Had a great Sunday Brunch. Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Highly recommend.

We visited the Heathman Hotel lounge during its jazz happy hour, with the pleasure of the company of two institutions in the Portland music scene. Liberace’s conductor Bo Ayars, who worked with the showman for 13 years, and his wife, singer Barbara Gephart Ayars joined us in making plans for the Liberace Foundation over a light dinner. The warm lounge of the Heathman is adorned in wood paneling two stories high. A large fireplace warms. The deep colors feed the authentic, historic place which is beautifully preserved. Service was spot on, polite, expert, efficient with great personality to boot. The band, which Mr. and Mrs. Ayars explained is well-known in the area, showed us why. A very advanced jazz quartet, their performance could have captured any aficionado, but was also just the right volume to be background music for conversation. We ate from the lounge menu, rather than the full dinner menu, but were not deprived. The Stinging Nettle Risotto was unique, textured perfectly and had just the right embellishment of pork bellly. Others had duck liver skewers and salads which met with zealous approvals. The cocktails were perfect, although I did send back my first gin and tonic brought in a high ball rather than a tumbler(no straws for grownups please). The Heathman Hotel Restaurant successfully brings together authentic legacy architecture, classic jazz and the most advanced menu and service,. Well done.

We decided to go downtown for brunch on Sunday, the food was good(we both had the dungeness crab omelettes) but the service was terrible, and they weren’t even busy. Maybe my expectations were too high for this place, but I left really disappointed.

Elegant and traditional with excellent quality tea and high tea food. The«gentleman’s club» feeling is a perfect setting for the Afternoon tea experience. Especially nice near the holidays.

It’s so hard for me to write this review(tea time only) because my husband and I had SUCH high hopes for it! After missing the ‘holiday’ boat for tea time between November and January, we decided to reschedule for Valentine’s day weekend. We made a reservation(as is recommended 48 hours in advance), and showed up about 10 minutes early. I had thought it would be very packed and busy — and to a certain extent, the bar area was, but definitely not the tea time area. We waited and waited. We weren’t really instructed to do much besides blob up in a mish-mash line along the ramp outside of the tea room. Eventually people were called one by one and sat down. 9 tables in all.(and about 9 more open during the 2pm sitting). Two servers total. In theory this should be a reasonable divide of servers to tables, you’d think. Wrong. We waited nearly 30 full minutes just to get tea. Just HOTWATER and leaves. I’m lost as to what the incredible delay was here. Again, 9 tables, 2 servers, and a half-hour delay for tea? Shouldn’t there be some sort of large carafe with hot water in the back ready to go? not to mention this is NOT their first rodeo at the Heathman… they have tea time every single day. I don’t understand. We waited another solid 10 minutes for our tea time snacks. It was a variety of savory and sweet. The sundried tomato deviled eggs, goat cheese cracker, and chicken salad flatbread were all delicious. Scone was great too but very sweet. The banana bread was forgettable. And the sweets(housemade marshmallow, chocolates, and peanut butter) were overly rich. It was definitely a good amount of food, and the presentation on a 3-tier tray was quite nice. But again, we waited nearly an hour for it. Thank goodness the hot-water-refill guy was on point. He showed up at our table more than anyone else. Oh, and did I mention the screaming children running around upstairs on the second level constantly leaning over the railing upstairs and yelling at each other? UGH. The mood was completely ruined. All in all a terrible experience. From the disorganization to the wait to the ruined atmosphere, I can’t believe we paid over $ 60 for this… wouldn’t recommend it at all.

Came here for tea for my birthday. We were ridiculously early, since we are visiting from out of town and I have no clue how long it takes to get anywhere. The room where we had tea is just exquisite, and reeks of class and taste. I am sometimes not classy, so if you are with me, wear fancy clothes so you don’t feel too out of sorts. I had a young lady(6 years old) with me and they sat us by the fire in a lovely banquette. The wait staff was incredibly patient as my tea time companion asked questions about the entire menu and then she ended up eating most of my food. They brought the most delicious flourless chocolate cake for my birthday and when we asked about the sun dried tomato eggs, they explained how to make them and then packed extras for us to take home. It was a delightful experience and worth every penny.

Christmas Dinner. It was chaotic in the restaurant/hotel bar. The Christmas buffet closed at 6pm which was not clear in their advertising as several in our party wanted to try it, but our reservation was at 6:30. They told us upon arriving that the buffet was already closed. Service was great! John made every effort to be friendly and cater to our party. I will say the one drawback to our party was that we wanted to add a 6th person and were told we could not, however our table could have sat a 6th easily. I would go again, but not in a hurry to rush back.

Have been here about a dozen times for breakfast/lunch and received great food and service majority of the time. One star off because service can be hit-or-miss if more than half the restaurant is full. Food is amazing and is primarily the reason I keep coming back. Try the chorizo scramble and biscuits & gravy during breakfast — fantastic! Though, would highly recommend avoiding peak times for the above reason.

