The Art of Movement

I have attended classes at The Art of Movement for over a year. The smaller class sizes are great for barre, pilates, and ballet classes where you really want to focus on correct form. Owner Ameena does a great job of pushing you, but also giving you modifications that work for your body and fitness level. These are workout classes you will actually look forward to.

As a 45 year old mom of three I have spent years trying to find the perfect exercise program but I’ve never found what I was looking for. Art of Movement has changed that for me! The instructors are top notch. It’s an intimate environment and they help you with form along the way. We laugh. The setting is relaxed, and most important I’m taking Pilates and Barre! Those are classes that I’ve always been intrigued by but always avoided. I’m embracing it now!

Three reasons why I love this place:
1. The variety of classes — I love being able to switch up my workout (I have the attention span of a three-​year-​old). I regularly do yoga, pilates and barre here, and have also tried out a jazz class. I actually considered switching to a studio closer to my new home, but didn’t find one that had the same variety.
2. There is a definite focus on classes based in dance or some other form of creative expression. Coming from a dance background, I love this — it makes for a much more fun and interesting workout. Plus, I can trick myself into working out on days when I’m feeling less motivated.
3. The music! For example, Nick’s Dark Wave yoga is often set to a soundtrack of Joy Division and the like, which is way more my jam than the more new age-​y stuff. And Ameena’s Electronic Barre class features Little Dragon, Jamie xx, Ladytron… she’s just way too cool for school.
I’ve never had an experience I didn’t enjoy here. Highly recommend!

Love the classes offered here. A nice variety of classes in a totally welcoming environment. I love that they have evening classes too that fit with my work schedule. Candlelight Yoga with April is an amazing relaxing yet strengthening yoga practice. Love it. Also love the Get me Bodied (Beyonce dance class) with Taylor. It is a great workout focusing on abs and glutes, and Taylor is a fantastic teacher for the uncoordinated aka me. I also really love getting my sweat on with the 80’s aerobics with Ameena but I think they have cancelled this class Noooo :-(Anyway great place so glad I found The Art of Movement.

Private and group Pilates lessons with Ameena are a great workout! After several weeks I have already noticed improved strength and posture, plus it’s just fun!
I love the location and natural light in the studio. I look forward to trying their Barre class and 80’s Aerobics!

Awesome, knowledgeable teachers who are willing to take the time to help make any corrections in your form in a kind and considerate manner.
Wide range of classes from beginning to experienced.
They are also very pleasant and a lot of fun!

I’m not someone who would typically seek out a Yoga class, but I was pleasantly surprised after stopping in for Candlelight Yoga a few weeks ago. The space was nice and calming; the pacing was perfect for a beginner like myself.
