It is nearly 70 degrees today and all of Portland is excited for the arrival of Spring. My taste buds are still holding on to the hope that the beginning of spring(and the end of ski season…) will mean the return of the Urban Sugar truck to the Eastern Promenade. What could be better than fresh, warm doughnuts made beautifully and thoughtfully? Eating them AND taking in one of Portland’s most scenic vistas!!! That is possible when that beautiful truck parks on our beloved Eastern Prom! I can’t wait!

After a day of skiing, nothing can really beat the excitement of finding a donut shop at the base of the mountain. Located at the main lodge of Sugarloaf, Urban Sugar offers a variety of donuts. We ordered a bunch of different ones including oreo, peanut and sriracha, bam bam and lavender and earl grey. I love that they are bite-sized, allowing one to stuff as many different flavors as possible, while of course, being guilt free since you just exercised all day. Amirite? My favorites are Bam Bam, fruity pebbles cereal, and lavender and earl grey. So unique, so tasty. Do yourself a favor and get down the trail before 4pm, since that’s when the store closes. Also, expect a line since everyone has the same idea. I hear that they transform back to a food-truck in the summer.

MINIDONUTS! My group and I caught these guys post-skiing at Sugarloaf. The donuts cooking brought our attention to this place, and they were bomb! We got a set of 25, with 5 different flavors. –Bam bam, the fruity pebbles cereal and milk donut. –Oreo cookie –Peanut and sriracha –Candied bacon –Lavender and earl grey My favorite was definitely the lavender and earl grey, but bam bam was a close second! The peanut and sriracha was definitely strange… I don’t think I would try it again! Overall, BOMB donuts. Literally one bite per donut, which makes it even cuter. OBSESSED with these donuts, don’t think you can say no to them!

So happy one sunday summer morning this truck happened to be right across the street from my family’s rental house on the prom. Bought a box of doughnuts and they fell in love with them. Plus the serve tandem which is awesome. Really nice people too who sell them.

The food truck at Sugarloaf has the best donuts ever!!! I had the fruity pebbles topped version this morning and they were absolutely delicious! Also tried a cookie topped donut which was equally amazing. Good coffee too!!!

WHERETOSTART! This is no ordinary food truck! This totally retro and adorable food truck makes the cutest and most delicious mini doughnuts in Portland. I just discovered them this summer with my boyfriend while visiting the flea for all. I got the maple doughnuts and boy did they melt in your mouth. Even though it was a hot summer day these where awesome. My boyfriend got the 007 doughnuts. These small white cake doughnuts were topped with a sort of bourbon cream and a piece of chocolate covered bacon on top. The bourbon cream was done just right and wasn’t super overpowering. That same week we went back down to Portland from Gardiner just to get some more! This time we went with the cinnamon sugar donuts and they didn’t last five minutes! Yum! I do suggest hunting these guys down come spring… You won’t be disappointed!

These donuts were the best thing I ate in all of Portland. And I even went to Central Provisions.

There is not much else to say about this. The Bacon Maple glazed donut is to absolutely die for. There is nothing like it especially on a cold winter day after a long day on the slopes. The problem, that is what I go for every. single. time. I am not a doughnut kinda guy but when it comes to urban sugar I am a doughnut kinda guy. Look for the truck and eat it. You will not be disappointed.

Great little place to share someone donut holes with friends. I say that because they only sell these in 6 packs. Oh yeah and they don’t let you mix flavors, which is a real bummer. If they sold smaller packs or let you mix flavors it would’ve been 5 stars for me. These are best eaten right away as they are served warm and some of the whipped toppings will eventually melt. All in all these things are awesome, definitely pick some up if see them in your area.

An amazing addition to Portland’s dining scene! Made-to-order deliciousness, crafted with care, «donuts» somehow fails to capture what these little gems really are — haute cuisine from a food truck.

Great find! Gourmet donut flavors like the rooster which is peanut butter and siracha. All the donuts are fried fresh and not even slightly greasy. You can order 6 but they have to all the same flavor since they make the donuts per order to preserve freshness. They serve coffee and simply sugared donuts.

Stopped in this morning in Congress Square Park to grab a breakfast snack for my team at Maine Historical Society. Wanted something on the savory side and scored big time with the BLT mini donuts. Perfection = fluffy donut, tomato jam, candied bacon & microgreens… Luckily I shared some of my treats as I am now the most popular gal in the office ;) Also had a taste of a Bam Bam donut at Social Media Day @ TideSmart… incredible, fun flavor and presentation. Watch out waistline, I’ll be back to Urban Sugar again and again.

We discovered these guys when they began hanging out on the Eastern Prom a few weeks ago. Four guilty visits later and I’m just as impressed. Those donuts are small, but they pack in the deliciousness of any large«gourmet» style pastry anywhere. Plus, they’re made-to-order, making them warm, fresh and literally melt in your mouth. Being new to Portland, we love the growing food truck trend and UrbanSugar, along with a couple of others tends to be leading the way. The owners are warm and friendly making my experience here almost like being back home in Mississippi. If you pass this truck and pass them by, shame on you. Stop, live a little and taste the donuts!

Very friendly folks whipping up tons of delicious little donuts as you order them. The specialty flavors are fun(and delicious), but don’t pass up a bag of plain sugared. At $ 3 for a single order, you can’t really go wrong. My only issue is that they never park in front of my office. :D

I came to Portland for work and was guided to this food truck by a coworker. I live in DC so I have been to plenty of donut food trucks, but let me start by saying that this is the absolute best donut I have ever had in my life. Not only is this the best donut, but the people running the truck were VERY personable! The choices for donuts were unique and delicious. I tried the maple glazed with candied bacon(the 007!) and my coworker tried the lemon glaze with lavender buttercream(blue eyes). I will definitely be back to this food truck!