Surprise afternoon high tea at the Heathman Hotel. How delightful was that? We did the traditional tea menu($ 32 per person), which included: — Pot of Tea(your choice) — Smoked Salmon Hash Profiteroles — Chicken Salad Pita — Goat Cheese Crostini — Classic Cucumber Sandwich — Sun-dried Tomato Deviled Egg — Heathman Scone — John’s Maui Banana Bread — Chocolate Feuilletine — Machu Picchu Chocolate Mousse — Lemon Tart — Devil’s Food Chocolate Tea Cupcake — Fresh Marshmallows rolled in powdered sugar The room was elegantly decorated and the open fire added a cozy touch to the overall experienced of the tea service. On top of that, the service was excellent and very friendly. I hope you give this afternoon high tea place a try. Cheers!

I love the Traditional British Tea, i go every few years and it is always spectacular at Christmas time with the fireplace blazing and sparkling décor. The room is perfection with the magnificent mahogany walls and ambiance. I love the cucumber sandwhiches, chicken salad sandwiches, everything is delectable and very civilized. In this world where everyone wears wsweats, it’s nice to get dressed up. Services attentive and it’s always a busy event. Get your reservations well in advance. I also go to Alliance Francaise events here and have dined in the restaurant. THe Heathman never lets me down.

Not up to snuff for brunch on Saturday in the bar. Server seemed glib and distracted. The crab/mango salad tasted a little fishy and flavors could have been brighter. My friend’s English muffin came about ten minutes before her eggs. Disappointing. I’ll choose elsewhere for my next special occasion.

Disappointing. Had brunch there today and ordered the fish stew. First The stew was pretty watery and didn’t have the flavor you would expect. I mentioned it to the waiter and he ignored my comment. When I got the bill I noticed they charged me $ 32 for the stew. I had remembered the menu saying $ 24. The waiter brought me a menu saying $ 32. I pretty much remembered 24. But left it at that. Anyway. On our way out my sister asked the hostess and was given a menu with $ 24. When I mentioned what happened. She said oh that was ‘my mistake’ because they changed the menu. I had to ask for a reimbursement. Finally an assistant mgr came out with $ 8. Of course I paid a 20% tip on the entire bill. Not happy when i left fir a $ 90 lunch.

The dessert was tasty but the service was the worst I have ever experienced. Five tables and our waitress could hardly keep up. Waited 10 minutes to see her and 20 more to pay the bill.

We went here after doing a 4T hike on Thanksgiving and wanted to have a warm Spanish Coffee or something. I had a Spanish coffee and my boyfriend had a Chocolate Nudge. We split a flourless chocolate dessert. It was all very good. I didn’t like the coating on the glass though. Service was a little slow, but there were a lot of people in the bar area… so we were patient. It was a great place to stop before taking the train back up to the zoo. A special little treat.

So my father and I were taken here for lunch this summer and were both sadly disappointed. I had a burger because most of the entrees were rather expensive, which is to be expected at a place like this. My dad got an open faced Croque Monsieur type sandwich which was made of a bead so crusty he could barely cut through it with a knife and fork. Now my father is no invalid and can normally handle some crusty bread, but this was ridiculous. He wound up picking up the thing with his hands and eating it but that proved a bit messy. What kind of a chef would design such a sandwich? One who doesn’t actually try to eat it perhaps? My burger looked promising and I was expecting something special from the Heathman, as I’d had a fantastic dinner here about 14 years ago. The burger was dry, bland and had extremely lackluster condiments. I regularly get better made burgers from dive bars out at Foster Powell. I don’t see how a place like this could make such a boring monotonous burger with such a great kitchen at its disposal? It was a chore to eat and I regret not getting a salad. Our friend who took us got some grilled Salmon and that look pretty good and he seemed happy. but my dad and I will not be returning!

I made reservations for brunch because sometimes brunch is a big deal and sometimes you have to wait a long time. That didn’t happen. My over planning got us seated immediately and I’m sure the semi-empty restaurant helped. My friend and I opted to sit outside. I got a cappuccino and told my friend, «this reminds me of the cappuccinos I had in Naples.» He thought that was a good thing until I continued, «it’s not bad but it was from a machine at my hotel.» Let that settle in, it could be take either way. He ordered the Broadway punch and it came with purple foam and in a tea pot. I didn’t try it but it looked interesting. Entrée wise, I ordered the blueberry pancakes because I was craving pancakes and for $ 11 for nothing but pancakes, I was expecting a lot. My friend got the eggs, bacon and potatoes. Here is where things get from sad to worse. My pancakes came much darker than typical pancakes should be. I looked past it. I took a bite. It didn’t taste that good but it was ok. I lifted the two top pancakes to discover a burnt bottom one. It tasted burnt. I don’t usually send food back but I did. The waiter apologized and got me a new order immediately. My friend is eating his food, happy as a clam and I’m stealing his potatoes because I’m hungry. My new pancakes arrive and they are perfectly golden. I cut into the top ever so slightly and they are completely raw. Not a raw in some parts but so raw you could still mix the batter. I sent it back again and opted to not even bother with anything else. The saving grace of the whole debacle was our server, Andrew. He was so sweet and apologetic. The Heathman has one thing going for them, great service… the potatoes were pretty good too.

