the Asian chipotle(a red sauce), and the Thai mustard(yellow in color). Perfectly steamed products here. Of all the dumplings, the pork was my favorite. Just simple, explosive flavors with the garlic and ginger. I also loved the chicken dumpling here. Despite advertising chiles, I couldn’t detect any spice. It’s to be expected after destroying my spicy sensors many years ago. The spinach one was also prepared well, but just didn’t have the flavor burst the other two had. I enjoyed the curry veggie bao. Dough steamed nicely, with a delicious, balanced curry filling. I honestly would have liked more filling and less dough here. A cool presentation, having an open top to the bao so one can see what’s inside. Of the two sauces I tried, Asian chipotle was the clear winner. A mix of sweet and tang, and a controlled kick from the chipotle. The Thai mustard was also good, but it basically lost via TKO to the chipotle. Those dang peppers simply knock out other contenders. Last, but not least, I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee($ 2.50). On a rather humid day(for Portland standards), it was one heck of a refreshing drink. I see great things on the horizon for Nimesh and Justin!

Very bummed about this. I order a simple pork bao here. This is a hard thing to screw up. Basically a «steamed» bun the size of a small fist with BBQ pork inside. The meat was tasty inside, but the bun was just not good. Not good at all. The dough on this tasted like it was baked or something. Did not taste good at all. I’m sorry, but just Inedible & I threw it away. I don’t know if they screwed up the recipe, or maybe it was just kept around too long. I would not be surprised if either, or both. I’ve had these in many many places. The bun is always supposed to be moist. That’s one of the benefits of steaming it. My friend ordered some chicken dumplings(Potstickers). These were OK. Nothing spectacular. I probably won’t be returning here.

I’m a sucker for dumplings so I had to track this cart down once I heard about them. They didn’t disappoint! We tried all 3 flavors of dumplings; pork, chicken, and spinach. All were stuffed with delicious filling, and the wrapper was thick but not too doughy. I liked the spicy chicken dumplings the best. Prices are very reasonable. The dipping sauces were good but not terribly spicy. We also tried the bao — one of each flavor. While I typically like bao and these were good, they were a bit too sweet for my tastes. The curry one was just okay, and I liked the pork bao better, although it was a bit heavy-handed with the Chinese Five Spice flavor. Friendly and quick service, great prices, and great food. My kind of cart!
