I hate to give this local shop 2 stars but it really was nothing special. The only draw to it was the name — since some of my friends call me Izzy. The line was super long and there was only one person working which confused me. In a town like this where people are always around — eating, shopping and probably looking to end the night with a sweet treat in the summer why is there only one person working? By the time we left, the line was out the door. I ordered a very basic hot fudge sundae which was extremely over priced. I paid over 6 $ for what looked like one scoop of ice cream and it was served to me in a dixie bowl. It seemed like something I could have put together at a family BBQ. The fudge was really good and I enjoyed it, but like I said nothing special and certainly not worth the price. Maybe I’d come back for a small cone or a unique flavor, but can’t see myself spending over 6 $ for one scoop of ice cream again. Like the rating says, I’ve experienced better.

Wish there was a larger list of flavors. The mango sorbet tasted very artificial, as if it was made of a mango flavored syrup rather than any juice that actually came from a fruit. The Graham Central Station ice cream was delicious, as well as the Totally Turtle. Probably my favorite ice cream shop in Portsmouth.

We finished dinner and decided to go for ice cream stopped at this very convenient store in the hopping town of Portsmouth. Yay we walked in with no line… I can’t remember what kind of ice cream I got but it was a large delicious sugar cone. The servers were very pleasant and there were chairs to sit and enjoy our dessert.

Friendly staff, pretty good choice of ice cream but wanted the peppermint stick to have more flavor. But hit the spot and shorter line than place down the block.

Went in to get soft serve ice cream. But it ended up to be soft serve ice milk that was way too soft. Very disappointed. Signs outside say ice cream, but I guess they are referring to the scoop stuff, not the soft serve. Overpriced too, but they are in a high rent area I am sure.

Located on a fairly well traveled corner in Portsmouth, we have walked by many times and decided to try it on a Friday afternoon around 5 pm. There are usually a lot of people sitting outside eating ice cream and inside waiting to order but we «hit» it at a great time where there were no people inside or out. My friend went in first as I waiting outside with dogs… she quickly came out and said«they don’t have hard ice cream, just soft serve». She was confused by the signs directly in front of her and without asking the servers, she didn’t see the sign to her left which listed all of the hard serve flavors. Then we began reading the Unilocal reviews which mostly eluded to hard serve so she went back in and discovered the hard serve flavors sign but still decided on a chocolate soft serve based with berries mixed in. Hers was tasty but very soupy. By the end, it was softer than a shake. I decided on the regular coffee Kahlua brownie hard serve in a cup with a sugar cone on top. The ice cream had ample tasty brownie chunks, creamy and held it’s consistency until the very end. I’d give mine a 4 star and my friend a 3 for hers so really a 3.5 average. Prices were reasonable and we enjoyed this much better than our last experience at Annabelle’s right down the street.

Everyone knows about Izzy’s Froyo and Ice Cream. And the day I went I think they were all there waiting in line ahead of me. Cute little spot in the heart of the city. Lots of unique flavors. Young staff is friendly even in the hectic environment. A P-Mouth staple in my opinion. Not cheap tho…

