I find myself slowly becoming a regular here. This is the one spot I come for lunch and a beer on a bad day. All the staff are wonderful, Ariel the Bartender is my absolute favorite though. The fact that they donate to local causes(I.e. The Cupcake Girls) is absolutely amazing and their good food is just a bonus. Their food is absolutely fabulous. I highly suggest this place!

The hamburger featuring Oregon Angus beef was so flavorful. The meat was so full of flavor you might have forgotten you were just eating a burger. Throw on a little beer cheese fondue and bacon and all is right in the world. Oh, and this is a non-profit business. All of the money that would normally be money on the pocket of the owner goes to one of 6 or 7 charities of your choosing.

I’ve only been here once and it was a lovely experience. Decent tap list, the menu looked really tasty and service is friendly. They’re a non-profit business which I think is awesome. It gets busy in the evenings, especially when the weather is nice. Highly recommend stopping here and grabbing a seat outside.

We tried to get a table at the Oregon Private House but it turns out that it was just a person’s house and they didn’t have extra tables for strangers from out of town. So instead we came here and donated money to beer-funded causes. I didn’t get to decide which cause we donated to, but knowing my lady and her sister, I am guessing it was the animal one. Probably not the sex industry worker one. But I guess you never know. The food here was good and the beers were also good. I liked everything a lot. They closed a little earlier than I was hoping for on a Friday, but I guess when you are a non-profit you always have an excuse, like a Farmer’s Market the next morning or maybe you’re building a house for Habitat for Humanity the next day and you have to wake up early. I didn’t go to the bathroom here so I don’t know how they were. I had two large beers so this is actually kind of interesting to me. Perhaps non-profit beers do not make you have to go to the bathroom. I am unsure. Can anyone corroborate this?

It is not often that I thoroughly enjoy myself alone(business traveler) in a bar/pub/eatery/etc, but i can truly say that The Oregon Public House was a well-worth stop in my travelers. Let’s address the concept… a not for profit gastropub(I feel so trendy using that word!); it makes you feel good that you are helping others. A $ 5 beer? I can pay just as much at other«for profit» places, so don’t be afraid of the pricing. I asked the bartender for her favorite charity and we were off to the races. The beer selection was great! Some hoppy, some malty, so all good there. I got the Marmaza Cherry Blossom Saison and it was OUTSTANDING! Smooth and so tasty! Loved it. And because I loved it, I had two. I would have had more, but that driving thing got in the way. The atmosphere was great. The bar and seating areas were clean. The music(it was the bartender’s mix) was outstanding as well. I enjoy my conversations with the bartender and just observed everyone else quietly. So go for the beer, stay for the atmosphere(and a 2nd beer) and leave knowing that you contributed to a worthy cause.

The bartender told my friend to watch his language bc they are a family friendly place. So you’re saying my language might offend somebody’s brat? A. Who in their right mind brings a kid to the pub and gets offended bc people are cussing? B. There were ZERO kids anywhere around when the bartender complained.C. Maybe people’s kids and their shrill yelling offends me when I’m trying to imbibe in peace. And D. Who in their right mind brings their kids to an pub and get offended bc people are cussing? Yes I did write that last one twice. It bore repeating.

A perfect place to hang out on a beautiful day. Great food, perfect beer! … And the best part is, you get to pick a charity to where you want your check total to go too… That is awesome! This place has me a fan for life!

What is not to like? Local brews on tap, neighbor bar, good food and it is all nonprofit, supporting a rotating list of local charities. Not sure which brew to get? They’ll let ya taste a few to help make your decision. Order at the bar, pick you charity, get your number and find a seat. There is good seating outside on those sunny days. Or, sit at the bar. It is a beautifully crafted piece of local wood. The bar stools were hand made too and are a unique way to repurpose a downed tree. Remember, this is the first nonprofit pub ever, so clean up after yourself, help keep costs low and donations high. You can always volunteer too!

