What is not to love about The Deck. Well the walk down is a little crazy for older folks, but so worth it. Great food, relaxing, and friendly service! Until next season my favorite summer spot!

If you’re looking for an experience and not simply a meal, then this is the place for you! The Deck is an open-air restaurant directly on the Columbia River near NE33rd& Marine Drive. It’s not easy to find — look for a tall cyclone fence with a sign reading«McCuddy’s Marina.» When you go through the fence, be sure to park your car on the LEFT side of the lot. The right side is reserved for those who lease space for their boats and houseboats on the dock. There’s a rather steep gangplank leading down to the dock, but it has a sturdy railing on which to hold. The restaurant, as you might guess, is seasonal — open May through the end of September.(It will close after 9÷26÷15 this year.) When we eat here, I actually feel like I’m out of town and on vacation. Every once in a while, you see boaters pull up, park, and sit down to order a meal. It’s a very festive atmosphere. If it should rain, part of the restaurant provides a sheltered area. You’ll be surprised when you see the menu — the prices are modest. A favorite of mine is the grown-up grilled cheese sandwich. Happy Hour — believe this! — from 11 am to 6 pm. They do close at sunset(probably because you’ll need to walk back up the gangplank to your car.) We love this place, and we hate to see it close every September.

I made reservations the weekend before, thinking it would be crowded. We arrived and the parking lot was half empty Friday night and thinking the wind and rain storm spook them off. We were seated on the floating dock with no wind and water was com. We ordered two fish entrees and salad with salmon. The salad with worth the amount spent but the two fish dinners or not. Overall had good service but one thing for the faint of heart is that it is not really handicapped accessible they didn’t even have handicap parking.

Good happy hour with $ 4 mystery wine – white or red. Location and atmosphere are stunning. Sadly, the food is average – beware the $ 7 fish taco and the happy hour nachos that you could outshine at home. Go for the ribs and the coleslaw – the fries and shrimp cocktail are fine, too. The service is friendly but uneven in attention to detail. Go for the location; it’s lovely.

It was a fun place to go to! The restaurant is right on the river. Great views and it is nice to watch the boats. I ordered the clam strips with fries. The clams weren’t particularly fresh. I didn’t expect them to be. I am sure they were frozen. But for frozen clams they were pretty poor. Our waitress was busy but attentive. The lady next to me ordered a club sandwich and it was huge and looked really good. I am willing to give this place another try.

Fantastic spot for rocking with the waves from the boat wakes on the Columbia River. Nice pub menu & happy hour pricing. Relaxing & a great view. Service is very good & friendly.

Food was fantastic ordered a burger and husband had pulled turkey. Food was yummy hot and fresh. Ordered a Caesar on happy hour time before we came and came in the world’s smallest bowl. Kids loved the chili dogs. Nacho was good as well. Only reason not 5 stars is service is a little slow both times coming to the table.

Pub food with a view. Service was lacking and a long wait for water. There people on the deck feeding the birds which attracted more ~ it would have been nice if staff stepped in and told them to stop. The shrimp cocktail was large and I would have preferred bigger shrimp and less, then the bay shrimp they provided. The shrimp were squishy. Nice view was the highlight!

Only because it’s on the water. Service rates a 4? The food is a 2

while the atmosphere is really fun and being on the water is a treat b/c Portland doesn’t have a lot of restaurants that are on the Columbia, the food we ordered was meh — mostly fried and deep fried… and the drinks ok. The service was great and very friendly and helpful but if you are really hungry and hankering for quality healthy food, I’d recommend someplace else.

This place is a solid 3 star restaurant. A friendly atmosphere, decent food with a pretty good selection of both yummy greasy bites and healthy salad options. It’s literally on the water and they have plenty of outdoor seating for those beautiful summer days. They also have plenty of indoor seating if you want to admire the water from afar. Nice attentive staff, great location.

Great little place on the Columbia river, not on the bank, but floating on the river. Happy Hour everyday til 6pm. Food is generally good, I have tried everything on the menus.(both happy hour and regular) Staff is busy for such a small place, the view is awesome.

