So. Disappointed. Never will return to this place. This used to be my favorite spot. First of all, the uni was foul. He explained it was out of season so it tastes like that, i will take it, but i did throw up in the bathroom. Second, he told us that there was a big order ahead of us so we have to wait thirty minutes. We waited for an hour and saw everyone that came after us receive their orders, and our order didnt come. We asked. He said he lost the order because there was too much order. That was it. No apologies and he did not try to make our order. I wonder if he just didnt want to serve us after i told him about the uni. I was upset as i really liked the place. Very unprofessional.:(my day was ruined and i was gaging from the rotten uni taste all night long.

Everything we read in various review was true upon our first time at Sushi Takahashi 2 during a recent visit: the décor is spartan, the staff is accommodating and helpful and the food is delicious, regardless of price. The hand-rolled jalapeño with salmon, and fried oyster, were tremendous, as was the unagi. I’d never eaten at a track sushi joint before and was a little wary about the freshness initially, but after pulling plate after plate I’m a convert to how ST2 prepares its sushi. Will absolutely return and take advantage of their 50 percent off track sushi deal after 8:30 p.m.

Best track(in this case, a train) sushi in Portland. Located next to a convenience store and a vape shop, Sushi Takahashi doesn’t look like much from the outside but the sushi chef makes the greatest temaki(fried oyster, jalapeño hand rolls, spicy tuna, etc.) and nigiri(tempura scallops, razor clams, etc.). Servers are very polite and give good service despite times of high customer volume. Extra bonus: sushi chef plays such good music.

What an amazing meal in my hood! Can’t say enough about the hand rolls, creamy scallops and tempura shrimp rolls! Come for the food not the décor and enjoy every bite!

I’ve been coming to sushi Takahashi for 4 years now. There are delicious house specials and monthly specials, the staff treats you like family, Japanese owned(just sayin.) I always feel comfortable after a long day at work, in this quaint and accommodating environment. They serve a good selection of beer, wine and sake– and the miso soup is approved! The quality is consistent, and the price is absolutely right! I forgot to mention that the sushi comes around on a little train! Can’t resist!

My boyfriend and I have been here several times since it is within walking distance to our apartment. While the fish is noticeably fresh, the past two times my boyfriend had Unagi(his favorite) he had to spit it out because of bones. He no longer orders it from this place because he doesn’t want to chance it. Our only other complaint would be that the hand rolls and pieces are too meaty. I know that may be preference but I look at sushi as something light. The amount of fish in the hand rolls and pieces just seemed a bit over the top and made it so I was full despite wanting to try other selections.

Sushi Takahashi 2 is a great place for fresh, affordable, delicious sushi. Kashi(the chef) is extremely generous and will often throw in an extra handroll or other freebies. While everything on the train is good, the trick to this place is to order off the menu. The best dishes are: creamy spicy tuna handroll, spicy creamy scallops, fried oyster handroll, salmon skin handroll, tempura tai, and the tempura calamari, roughly in that order. The uni is delicious too of course. Sometimes, when Kashi is swamped with orders, it may take a little longer to place your own order, but rest assured that he’s doing his best to satisfy all customers! It’s tough being a one-man show. His generosity, the quality of the food, and the affordable prices all outweigh the occasional wait that customers might have to endure. All-in-all, Sushi Takahashi 2 is an awesome place to swing by and snag some cheap sushi. Thanks for being the man, Kashi-san!

We make the trip from NE Portland about once a month because we LOVE Sushi Takahashi! Chef Kashi is always super friendly and nice, the food is always great, love the train and they usually have good music playing too. Some people on Unilocal have commented that it is a dive, but I disagree. I think that here in Portland everything’s so styled and hip that a place like this may seem dated or low rent in contast. In my eyes it’s perfectly non-pretentious, authentic to itself without trying to be anything other than what it is. Kind of like how places were 30 years ago before everything became so fakey precious or ironic. I love it.

Everything’s pretty good there. The person making sushi seems to enjoy what he’s doing. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that they charged me $ 11 for two plates of uni. On the wall it says 1 uni for $ 3 and 2 for $ 5.50. So I ordered 2 plates. He gave me 4 uni in total so I thought one plate have 2 uni. So I ended up paying extra $ 5.50 for mistake they made.

I’ve lived close but never been. The kids and I love sushi, but the wife doesn’t. She will eat other Japanese, just not sushi. Boy have I been missing out! The fish is excellent and reasonably priced. They have some unique stuff like seasonal fresh sardines, and fried salmon collar(right now). Their rolls are quite good. The sushi rolls around on a little O scale train with flat cars, and the chef makes special requests. It’s a tiny place, I think they can seat 15 – 20 only around the bar. I love the look. They have vertically lettered signs(in English) a la Japan that gives it a cool authentic look. I thought the service was good and prompt. Only one waitress, so she keeps busy. It is a destination. I will be back.

Had lunch here and it didn’t «break my bank». Sushi was pretty fresh, but be prepared to wait in line Fridays. If you can arrive at the restaurant at the right time, lunch may go very quickly — like 10 to 15 minutes. That said, perhaps consider another establishment if you need to «settle a deal» or attend to a job interview during this time. I will be back, but feel like I have to drive by to see if they are open during normal hours?!?

This place is a lot of fun. The train, the quirky decorations, the cozy/intimate atmosphere, all combine to make this a great place to hang out with your friends or loved ones for a quick meal. the happy hour to go boxes are pretty nice too! I’m giving this place 5 stars because it may not be the fanciest sushi place, but for the price and convenience it’s great.

I’v been to so many sushi tracks in Portland, but never a sushi TRAIN track! This location is quit small, with a small track, BUT that means the sushi is always fresh and its not the american-ized garbage chock full of mayo and junk. The chef is japanese, the menu and specials are on the wall, and the food is super good! I will have to take the husband here soon.

Sushi Takahashi is our favorite sushi place to go in Portland. This place is in a run down strip mall in SW Portland. You would never decide to come here if you happened to notice it driving by. Walking in, you would probably consider turning around and walking back out because it looks completely ghetto and maybe not even Japanese. The decrepit train with sushi plates circling the counter adds to the questionable feel this place has. Resist that urge to leave, and sit down and get to know the chief. Ask him what’s good, take note of the specials listed on the walls and order directly from him rather then taking plates from the train. You will be rewarded with outstanding sushi, on a good day, it’s better then anything else you can get in Portland except for omakase from Hiro at Mirakutei. Also, if you like oysters, the oyster hand rolls are amazing. It’s probably something he invented at home with his kids, but it’s so good! If you like this place and become a regular, the owner will treat you right! This place get’s better each time we go. The last thing is that this place is incredibly cheap. I mean, I could have come here when I was in college it’s so cheap. Anyway, I’m a bit nervous to write a review like this, because I’m afraid that our little sushi secret will get out. Right now he’s only open weekdays. Due to this and the location, this place is flying completely under the radar. I hope it doesn’t change!