I was sad to hear that Izzy’s doesn’t make their ice cream or froyo on premises — the girl at the counter informed me that it’s all made at a farm in Massachusetts then sent up to them. This isn’t that big of a deal, but when you come from a region of the world that is super hyper-local, it just came as a surprise to me that they a) weren’t using a New Hampshire farm, and b) didn’t even make their own goods. Anyway — there’s my two cents on that! The small space at Izzy’s always seems clean, and tends to have a steady flow of people coming in and out(especially on the weekend). So, be prepared to wait! The staff seems top notch, too: the last time I came there was one solitary employee handling a very long, demanding line. The people in front of us were very rude to her, but she handled it with grace and patience. Kudos to her! When it was my turn to order, per her suggestion, I got the German Chocolate Cake(which wasn’t even on the menu board). I’m glad I listened to her(and sorry for the rude fellow in front of me earlier who told her that ice cream«sounded disgusting» — he had no idea what culinary joy he missed out on!): it was a chocolate AND coconut flavored ice cream with glorious chunks of fudgey-brownie and pockets of ooey, gooey caramel, too. I seriously regret getting a small! My friend got the black raspberry and inhaled it within minutes — so, I know he loved his berry flavored dessert as much as I did mine. There’s plenty of flavors here that will tempt you to come back, too. Next time I might get some Graham Central Station(graham flavored ice cream with chocolate covered honey combs), Coffee Kahlua Brownie(coffee and Kahlua ice cream with hunks of real fudge brownies), Cake Batter(vanilla cake batter base with chunks of cake), Death by Chocolate(dark chocolate ice cream with a milk chocolate twirl, chocolate chips, and decadent fudge brownies), and Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel(caramel ice cream with lots of chocolate covered pretzels and a salted caramel swirl). What’s that, like, 5-scoops? Oh, it will be epic!

This ice cream is creamy and yummy! If your walking around and need a cold sweet treat this is the place to go. Decent pricing and a variety of flavors to choose from.

There’s a good selection of flavors, quick service and decent espresso. Get your ice cream and head for the patio(if there’s room); it’s an awesome place to settle down and get your blood sugar up.

I get excited every spring when Izzy’s opens back up for the summer! This is my fave place to walk downtown and get frozen yogurt. The blackberry chip is awesome and so is the Oreo! Yum.

We randomly stumbled upon Izzy’s as we were walking around Portsmouth and decided it was time for some ice cream. We picked the right place! Their ice cream is all handmade on a local farm and is fantastic. I went for a mix of the Purple Cow and Mint Patty froyos and my husband went for the«More Than a Reese’s» shake. Both were fantastic and super filling. The froyo didn’t taste like froyo(if I hadn’t known, I would have guessed it was ice cream) and both the froyo and shake were thick & creamy. YUM!

All I had was the coffee ice cream. The ice cream was pretty good. The only problem was there was only one person behind the counter and it took 10 – 15 minutes to get my single scoop of coffee ice cream. I’d give 4 stars if they had an express line. :-)

Great little spot. Nice owner. Menu would be better if there some info about ingredients or calories perhaps some light options. I had no idea if mocha latte was chocolate syrup or cocoa. No soy or fat free milk options appeared to be available.

I am in love with their death by chocolate ice cream. I am lactose intolerant and yet when I am craving really delicious ice cream, I will go here for a scoop of the best ice cream. Their prices aren’t bad either, for 2 ice creams. 1 a scoop and another 2 scoops, cost around 8 bucks. not bad at all for me. totally addicting. and yummy.

If you’re aimlessly wandering around being a tourist, it’s either you stop for coffee or ice cream break. I chose the latter. Try their sundae here, it’s just about how would make it. It filled my sweet tooth for me. Rats…a parking ticket(I can choose not to pay, but that means this California dude can never re-enter New Hampshire, or for that matter Maine, or for that matter Quebec in the future). This was an expensive sundae on a Sunday.

When roaming around P-smouth, ice-cream seekers(not familiar with the town) spot Izzy’s before Annabelle’s. She is situated on the corner of Bow St and has a cute little shop front — — - most would think, «Why look further?»(…those people can have Izzy’s, for all I care). *Every time that I’ve come here, there’s been drama. If it’s not the people in line(loads of tweens in Ugg’s and Coach), it’s behind the counter(I’ve actually witnessed two employees come close to swinging fists — really?). *A small assortment of flavors which may or may not be included on the flavors board(don’t expect to ask for a sample without having someone behind the counter roll their eyes) — but the taste is delightful(a good solid ice cream). *They DO make a good smoothie! If you’re an ice cream stickler, you may be best suited wandering down the ally to Annabelle’s. Izzy’s is good for ice cream fast, but I’m a sentimental gal. Fro-yo and Ice Cream connoisseurs — — - check out the ice cream down the ally.
