Haven’t been for a bit, but remember it quite well. Walked in and we’re very much in the minority. Speaking a bit of Spanish recommended. Got a big ol carne burrito, the outside is perfectly toasted and stuffed with meat, cilantro, and refried beans. Also tacked on an horchata(which was scooped out of a giant vat-looking thing refrigerated next to the ordering counter), which was equally awesome. Particularly since I was on horchata quest at the time. Ain’t the cleanest place, but without food poisoning and a big fat delicious burrito on the cheap, I got no qualms. Heard the prices have increased with their increasing popularity(no surprise there), but I’m still down to go again.

Uraupan keeps it real. This place makes me wish I were more Mexican. The cook doubled as our host and waiter, he used his left pocket as a cash register and busted out a bad ass carne asada burrito while I leisurely sipped on my Tamarindo Jarritos and admired the décor of Uraupan. Reminded me of the old days at La Sirenita before every douchebag from the midwest moved to Alberta street and got a fixie and talked about how Portland they are.

Been here 3 times the first time I thought the food wasn’t bad pretty good and even though it looked like the place was about to close down any minute we still had a good time. the second time it was take out and it was ok, but the other night we got take out again and I will never make that mistake again. WORST food I have eaten in a long time meat was cold hard shells were soggy. and we only live a few minutes away… If you must go here eat it there

Best tripas tacos in town. Good salsas, including a green on that my friend goes there for. Good carnitas, and the sopes looked awesome. Plus super cheap and authentic. It’s a real, grungy, awesome taqueria.

Maybe I was spoiled living 20 minutes from the US-Mexico border and expected the same tasty tacos here in Portland. This was one of the first places I tried when moving here and I wasn’t all that impressed… what salvaged my opinion of Mexican food in the area was actually the countless taco trucks around Southeast — not Taqueria Uruapan. I don’t mind eating in dingy places(I’ve had plenty of meals on the streets of Mexico) but I guess here in the U. S, I expect some higher standards when it comes to cleanliness… especially when there are other better, cheaper options. This place was featured on «dirty dining» TWICE for things like serving spoiled meat, improper refrigeration, the employees not knowing how to wash hands or having access to soap, leaving raw foods next to garbage, etc. Not to mention that they raised their prices from $ 1 to $ 1.25 per taco(it adds up). If you must go, go for the daily taco special… for $ 3.75, you get 3 tacos with rice and beans on the side. I’ve had almost everything on the menu here and don’t recommend anything else other than the tacos. The best ones are carne asada, al pastor, and pollo. The orange colored salsa is the best of the bunch… and use plenty of lime on top, it helps kill the fecal matter and germs that the nosy health inspectors found there. But if you want better, authentic tacos in town… there are plenty better.

From the outside, Taqueria Uruapan looks like a dingy, hard-to-trust Mexican restaurant. The windows are scuffed plastic, and there are no decorations. However, we decided to try it, based on the recommendations on Unilocal and that of a friend. When I first walked in, I immediately felt as though I was back in Mexico. People spoke Spanish, and there was only one employee who cooked and worked the counter. We ordered meals, which included three tacos, rice and beans, all for $ 3.75. The food was delicious and very authentic. The taco filling was wrapped in soft corn tortillas, and filled with crispy, perfectly cooked meat. I had two chicken and one carnitas. They were sprinkled with cilantro and onion with limes on the side. I also loved the beans and rice, and the salsas were to die for. The salsas are serve yourself, and are in big white buckets near the kitchen area. Some were spicy, so if you are sensitive, be careful! I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, and would definately go back again. I recommend it for anyone who likes authentic Mexican food, not the greasy cheddar-cheese coated stuff served at some places.

Until last week I had driven past this little shack countless times wondering if was even open. There was no sign, the windows looked like they haven’t been washed in a decade, so I could never tell if anyone was inside. If this place was in business, it certainly wasn’t because of its location or décor. Betting it would be one of those hole in the wall gems, I stopped by. I’m so glad I did. The menu was simple. No nachos or quesadillas to be found here. Tacos, just like you would find at the food carts in Mexico. Two corn tortillas, onion, cilantro and your choice of some delicious homemade salsa. I had the chorizo and carnitas and they were delicious and cheap. $ 1.25 for delicious, authentic tacos? I’m sold! While they have a limited menu, and the place is not exactly a date spot, they do one thing and they do it well. I’ll be back often, and hopefully will be able to try some of their other offerings the next time around. Then again, those carnitas were damn good and it may be a while before I get around to trying out anything else.

