The Corner General Store

First off a cornerstone of good business practice is customer service, this place has zero. Each time that I have been here lady behind the counter made us feel as though we were interrupting her valuable Netflix time, making sure to keep a scornful eye on us, ensuring that we felt thoroughly unwelcome. I am quite certain that she assumes that each person that frequents her shop is viewed as a potential thief, I base this on my friend’s and my collective experiences.
On one occasion I asked her about the price of a certain beverage to be met with a huge labored «sigh» and a rather flat annoyed answer.
Well, my lady and I were in need of hydration so we tried not to flinch at the inflated price, although the girlfriend did let out a small gasp.
So here is the moment of the sale, we lumbered up to be judged, the tension mounted. I hand her my card and another heavy «siiiiigh» and a glance that suggested that I had asked her to bring me the skin of her first born child.
«We have a minimum purchase for cards» she hissed through clenched teeth.
Not a problem for me, i went and grabbed a beer from the case. Why not? A hot day such as this! The total rose and the desire to leave this dark, tense dungeon was clouding my judgement, as I normally like to pay the average price for my sundries, not double.
This whole time she was holding my debit card hostage, as she ran it through, I made an rescue attempt, only to be thwarted.
«you have to wait» croaked the toad behind the counter.
As she laid the slip down on the counter I snatched the card with my left and signed «fuck off» with my right. The girlfriend securing our purchases, we swiftly left Corner General, the eyes of the central scrutinizer burning into our backsides.

This store in the only convenience store in the Old Port I think. That’s shitty for you, but good for the store, because then they can charge you whatever they damn well feel like. Want to pay 10 bucks for a pack of cigarettes? If that’s the only place to get them, OF COURSE YOU DO! Need some beer on the walk home? $ 15 bucks sounds reasonable!!! That’s not the best part about this place! Each customer gets special treatment. You get treated as a potential criminal! Every customer gets stared at and watched as if they are going to rob the store blind. But do the clerks ask you if you need help finding anything? NO!!! Anyway, bottom line is this place sucks and the clerks are insanely rude and the owner is a total lunatic. Shop here if you like being treated badly and like wasting your money.
