The staff is amazing, very kind and professional. The best restaurant in Pullman by far. The prices are average to higher — but worth the delicious food! I would reccomend this place to anyone visiting or living in Pullman.

The food was really good, but very very slow. It took an hour to get my entrée, and it wasn’t busy. I also didn’t appreciate the tiny glass of lemonade. It was insulting. However, the food is awesome. I’ll probably be back.

Black Cypress is a restaurant apart from all others! Douglas the bartender on Friday nights will set you up with unique drinks like no other bartender around! We are from Olympia/Seattle and came here to bring our daughter to school– The Black Cypress delivers wonderful dishes and the best drinks! See Douglas for the best drinks in town!

We went here for our 25th anniversary, and it measured up to the occasion. The food and drink were good but the way the staff worked together and complemented each other without being overbearing in any way was particularly noteworthy.

This is my all-time favorite restaurant in the area. Although The Black Cypress is not cheap, I have never once thought that I am over-paying for what I ordered. From their drinks to their appetizers to their entrees to their desserts, they are flawless, and this is impressive considering the fact that the restaurant is usually packed with guests. While there’s really nothing on the menu that would disappoint, my «If I die tomorrow and could have one last meal with my loved ones» meal at Black Cypress would be– the clams with the house smoked bacon in a lemon kale broth, the marinated pork souvlakia served on a crisp bed of perfectly dressed romaine, the lamb with briam(a Greek ratatouille with eggplant, root vegetables, tomatoes and herbs), and the bread pudding which has a crispy outer texture similar to a crème brûlée. Finally, although this place is often packed, they somehow manage to maintain a sense of intimacy for the diners, so this is a great place for a special event or romantic date.

Pretty hyped up restaurant and I found it average after traveling all over the country and experiencing a lot of restaurants. The waiter and bar had A LOT of trouble getting the beers we ordered all night, keg problems??? The pork chop was overcooked and the mashed potatoes and slaw were descent at best. All and all, I’d probably give them another chance but was underwhelmed.

Really surprised to find fine dining like this in Pullman! Loved the ambiance and the rustic tables and decorations, the burlap ceilings in particular. The waitress we had is one of those people that just radiates 360 degrees that they love what they do, and that made the experience even greater. The meal we had was on the light side, with me ordering the house salad(solid; nice and flavorful big plate for $ 11 and their lardon-style house bacon is wonderful) and my companion the carbonara. We shared the Cypriot grilled cheese appetizer and it was the best part. I’d wanted to try Halloumi cheese for years and it was everything I’d expected, and then throw in date jam and marinated chiffonaded mint on crusty bread and it was truly excellent. I’m looking forward to going back and trying something from their grilled meats selection, as other diners had some very appealing steaks and chops.

The nicest place in Pullman, the food never disappoints. Last night’s special, Halibut and coconut infused«stew» with jasmine rice was exquisite. Mom’s weekend in this cute university town is always a very busy time with restaurants filled to capacity, but this gem of a place did not rush the care they took to prepare our meal. Best bread pudding ever eaten: light and delicate(very unusual for bread pudding). I think the Brazilian chef is a talented woman with a real«feel» for nuance. Fair prices for great quality food. Don’t miss a meal here when in Pullman.

We went in and really had no clue what to expect. This place was amazing. I wish I had one local to me. We had the cheese plate and it was not great(the foundry had a great cheese plate) however that being said the main courses where amazing. We had the lamb chops, the ribeye, and clams. All three where great if not spectacular. The house wine that was suggested was very good as well. Service was great. Overall a top choice for Pullman.

Whenever I am in Pullman, we always eat at Black Cypress! This place has some of the best drinks, great service, and really great food! I have had the chicken, lamb chops, daily pork, and daily fish and it is all great! This place is a bit pricy, but worth it!

Delicious and worth the price. I come here at least 2 – 3 times a year(on special occasions) and it’s always good. I keep forgetting to take pics of my food because I’m too busy devouring every single piece on my plate. I would have to say that the clams are just absolutely delicious as well as the chicken and ribeye.

I gave this eatery only 3 stars based on the following. With such high prices I expected better food. I had the ribeye steak and though well cooked it lacked flavor. The drinks were ok. again, at these prices expected better. Wait staff was great and kept up with the dinner needs. My family had the specials of the day and were satisfied only. One would think that a niche restaurant like this would have prices and or food that would but compatible with the Pullman area. This place is for special occasions not every day.