I like Oregon Public House but the service isn’t very good. Twice, they habe forgotten to put in an order for someone in our party and we waited a very long time, assuming the meal was about to come out. The food, drinks and atmosphere are good, so it is usually crowded. Because it is a self –seating restaurant, there is no way to wait for a table and no indication of how long it may take. The beer cheese fondue is delicious!

Funny, but when you are donating to a great cause, it makes it easier to swallow. The Oregon Public House is a non-profit, gastropub, offering a nice selection of tap beers and a menu that was pleasing to our designated driver. Choose your brew, choose your charity, and drink up buttercup, because you just did an honorable thing. Cheers to a great cause. Prices were reasonable, atmosphere was relaxing, and staff was happy to serve us. It was a win win situation.

How can you not like this place? The first NFP pub of its kind? I am in, you guys. My boyfriend is a reuben guy, and we went here for the first time last weekend to check their reuben out based on a recommendation. We weren’t disappointed! The meat to bread ratio was good, and the sauerkraut wasn’t skimped on either! The range of beer options is nice as well, and we both were able to snag a brew of our choice. I was so enthused by our experience, I decided to drag his butt back here yesterday for our Sunday outing. I love this place! Keep doing what you’re doing.

Drinking and driving don’t mix, but drinking and giving does at the Oregon Public House. This local Portland nonprofit combines two of my life’s most important missions into one evening of drunk donating. *hic* … scuse me barkeep, can I get another *hic* charity over here? The food was pretty blah pub grub(Cheese Fries, Chicken Wings, and Bratwurst) while the 11 beers and 12 wines available were also just 3 stars. What raises the Oregon Public House to fan-status, is the fact that it is a «public benefit nonprofit.» There is no «owner.» Instead, a board of volunteers manages the Oregon Public House without any pay, stipend, or salary. Employees are paid, but otherwise profits go to charities. In fact, when you pay for your food or beer, you get to choose which of 6 current non-profit organizations benefits from your bill. Most of us don’t need an excuse to drink, but, at least, the Oregon Public House gives us a purpose to drink. By the end of the night, your philanthropy goggles will make even the most radical charity look attractive. Best of all … you’ll have no regret to go with that hang-over the next morning.

Great charity options abound. Food is always on point and yummy. Beer selection is top notch and a diverse selection. The kids play area could use a little cleaning and sprucing up. That’s my only«complaint», but we really love this place.

Our group had a great experience on a busy weekend evening. Place your order at the bar, choose your charity [1] and then food and drinks are delivered to the table. Even though it isn’t traditional table service, staff checked in regularly to refill water and make sure everything was in order. We ordered a variety of items of the the small menu: cheeseburgers, garden burgers, fish & chips and polenta with lemon paprika grilled chicken. Serving sizes are moderate, not enormous. Probably the most popular item at our table was the Beer Swiss Cheese Fondue with pretzels. Those were served piping hot and disappeared immediately. We were looking for a casual place to take out-of-town guests that would be «Portland-y» without huge lines and good for all ages. OPH definitely fit the bill. [1] OPH is Oregon’s first non-profit pub, so as part of the ordering process, you choose from a handful of local charities to direct where your money will be donated.

Well, if you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, don’t go here. The veggie burger is pretty terrible. I even had my boyfriend try it and he’ll eat just about anything and neither one of us could actually swallow what we bit. It’s a very strange taste with chunks of mushroom sticking out everywhere. Comes with a side of teriyaki sauce which was odd. I felt guilty for having to throw the entire burger away but there was no way I could eat it. The cheeseburger my boyfriend got was at least edible but I guess he wasn’t too thrilled with it. Subpar at best. The fries were good. I wouldn’t go back but there might be some redeeming entrees on the menu. It has a good overall review for a reason I’m sure. I just didn’t enjoy it at all.

I went here with some friends this past Saturday and waited about 25 minutes for a table, no reservations. This place is on the small side and was packed for the entirety of our meal. They had some great beer selections, a lot on tap, and our server was well informed and helped us make our choices. We tried the garlic doughnuts, fried pickles, burgers, and the meat pie of the day. The apps were so-so, not very flavorful and the burger was standard. I wasn’t wowed. The meat pie was a large portion with lots of pulled pork in it, but it too lacked flavor and salt. I wasn’t disappointed, merely content. I probably won’t go back.