I am not a fan of American versions of Mexican food, which means I don’t each much of it unless I’m actually in Mexico. Burt since I only get down there once a year or so, I really start missing a good carnitas taco. Uruapan is like stepping into a little shop in Mazatlan, Mexico. Don’t come here expecting nice furnishings and impeccable service but do come here with an appetite for authentic Mexican fare. | They are also open late, which is nice when I crave a delicious snack around 9pm. Although, I’m warning you that if you get there after 7 or 8pm you will probably get whatever they have left. The menu choices are often only one or two kinds of tacos at that point. My husband and I have gone here for lunch and had their taco plates(three tacos, rice and beans) for under $ 5 a piece.

I miss tacos! The husband and I lived in Mexico for several months and after coming home I missed authentic Mexican tacos so much. These are real tacos. Corn tortillas filled with onions and meat topped with a little cilantro and salsa. No frills, just tacos. Their carnitas are awesome. As for the rest of the menu, they are often out of things. Often as in everytime I try to order mole or rice and beans, they are out. So I don’t. The tacos are good enough for me. The décor is minimal, but strangely I like it. It reminds me of Mexico. If you ignore the rain outside, you could be sitting in Zacatecas, or Durango eating tacos

Portland is not exactly a haven for authentic Mexican food. That said, these guys serve up some very solid tacos and burritos for a good price. My only real complaint, as with most of the joints in PDX, is that they fall back on rice and beans as filler. Why is it so hard to get a meat burrito with cilantro and salsa and MAYBE some decent guac? Still, this place(along with El Loco) provide no-frills(understatement to be sure) food at a good price. My recommendation? Take it home…

I will drive out of my way to get here if I have a taco craving. I really enjoy the homemade sauces they put out… fantastically yummy and flavorful. The burritos are large and in charge too. I recommend the el pastor!

I’d driven by this place many times and was drawn in by it’s plainness. I usually go for mexican restaurants that aren’t showy. This taqueria was a hole in the wall that always had latino custumors. I figured it was a good sign. Boy, was I wrong. I ignored the sweaty windows, the beat up tables and chairs, thinking that the food would be authentic and delicious. I should have turned around and left immediately. They don’t have drinking water. Only soda. Not good. The table coverings were coated with a greasy film. Eww. The chicken in my burrito was flavorless. And the bit of plastic I found in my food was way too much. I’ll never eat there again. Besides, the taco wagon next to Safeway on Burnside &82nd is closer to home and has not let me down yet.

Two words: muy delicioso! This is one of my three favorite authentic style Mexican food in Portland, OR(the others are San Felipe Taqueria and Super Burrito Express-which may or may not be King Burrito now). Like many Californians who move or visit Oregon, I was on a quest to find consumables from south of the Rio Grande that had nothing to do with a bell or a chihuahua. I used to go to Taqueria Uruapan a few times a week when I worked in SE Portland. Everything I ate here was amazing. Camarones al Diablo were on the pricey side(comparatively), but still worth it. My favorite was the pastor burrito. Tip: if there’s no parking on SE Reedway, park in the McDonald’s parking lot(across the street).

(so far) Best hands down burrito around. It reminded me of home and my faithful gas station burritos. That meat we perfectly seasoned and the crunchy onion bits made my day. The burrito was bear bones. There is something to be said for eating a burrito pure and free. No goopey sour cream, guacamole and all that other crap taking away from the glorious meat! I do like«all that crap» on my burrito most of the time. But this was good. it was great. I’m salivating as I type.

Downright filthy, yet altogether delicious. This is some of the most authentic Mex I have eaten in Portland. The place is tiny and covered in grime. The people there speak little English. The tacos are straight off of a TJ taco cart. Meat, some cilantro, on 2 tortillas, with fresh salsa choices. The Burritos are money. Everything is dirt cheap. The tacos are your best choice. The tables are dirty and falling apart. The floor is filthy. The place is full of Mexicans — a sure sign of a truly good Mex place. Reminds me of being in Mexico. I like that. Not quite 5-star caliber, but it’s up there.

One of southeast’s best bet for the authentic Mexican burrito with two locations in hideous places – 53rd and foster and 82nd avenue! Despite the eyesore neighborhoods, Uruapan dishes out dirt-cheap burritos autenticos and tortas too. A good bet for a true taqueria without having to venture to Gresham or Northeast.

Everything I like about a taqueria. $ 1.25 tacos now, used to be $ 1 but still a good deal. They are small and come on two small tortillas, choice of tasty and probably very greasy meat on greasy tortilla. There are anywhere from 3 to 6 salsas self serve and a secret one that you supposedly have to ask for but I always forget. Asada, carnitas, pastor, chorizo, pollo and I think there is lengua and cabeza. cilantro and onions with the meat. There are also sopes and I think there might be tortas, I always stick with the tacos since they are delicious. small place with pretty grungy kitchen that makes exceptional tacos. If you are looking for some bomb ass tacos this is a good spot. They have the usual mexi sodas to wash downthe tacos, the Uruapan shack on cully and killingsworth is also delicious and only $ 1 i’ll say it again delicious