We drove from Everett to Pullman to celebrate our sons 20th birthday. He said he wanted to go to The Black Cypress. This restaurant does everything right. We started with clams as a appetizer, I had the roasted chicken, my husband had the carbonara, the birthday boy had the pasta special and his girlfriend had the cheese sandwiches off of the appetizer menu. Every dish was prepared to perfection and then we had all 3 of the evenings desserts to share. Great food, excellent service. Just a great way to spend the evening with our son. I will definetly be back.

I’ve said, «Why does Moscow have all of the nice, fancy restaurants?»(ex: Sangria, Maialina, Nectar, Lodgepole). I knew Black Cypress was just down the road from us but never had the opportunity to dine there until New Year’s Eve 2015. I was greatly impressed! I made reservations for me and my boyfriend so there was no wait for us, though we didn’t see anyone waiting at the door either. We were greeted and seated right away. The décor is rustic and homey, but still classy. The chandeliers are a beautiful, romantic touch, especially at dinner time. Specials are written on a chalkboard on the wall, as with most hip restaurants in this area. I wish I had my glasses because I didn’t see what the daily bread was until after and it had all of my favorite things on it/was akin to a lox bagel! I ordered a house salad and the roasted chicken, I believe. I only ordered the salad because I was feeling dizzy due to some health issues/needed to eat right away but the salad was surprisingly delicious. It kind of reminded me of the spinach/candied hazelnut/goat cheese salad at Maialina because of the vinaigrette dressing and candied nuts but that’s not a bad thing, in my opinion. It also had some thick cut meat(bacon, probably?), which I found delicious, even though I usually don’t care for meat. I ordered a half salad so it wasn’t too filling. The chicken came out in a decent amount of time. I’m not a big meat-eater at all but man… as soon as I stuck my fork into it(with the intention of cutting it with my knife), I KNEW it was gonna be good. It was sooo tender and cooked perfectly. The skin was crisp, but not oily, and had the right amount of seasoning to it. I didn’t care for the kale(I think?) that was under it but the bread pieces were an interesting/unique touch from the typical potato or rice starch. My boyfriend had the spaghetti carbonara. I had a bite and it was also perfect. The sauce wasn’t too light or too heavy and the noodles were cooked to perfection. My boyfriend said that he wished the meat(I think it was bacon, again) was less rich but I thought it tasted great. They also served us some little bread rolls with sea salt along with our main dishes. I could eat those all day, and I’m kinda glad that they didn’t bring it out before our meals… I wouldn’t have had any room for my delicious chicken! We ordered some coffee after our meal because we’re old fuddie duddies that need help staying awake until midnight for NYE. The coffee was a bit lukewarm but I kinda liked that, despite the freezing 9 degree weather outside. I tend to be impatient and burn my tongue on scorching hot coffee and we were kinda of in a rush to get to Etsi Bravo next door anyway(which ended up being for nothing since they were over-crowded and weren’t letting people in… we ended up grabbing some sub-par/last pick seating at Rico’s instead). Service here was friendly and timely, despite the NYE rush and also attentive but not too in-your-face. The only downer was that there was a table of around 20 rowdy college kids in the same room as us, so that kind of ruined the atmosphere for myself and visibly other older people in the room(we are in our mid-20s but everyone else besides that group were middle-aged) but this is Pullman, it’s a college town, and everyone is young once so I can’t complain. I highly recommend this place! Very classy and very high quality in every way.

Fairly conservative portions, but delicious. The wine is more fairly priced than other local restaurants. They were busy on New Year’s Eve, but provided good service.

First off, I’d like to say don’t order the pasta dishes! This place has some amazing food, but pasta is not one of them.(If you want good pasta, go elsewhere or cook some at home, trust me.) Our party ordered lamb, beef, and lots of pasta. The meat dishes were incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection, but the pasta had weird flavor combinations(Read: I didn’t want to eat it and regretted my choice right away.) The server was friendly enough, but when I commented on the odd pasta flavors, she seemed offended and dismissive, rather than helpful.(I wish that she would’ve at least said that she appreciated my critique and would pass it along to the chef…) Working in the food industry, I’d expect that servers would want their guests to be happy and feel heard, but that was not the case unfortunately. I want to love this place. The décor is charming, modern rustic, with a great ambiance, and some of the food is amazing. If only they could up their game and care about customer input, then it’d be 5 stars for sure!

