I first learned about Mongolian cuisine in an episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman. Ever since, I’ve been dreaming to visit the country, and when I learned that there was a Mongolian restaurant in my area, I was psyched! When you walk into the restaurant, you feel as if you have walked into your grandmother’s house. It smells like slow-roasted meat, the décor is authentic, and you feel welcome. I started my meal with mutton buuz(Mongolian for dumpling) and a soup of lamb meat and noodles. The dumplings were so flavorful that I almost fell off the pillow I was sitting on! The soup was also very tasting, probably because it tasted very much like a slow roasted pig. When I was served my main entrées, I couldn’t keep my excitement. The chicken shashlyk was fall off the metal skewer tender, and it was perfectly spiced. And then, the restaurant’s special arrived… the Mongolian platter! Again, I couldn’t keep my excitement. And I can’t even explain my love for that dish in words. For dessert, I drank about one quart of mares’ milk!(mares’ milk: the milk of a female horse; tastes like liquid Mac and cheese) Amazing place to visit!
