Was having a blah day — until this guy cruised by! Thank you, Unipiper.

Just a note to say that Laurelhurst School loves The Unipiper! We hosted our annual fundraising auction in March, and the theme was«Portandish» so anything Portland… craft brewed beer, wine, organic food, tattoos, you get the picture. As one of the organizers I thought it would be fantastic to have a local Portland celebrity show up. On a whim, I wrote to The Unipiper(Brian) and asked if he would be willing to show up at our auction. The only caveat being that we needed it as a donation, since the budget to host the auction was miniscule. We were ecstatic when Brian agreed to come! He showed up early and rode around the parking lot where we were hosting our auction, which was perfect. The haunting bagpipe version of the Star Wars theme song beckoning guests in, while the flames gave an air of Portland weirdness that can’t really be beat. Best of all, Brian was willing to hang out and socialize with guests during our silent auction so that he could then«Pied Unipiper» everyone into the live auction an hour into the festivities. He couldn’t be a nicer person. Really impressed with Brian’s unique ingenuity and community spirit. Thank you Brian!(Can’t wait to try your new beer!)

You know you’re in Portland when… You see a guy in a Darth Vader mask riding a unicycle playing bagpipes. This exists. This guy has been at it for years. One day he’s Gandalf, the next he might be Santa, and sometimes good old Darth. You can hire him for events. He’s been all over the place. You hear him before you see him. He delights people old and young. That is, of course, if you don’t loathe bagpipes. But seriously, who could hate bagpipes? I guess a lot of people, but since he’s mobile, you don’t usually experience him for long. Oh yeah, and I shouldn’t neglect to mention that his bagpipes sometimes SHOOTGODDAMNFIRE. Yup. Flaming bagpipes. In character. On a unicycle. Long live the Unipiper. Thanks for Keeping Portland awesome.