I came here with my mom a few days ago and loved the atmosphere. The waitress who helped us was very attentive and sweet. I ordered the Sturgeon with the potato purée and it was delicious, truly. However, I was a bit disappointed with the pasta because it was bland(in my opinion). I should mention that I prefer creamier pastas though. If you decide don’t want to eat dinner, then you MUST come for the bread pudding. It is divine! I would come back just for that dessert!

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The Cypriot Sandwiches were the star — I could eat those things all day long. The flavors and textures were perfectly balanced. I think my mint salad had some dill mixed in(happy about that!) and I’m pretty sure the server said the spread was apricot(a departure from the date spread, as the menu notes). My half beet salad was tinier than I was hoping for, but again, the flavor made up for it. The Caipirinha cocktail made me want to go to Brazil. Not too sweet, but not too alcohol-heavy. Nice splash of lime. Finished everything off with a vanilla bean panna cotta with apricot purée and mint. You’ll always win me over with panna cotta. Service was attentive and caring. Needless to say, I was texting photos of my food to friends and family, telling them they MUST stop in next time they are in Pullman.

Visiting from California to get my son settled back in Pullman for school and have been wanting to try Black Cypress since my last visit. Fortunately for us, they were open and had seating available on this visit. Who knew that Pullman would have a restaurant of this caliber? We dined early for dinner so there was no need for a 5:30 reservation on a non-WSU major event weekend, but I would highly recommend you make reservations if you are coming in for Mom’s Weekend or a like event(thus the reason we have never been able to get in on previous visits). Service/Atmosphere: excellent; very attentive service. Upscale interior — something you would find dining in a big city. Appetizer/Main: We ordered the Daily Bread, lamb chops and Pomodoro with meatballs. Daily Bread was good, but the crostini was a little too crunchy for my taste. Lamb chops were excellent and I would definitely order again — very generous serving that could easily feed two. My son had the Pomodoro, he thought it was very good and polished it off along with the rest of my plate. Dessert: Although we were full from dinner, we did manage to order two desserts. The server was nice enough do a half order for me for the Bread Pudding and Huckleberry Ice Cream and my son ordered the Brownie and Ice Cream… both were very good. Overall impression: In my opinion, the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get. We had an enjoyable and more than satisfying dinner and it was refreshing to not eat the standard college town type of fair — pizza, burgers, etc. I’ve had many great meals ruined by bad service, but I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with Black Cypress’ menu and service. I look forward to dining here again on my next visit to Pullman!

Like a lone seedling of good-to-near-great food along Main Street in Pullman swaddled in 5-star Unilocal reviews and likeable Instagram photo mojo, the Black Cypress stands atop a foodie pedestal on the Palouse. This is «the» restaurant if this is «the» place. I was lucky enough to enjoy two meals in two weeks. The first was fabulous. The second was good. I’m now a Black Cypress fan. All meals at The Black Cypress should begin with the Black Cypress Daily Bread Basket with grilled Panhandle Artisan Bakery(Moscow, ID) bread and Seasonal Bruschetta. Sure, it’s just bread, but you like bread, remember? A co-worker and a friendly server recommended the Roasted Chicken($ 22) with Bread Salad, Seasonal Greens, and a Herb Pan Jus. To say I was skeptical about«gettin’ chicken» as a winner when the menu features Lamb Chops, Ribeye Steak, and more would be a complete understatement. Luckily, I didn’t trust my instinct and did trust the server’s sincere smile. She was right. The Roasted Chicken was a tender flavor victor worthy of boasting about and should be renamed to Boasted Chicken. If I hadn’t come back a week later and trusted my adventuresome Unilocal instincts by ordering the Daily Skewer special, The Black Cypress would surely of been 5 stars. Unfortunately, the daily kabob was over-spiced, super-fatty cuts of Beef that had me leaving half on the plate. Bummer. For both meals, dessert was shared and the stars were a pair of sweet pairs featuring Ice Cream. Number one on my list(and yours) has to be the Bread Pudding & local-favorite Huckleberry Ice Cream. A close second was a soft Brownie with Marshmallow & Ice Cream. Can’t decide? Get both and share … or not. The Black Cypress is worthy of its status in Pullman as «the» restaurant on Main Street for good-to-near-great food.