Yummy donuts and the price was super fair, especially since they were made to order and it’s my first warm donut. We’re really excited for the new menu! We had the C+C Cheesecake Factory donuts and they were the perfect treat to top off our afternoon in Portland. They have a dish of water outside the truck especially for dogs. We’ll remember to bring our furry friend next time.

I often wish that meals would more often be small bites of amazing food rather than a supersize load. Urban Sugar does this beautifully. They are decadent and amazing — and the smaller size helps reinforce the decadence. I can enjoy it and be happy without that lump of regret sitting in my stomach. The made to order donuts have a perfect crunch, the flavor combinations are amazing. «Rosie» is a gorgeous truck and Portland is lucky to have her!

If there’s one thing Portland, ME is becoming really exceptional at… it’s doughnuts. How grand is it that we live in a city that a foodie can have multiple«favorites» of one food? Depending on what I’m specifically craving, I now have several different options of delicious do-do’s to satiate my sweet-tooth. I didn’t think there was more room in my heart(or thighs) for anymore«favorite doughnuts in town»… and then I finally found, tried, and destroyed a box of Urban Sugar doughnuts. I will admit, until today I was slightly angry at Urban Sugar. It seemed every time I tried to find them, they disappeared. Perhaps, like unicorns, chupacabras, Neverland, and the Polar Express, they only exist if you believe. And until today, I was becoming more and more jaded about their existence. Then again, they’re a food truck. And food trucks are essentially Easter eggs. More often that not, despite the social media-driven world we exist in, you have to hunt to find food trucks regardless if they post their whereabouts and times on the internet. After spending two weeks trying to hunt Urban Sugar down, I gave up. Zooming down Spring Street today after lunch, guess who I see perched on the side of the road? The Urban Sugar truck. I pulled over in the nearest spot I could find(thank you to whomever left me 21 minutes on the meter!), ran up the street and asked the girl(wearing kick ass cat-framed glasses) in the truck«Are you still open?»(I know they close at 2pm; and it was 2:03). «We sure are,» she responded with a friendly disposition. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the one doughnut I wanted to try — the Ol Blue Eyes(«lavender cream, lemon glaze, and lavender honey»… which sounds like what breaking up with a beautiful hipster boy would taste like). They were also out of my second desired option, the Dark Citrus(«chocolate orange ganache with dark chocolate sprinkles»). So I went with options three and four: Pumpkin Pie(pumpkin pecan glaze with fresh whipped cream) and Rooty Tooty(mixed berry with cream cheese berry frosting). And… whoa… did my mouth have a party after trying them! Even just the basic doughnut(thanks, Urban Sugar, for the sample!) was delicious! So what makes these doughnuts special? Four reasons: 1) they don’t leave«sweaters» on your teeth(y’know, that weird grit/film?). 2) They’re spectacularly original in concept, and then translated into a beautifully executed product that feels fresh and homemade. 3) They’re small: and in this case, that’s a good thing; actually, it’s perfect. You get everything you want from your doughnut experience in one or two bites! 4) The owners — a husband/wife duo — are incredibly. I got the chance to speak with them, and they are invested in the community. Specifically, I was told they want to bring«true hospitality» to the food/beverage business that often uses that term(hospitality), but doesn’t always follow through with«the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers»(thank you Google for that definition!). I JUST met these people and I can tell you: these are genuine folks through and through.

After tasting Urban Sugar’s mini doughnuts at Brewer’s Fest I can confidently say that I am a fan. Warm, with the perfect consistency, these people know how to make a doughnut. I’m not a huge«doughnut» eater, but if I run into Urban Sugar again I’ll make sure to save some calories for their delicious sweets. Their donuts were definitely a highlight of the Brewer’s Festival(even-though we were there for beer!). The tiny little morsels are like perfection on your tongue and you have to convince yourself not to order anymore. After reading the other review I’ll definitely have to try the Ol’ Blue Eyes as I love anything with lavender. Cheers to you Urban Sugar, and I’ll be seeing you!

We caught Urban Sugar at the last Flea Bites event of the season(I believe it was one of their first nights out). Despite being so full(after already fitting in a post-dinner Bite Into Maine curry lobster roll snack) we couldn’t resist fresh donuts. They offer a variety of flavors, ranging from your standard powdered sugar topping to more adventurous flavors. I don’t know if they switch things up, but the offerings they had that night included: — Ol Blue Eyes: Lavender pastry cream, vanilla curd and nilla crumb — The Lucy: Something extremely chocolatey — Southern Sugar: Maple bourbon pecan topping with maple whip — Porky’s Revenge: Brown butter maple glaze, bacon jam and bacon dust — PB&J: Peanut butter dust, jelly fluff, peanuts They come in three sizes: single($ 5), double($ 7), and sugar rush($ 15). The plain sugar donuts run a little cheaper($ 3, $ 5, $ 12). We tried a single order of the Ol’ Blue Eyes, and received 7 mini donuts, beautifully decorated and soo fresh! I couldn’t taste much lavender, but that didn’t really take away from the overall experience. This was more than enough as a snack for two people. They were making everything to order, meaning the donuts were cooking as we spoke, which made for a tastier product than if they had been sitting there waiting to be frosted. The owners were very pleasant and didn’t rush anyone at all, despite the line that never seemed to die down. Their facebook page( ) is regularly updated with their current location, and they plan to be out both mornings and late nights. They seem to get out pretty early — today their page said they were open at 6am — and serve Tandem coffee, so this could make for a nice breakfast stop.
