This rating is for the Optometry Shop/Store. I was referred here by our insurance, for son who needs glasses. When I walked in, there was a line of 3 people needing to check-out after their appointments, while the receptionist argued with a confused elderly gentlemen insisting he didn’t have a co-pay. Neither of the two staff so much as looked up as we walked in, or acknowledged anyone else in line. Generally, a «Just a minute,» or something. One woman interjected asking if she could just go back to the store to peek at the glasses, at which point I followed. It was a tiny-tiny-tiny room. Big enough for the sales-woman and one-patient. I poked my head in, as the woman ahead of me was called in to her appointment. Noting the tight squeeze, we waited in the hallway. FORTY-FIVE minutes go by, as we listen to the saleswoman babble about forest, fire-fighting, how she’d worked there so long she never counted how many years, etc. Even the patient had to excuse himself for a bathroom break. In these 45 minutes, we’re waiting in between the patient rooms, the staff walks by us numerous times, the doctor, and the saleswoman can hear me desperately trying to entertain my kids, and not one person asks if we need help, nothing. NOTE, I have a 2 and 4 year old — they knew we were there! Anyone whose had to keep two kids under the age of 6 in a chair longer than 15 minutes can understand this! Two people join the line behind us. The second she finishes with the patient, she looks at the two people waiting behind me(who’d been there less than 5 minutes) and says, «I’ll be with you in a minute» Seriously?! 45 min, and you didn’t even acknowledge my presence! Then she tells me she has to finish the prescription for another patient who is «here,» referring to the fact I was a walk-in customer. Then she tells me they don’t fill outside perceptions. I was outraged! Almost an hour goes by, and 30 seconds worth of customer-service, would have prevented all of this, not to mention, they other two walk-in behind me received immediate attention. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

Dr. John Wilkins failed to properly diagnose an extremely serious eye condition in a friend of mine. She has now permanently lost the sight of one eye and may lose the sight in the other eye. He also performed cataract surgery on her about two years ago and the eye has not been«right» since then.

Dr. John Wilkins is one of the best optometrists in Portland and maybe even the world. I’ve been seeing him for over two thirds of my life and highly recommend him!

Today I had an eye exam with Dr. Chan. He did not introduce himself; he did not explain the tests he was conducting; he did not explain how my eyes had changed since the last exam; when asked if I could have contacts he did not really explain other than to say, no, I could not; he did not say goodbye, he just handed me my prescription and said that they had optical services on the premises if I wanted to get glasses there. He may may be an excellent eye doctor as far as medical expertise, but I intend to take my business to another clinic.