The Eggs Benedict were so bad I may never eat them again! Water soaked muffin, what tasted like packaged Hollandaise Sauce(No flavor of egg, butter or lemon) and a badly poached egg. I am so disappointed, but it isn’t run by The Heathman, it is a Landry Inc run food service… just like Jake’s — another place to pass on!

This is specifically for the afternoon high tea. FANTASTIC service and an eclectic mix of sweets and fare. I highly recommend the Broadway Punch if for the presentation alone(although it also tastes great). We look forward to going back for the special holiday tea menu!

We were looking for a Sunday brunch in downtown Portland and remembered that this is one of the places Anthony Bourdain went, so we gave it a try. I am so glad we did because this place is amazing! Our server was incredible and the service overall is terrific! The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. We had the French Toast with bacon and the chicken sausage omelette and it was to die for(see my pictures). If you are downtown and want something wonderful to eat, check this place out.

This review is solely for their afternoon tea service. I hate comparing apples to oranges but I’ve been to tea services in London and there’s just no comparing. I do appreciate that the Heathman is one of the very few places in portland that offers this service, I just wish they would put more effort into it. The tea sandwiches were dry and plain. The sweets didn’t seem like something that was fresh from the kitchen. More like store bought. I went once and that was enough for me.

My husband and I came here on a date night. It was so peaceful with music playing in the background. I love how the service was excellent the wait staff was on top of it. We had the Rabbit which was apart of their dining month special and also their steelhead. Everything from the beginning to the end was so tasty. We will definitely frequent this place more often during date night. They had a drink that was called 50 shades which was inspired by the book. This definitely satisfied my 50 shades :) Gonna come back soon and try their high tea :)

Landry’s owns The Heathman. I would really like to give this restaurant five stars. The service is impeccable, A-1, stellar, and outstanding. However, to be honest, i’m not sure what happened last night food wise. I got this bright idea to valet park the car and have dinner at the Heathman with my family before the symphony. We arrived for our dinner reservation a little early and we’re seated in a lovely little corner table, where we could enjoy dinner, have some privacy, and lovely conversation. Our server Gabriel was amazing. Very kind, engaged with all of us and knew his way around the menu. Now — I have to admit I am not a huge fan of French food. The flavors are not as lovely on my palate as they might be on others. I’m not a fan of sauces and at the end of the day it’s just not my thing. I wasn’t very smart when selecting a restaurant because I didn’t do my homework like I usually do so I walked in with no expectations other than this was the Heathman. I began with a New York strip steak, another in our party ordered the salmon, and my son ordered a fish stew. My steak was incredibly tough and chewy regardless of how thinly I sliced it. I also felt the sauce was overly seasoned and way too salty. My family seem to be happy with their choices. This is where the Heathman stands apart from other restaurants in Portland. . The moment my server realize there was a problem he was there with solutions to correct the issue. He spoke to the chef on my behalf to ask about the steak and they were honest and said the steaks that they served at the Heathman were going to be a New York strip steaks and would be like this. What I’d like them to create something else for me. I chose the pork tenderloin which was tender, lovely, and just right. For dessert we ordered coffees, tea, as well as lemon curd and ice cream. The manager came to the table — at least I think he was the manager and was just so very kind, considerate and accommodating. I actually felt bad sending my food back and complaining :) And at the end of our meal they discounted our meal which I did not ask for. The only thing I would have requested was that they did not charge me for steak that I felt wasn’t edible. Will I give the Heathman another try — absolutely. I know going in the front door what to order and what not to order. And by far the hospitality and Service were stellar. The symphony was also delightful as well:)

I went for high tea, and it was an experience! First of all, the interior décor is beautiful and so are the table settings. Second of all, the servers and hostess were so very kind and accommodating. They were able to answer any and all questions we had about the food. Third and most importantly, the food tasted complex and delicious. The assortment was unique, and light but filling. The vanilla tea I had was really aromatic and refreshing. The only downside is that you can’t split the food with anyone and that it’s quite pricy. I guess it’s all for the experience!

High tea with a dear friend and colleague. I wanted to make her feel special for her birthday… She loved the entire experience, we shared a lot of giggles and had a lovely time. The tea was delicious I had the gunpowder and my friend had the citrus nectar(I think that was it) it smelled complex and different we both really enjoyed our choices. The food was delightful — watercress cucumber sandwiches, things I can’t pronounce, sun dried tomato deviled eggs, goat cheese crostini, chocolate mousse cups and lemon tarts… my favorite taste was the whipped butter and marrionberry jam on the scone. Wow it was really tasty. I read other reviews complaining about how it’s not authentic«high tea». To that I say«who cares»! It’s an elegant atmosphere, everyone is there to have a little treat and a nice time, the servers were helpful, pleasant and very attentive. Seems like a perfect place to celebrate something special or to simply have a nice afternoon with someone you care about.

Typical upscale hotel restaurant. Nothing to rave about. I ordered french toast, side of ham and fruit. My fruit didn’t look very fresh nor was it very tasty… and for $ 9? Ugh. My friend’s mimosa glass still had lip marks on the edge. Ugh. My friend had the eggs benedict. Again, nothing to rave about. Service and staff were fine. Not overfly friendly… just did their job.
