Who cares now… this place closed down last week! OUTOFBUSINESS! My overall review — basic diner food, out of a can or frozen(my best guess) — service with a smile ALWAYS and fun atmosphere! It was a good place for the kids(therefore the whole family). Bye Bye Chicken Pie… RIP

So sad they have gone out of business!!! Loved the chicken pies! If we had known I would have ordered a bunch to keep in the freezer!!! I liked everything I have eaten and the service was great! Pretty soon all that will be left are corporate chain food, yuck! The Chicken diner will be greatly missed!!! =(

So sad to hear its closing :(I wish everyone luck! The food is exactly what you crave on a cold day and the shakes are to die for. Wish I was able to make it out there for one last meal.

Don’t leave Poway without heading to this place. It’s a fun Rock n’ Roll era décor. All the food is tasty, but, I recommend the chicken potpie and the chicken noodle soup. You can even order some diner made frozen potpie’s to enjoy another day at home. Milk shakes are wonderful! I really enjoy Libby and Dawn, these girls have excellent costumer service.

Cool décor, peppy service, just OK food. I love the 50s diner décor but sadly was not a huge fan of the chicken pies and other fare. I loved the flaky crust and chicken but the gravy was a bit too starchy for me and thick as paste. The fried okra and mac-n-cheese weren’t bad but I didn’t enjoy my meal as much as I thought i would. I would definitely come back and try other items on the menu to hopefully change my mind and up the stars because I really wanted to love it here. But my heart still belongs to the Chicken Pie Shop in North Park. A-OK in my book.

went on a Groupon and didn’t realize it was half an hour from my home and well worth it. Pot pie is big chunks of chicken+gravy topped with julienne cut carrots+peas and a scoop of gravy over those. It was just delicious and the crust is awesome. The chicken tenders were tender, juicy, crisp and flavorful. The fried okra is obviously cut and fried fresh and not like I mind, but they weren’t slimy at all. The coleslaw is really tasty and there was a dinner roll it didn’t look special(looked old school) but it had good flavor. I’m not real big on fried foods but this was good… NOT heavy/greasy and NO old oil taste. I got the bakers ½ dozen(7 frozen pot pies) to go 20 $, threw them in my freezer and baked them for the family on fathers day!

Chicken Pie Diner SD: Poway 12pm Friday 12th April 2013 Four Stars Togo Order: 3 Chicken Pie Lunch Specials($ 6.99 each) — one with Fries, one with Cole Slaw, and one with Mashed Potatoes. The server was pleasant and helpful. The food came out relatively quick. We returned to the office and feasted on our pot pies. These pies were much different than all the other ones that I have eaten. It is just tender chicken meat and delicious gravy inside of a flaky crust with more gravy and peas on top. It was delicious! The coleslaw was not really mayonnaise-y or vinegar-y but very still tasty. The Fries and Mashed Potatoes were standard. Cannot wait to return.

This is an old diner in a stripmall. This is a 2 ½ star place because of the pot pie and mac n cheese. The chicken pot pie is smaller in size, so it’s not overwhelming. It was filled with chicken, and it was decent. The mashed potatoes were meh — very bland and the gravy was bleh. The fried okra was bland. The mac n cheese is good — the comfort, Kraft kind with an extra little sumpin’.

Seriously amazing home cooked comfort food! This is a wonderful family owned, American diner with very fresh tasting food. My dinner consisted of their homemade chicken noodle soup. Full of chicken breast meat and noodles and veggie’s. It was a delicious cup of soup. The chicken pot pie dinner was the tastiest chicken pot pie I think I have ever tasted. Smothered in homemade gravy, which I thought was very good, full of chicken breast meat and sliced carrots, peas and I think celery. My sides were«smashed» potatoes with more gravy and cooked corn with a little bit of onions and bell peppers. I think for the price it is a great value and delicious tasting meal. I ended the meal having a giant piece of their mud pie. Smothered in chocolate and caramel sauce with oreo cookie crust. One word, Sinful! Service was superior(at 4:50 pm) with friendly smiles and checking in at our table consistently throughout the meal. Very cool décor for the 60’s era enthusiast. Working jukebox at all the booths. I will definitely return to try other items on the menu and highly recommend that you try this diner.

My first time at the Poway location for Chicken Pie Diner, though I have been to the Chicken Pie Shop in Hillcrest and on EC Blvd way too many times. I liked the décor and it looked liked a great place for kids. Seemed a bit disorganized as far as who asked us for drinks, menus, etc. But made up for with a good attitude. Food? It is what it is. Comfort food. And if you like gravy, this is your place. They do it well. I will probably skip coming back but that is just that I think I am not as big of a fan of gravy.

This is a GREAT family place. Everyone that dined seemed to have been regulars as the staff seemed to know all of them by name. They treated EVERYONE, including us, like family. They played with my daughter and my daughter loved everyone there. and she’s six months old and starting to do that whole«stranger anxiety» thing. but she had no problem with everyone coming up to her and talking to her there. The food is pretty good too. they have a nice selection of various comfort foods and diner food. I got the salisbury steak and hubs got the turkey ruben with fries. My food was a decent portion, not too big, and not too small. I left feeling very satisifed and full(but not TOO full.). They gave me a side of green bean casserole and fried okra and I loved them both! We need to go and try their chicken pot pies because they looked really yummy. Can’t wait to come here again. I’d love for this to be a place that my daughter grows up eating at for a long time.

One of my best friends in the whole world asked me to grab some dinner and under no circumstances would I ever say no so we cruised up to Chicken Pie Diner in Poway. Styled in the old school diner style, I was looking forward to good old fashioned comfort food. Being Asian, I immediately noticed that we stuck out like a sore thumb in the joint and it was somewhat a shock to see so many obese Americans in one place. The food here would certainly be rib-sticking. We decided to share the chicken pot pie dinner, the turkey dinner, and an Oreo shake. Just from looking at it, I could tell that we were in for a pretty heavy experience and I was eager to dig in. Once I did however, I found both dishes to be very«one-note» since it was all slathered in the same white gravy. It was difficult to get a distinct flavor out of anything and left our little table quite disappointed. At least the shake was satisfying but I know it would all eventually end up on my ass. I really wanted to like this little diner but it fell quite a bit short of anything but mediocre. I hear the chicken pie place in Linda Vista is much better so I will be sure to give it a try next time. Food: 6⁄10 Service: 7⁄10 Price: $$ Atmosphere: 6⁄10