Wait, a non-profit tap house? Well ok we are in Portland! We live across the river in Washington but we have come to wet our parched lips here numerous times. They have the standard Portland beer selection, FREAKINGKILLER. They have a great menu and the food is good. The best thing is that when you pay your check a portion goes to one of many charities in Portland, the bonus is you get to pick which one. They are very kid friendly and our Kidos come along are not disappointed. You get to help out by bussing your table and getting your own water. Hey a little more exercise to fill up those Fitbit steps! We will be going back and the last time we went we brought our friends.

This was an impressive establishment. I had the cheeseburger with fries and it was respectable. Food probably worthy of 3 stars but the extremely friendly waitstaff, an amazing beer list, and the fact that everything goes to charity bumps it up to 4 stars in my book. I was shocked to see they had a vertical bourbon county stout on tap. This was a great low key spot for a bite to eat, and feels great to help support a charity. I will definitely be back.

This was the first place I’ve had a proper meal in Portland, Oregon. To start off, we got the sweet potato tots. They are to die for. The sauce is amazing. Try. It. For my meal I ordered the Reuben with fries and it was AMAZING. There was even a cheese stretch coming off the sandwich as I bit it. It was very dense in meat. No slacking there. My party donated to boxes of love i believe. It’s amazing to be able to donate to charity just by having a meal. If you are looking for somewhere unique to visit, come here. The atmosphere is warm and caring while being everything you’d expect a pub to be.

The Oregon Public House is a fun and friendly location that makes donating to charity as easy as ordering a pint. Visiting Portland for a convention, I was in charge of finding a place that could handle all 12 of my staff for dinner. I called ahead and the staff was very helpful to reserve a spot for us. The neighborhood surrounding the pub is charming, some out-of-towners not used to city living might think they took a wrong turn, but rest assured you came to the right place. Don’t be fooled by the smiling volunteers who might come by your table to pour you some water and explain the menu. The pub is «self serve» in the sense you need to place all your drink and food orders at the counter. The decoration is bright, with lots of art on the walls. It’s a very pleasant atmosphere. The pub has a great selection of craft beers, and I was glad to see many local examples available. My table ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees, and everyone in my party was very happy with the selection. The crème brûlée dessert was a standout for me. After a delicious meal and the option to choose which charity our bill would benefit, I did not mind in the least clearing off and bussing my own table. The Oregon Public House offers great food and drink in a pleasant and comfortable location in one of Portland’s many artistic neighborhoods. Don’t miss out!

This is a well-lit, family– and group-friendly place with a good amount of dog-friendly outside seating, a solid happy hour menu, rotating taps(cider and beer), and tasty seasonal fare. Growlers + growler fills available. Whoever was responsible for the interior and patio did a nice job, it’s quite inviting. I love the non-profit concept, too. Filling your belly and/or having a drink or two for a good cause is pretty genius. I’m pleased with the menu. Really tasty burgers, and they’re willing to replace buns with lettuce if you’re on the Paleo /GAPS /SCD /gluten-free side. I tried a seasonal dish with sausage and sauerkraut that was lovely, very flavorful. If you have a hankering for tots, try them here — they come with banana rum ketchup, I think? Yum. Dessert here is a real treat. The gluten-free Blondie with ice cream is off the hook! The brownie holds up, too. But my favorite is the crème brûlée with berries — it’s a shame you can’t take it home, but it comes with the territory. Last I saw, they were offering a Framboise Lambic ice cream float — if you’ve never had one, they’re delicious. One minor gripe is that most of their sauces(ketchup, mustard, etc.) are off-limits for me, as I’m a bit sensitive to food additives. That’s hardly atypical, of course, so not something that affects my rating. I live close enough to bring my own if it’s THAT big of a deal. Although it’s not my bag, I believe you can watch sportsball here.(Please forgive the non-specificity.) This is a bus-your-own-table venue, so please be conscientious and help out the great staff. Nice folks here!