I love this place. The food is… well, I haven’t had it. but, it doesn’t look like anything exciting. The drinks are… nothing special, but not bad prices for HH. The service is pleasant, and quick. But you’re drinking on a houseboat! It’s so fun! There are few places I would rather have a gin and tonic on a sunny day, than at the Deck, watching the Columbia float by. It’s not a secret though, so expect it to be busy, with maybe even a waiting list on those perfect summer days. And, hey, maybe if you’re lucky(if I’m lucky) I’ll meet someone with a boat, and then we can be friends, and then I can have my next gin and tonic on their boat instead of at The Deck… Just kidding! I’d still come to The Deck.(but I would still like a friend with a boat).

Atmosphere, Service, w/great food and drinks! My wife and I went in on a very warm Friday night and they were slammed yet it didn’t slow down the staff or effect their excellent smiles and attitudes. In fact the owner was there and elbows deep into all facets of the service. She took the time to stop by and chat with us for a few minutes and what a sweet lady! Great times, just found our new favorite spot:-) Thx staff at the Deck, Wayne & Michelle

A friend invited a few of us and reserved 2 tables for 4pm — 7 of us came. We had a couple of drinks each — a mix of happy hour snacks and a meal. Service was average until the first 2 friends left and then an elderly lady came and began cleaning up one end of the tables as she made it quite clear she wanted us to leave(not spending enough?). She wanted us to know the tables were reserved until 7pm — it was 6:45…from that point on it was a series of questions and comments that totally shut down and good vibes going on and we couldn’t pay the last tab quick enough to leave. You can get that kind of backhanded negative attitude in at least a dozen other places — no need to come back here for that!

Laid back. Nice patio. Decent food. Great service! With how busy it was the staff was upbeat, fast and got our orders perfect. I’ll be back for sure!

My cousin had his windows smashed and his laptop stolen from his car in the marina parking lot. You can’t see the parking lot from the restaurant below so it’s perfect for thieves, and apparently this is a recurrent problem there. That said, food lousy, drinks good, view fabulous.

I feel like you’re paying lots of money for food from the freezer isle from Winco. I realize this is right on the river, but so is Puffin Café & they have delicious food. Went here for my mother-in-law’s Birthday. She ordered a sandwich & I ordered a burger. Both were terribly dry. We always got some shrimp appetizer, it was pretty much all shredded lettuce & hardly any shrimp. We got lucky & got a table almost right away. They were super, super busy, but we had the best waitress ever! I’m really picky about my drinks being refilled in a timely manner. In 90+ degree weather our waitress never let our glasses go empty! We sat close to the inside of the place & I watched all the servers work(as we waited forever for our food) The servers here work their asses off! All seemed friendly & working together. They were the only pleasant part of eating here.

This is place is the worst. Leaving hungry and heading to Island Café. The wife and I ordered the $ 15 burger with salad, a turkey slider with salad, 1 watered down shot of Patron and 1 regular Patron, the Lynchburg drink and a Margaret. $ 56 still hungry! Won’t Be back.

We hit the deck and so glad we did! It was the first day of summer here in Portland(July 5th to be exact). I just had to celebrate that and go somewhere that looks like a day in the life of a vacation. There’s fancy boats about and fish and chips and ducks. and drinks with umbrellas. We got there inbetween a rush so it was very peaceful looking out at the water under our umbrella watching the sailboats float by. They are separated from the main waters as this restaurant is located the same place as a group of houseboats. You can still feel the wake though when some of those big/fast boats fly on by. They have a happy hour and we ordered their shrimp cocktail for starters and a margarita for 5.00. The shrimp were fresh and there were plenty of them. Their cocktail sauce is loaded with horseradish which works for me. I then ordered the ahi caesar, dressing on the side. The greens were not the light crunchy green but were a mix. There was not an obnoxious amount of parmesan cheese and the dressing on the side controls the sometimes overzealous. Ahi was cooked perfectly and it was a good size. I had to have another drink and this time I had the pomegranate margarita. All in all, a decent spot with a decent food menu, on a decently wonderful sunny day.