Kind of meh on this place. I really love the idea. The crafted beverages and the ordering system isn’t really as wackadoodle as people have said. Had the pretzel with cheese. It was good but not the best pretzel and cheese I’ve had. What really got me though was the hipster family’s with kids drinking booze and playing around. Kids don’t bother me, I’ve got one but brass tax, it’s a lot of kids at a bar. Just weird. I like the thought but the self serve, get up and order, bus your own table with kids around for charity just doesn’t seem like my thing. Don’t get me wrong if your looking for local brews, family place to have portland-ish food for charity? Then this is your jam but not mine.

By far one of the best places to eat and drink with friends while doing good for the community! Love the atmosphere and the fact that they have volunteers from the non profits that are asking for donations makes it feel like your beer binge isn’t just giving you a hangover tomorrow but also changing the world a little :) oh and did I mention that the food was great! I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by anything they’ve served food wise, ever. Too bad there’s no place like this in Hawaii, because it would be one of my Pau Hana places real quick.

Still awesome and the cider selection is way better ! Loving the new version of their spinach salad and the reuben is the best in Portland. Nice that they make their own veggie burger patties(delish) and have great specials to boot. Nice volunteers working the place(my hubby volunteered there last summer and had a great time). Proud to have them in the neighborhood!!! (Now please get us some breakfast… that’d be awwwwesome).

What a concept! A non-profit pub. I’d always wanted to try these guys out, and we finally made it over there(from Beaverton). We ordered at the bar, then found a seat. We started with a pretzel fondue dish, coupled with an IPA. Really great stuff! The Swiss cheese was perfect. I paid only $ 8 for a Hawaiian-style chicken dish that was absolutely delicious. I swear you’d pay $ 14 anywhere else. I actually enjoy the concept of a restaurant that has no wait staff. I can walk right up and order something as I need to instead of waiting for someone to come to us. At the end of our meal, we happily bussed our table and paid our tab. Definitely will be back! NOTETOPARENTS: the play area is for LITTLE kids, ages 0 – 5. We brought our 6&8 year old sons, and they were disappointed that there was no wooden trains or other older kid toys to play with.

I thought I would save my 100th review for some place that I think is special. I can’t think of a place more fitting than the Oregon Public House. I have been here a handful of times and have been more than pleased each and every time. How can one bash a place that provides patrons a tasty selection of both food and beverages and then lets them donate to one of several local charities? Oregon Public House offers many different beers to choose from. If beer is not something that satisfies your pallet, they also always seem to have at least one hard cider as well as several wines. This place has a pretty decent happy hour. One of my favorite things on the menu is the soft pretzel; the cheese sauce is freaking delicious!!! I have also had the pleasure of sampling the vegetarian nachos. I adore that that put an entire jalapeño on the side of the plate! Also I think they add some of the same cheese sauce from the previously mentioned pretzel. Yum! Not that I make a habit of doing this, but I also was able to get a vegetarian version of the reuben sandwich made for me. What can I say, I’m a sucker for sauerkraut. This is something I will defiantly be ordering again. The service here has always been great for me. Even if I have to wait a little bit when they are slammed I’m okay because this place donates 100% of their net profits to charity people! «HAVE A PINT, CHANGETHEWORLD!» Go on, I dare you!

This was the first place we went to after arriving in Portland and picking up our car. We did not know before hand that profits go to local charities. I think that is great. I had the Ballast Point Victory at Sea Porter(10%!) and it was close to phenomenal. Deep flavor, smooth, rich, just perfect. I paired it with a cheeseburger that was perfectly cooked and juicy. They did not say it was grass fed beef but it tasted like it. The wife got the garden burger and loved the strong mushroom flavor. It was very good for a veggie burger. I would go here again in heartbeat for the food and to support charities.

CONS: They don’t take orders at individual tables, orders are placed @ the bar. There’s only one type of sandwich bread(rye, ugh!) and no half or small option for salads. PROS: Great food, reasonable prices, up-and-coming neighborhood, outdoor seating; happy hour.
