In just about any other neighborhood, this restaurant would get two stars from me. Unilocal’s two star rating, according to them, means«meh, I’ve had better.» That is true for Double Chinese when compared to takeout Chinese in most other NYC neighborhoods. But this is Ridgewood/Glendale and Chinese food around here really SUCKS — even by Chinese American takeout food standards. To get good stuff you’ve got to hop in the car and head to Elmhurst. Double Chinese is the ONLY Chinese food place in this area that can make SOME food that’s not half bad.(and it’s not real Chinese food — it’s still Chinese American). With that said, all right. They make some decent garlic sauce dishes(eggplant, broccoli, chicken) and some pretty good chow mei fun. If you beg for them to make it spicy, it will be at least a little spicy. That’s a big plus in these parts. It all could be, should be better but it’s still the best in this area(and brother I have tried many many Chinese takeout places around here — sometimes I wonder if I’ve suddenly been dropped into Boise Idaho it’s so awful). At Double Chinese, I can at least eat something that’s okay. That’s why it gets three stars. In Ridgewood/Glendale, this place is «A-OK.»

i rarely take the time to get on here and review something … for any reason. however, i felt it important to discuss this place. with so many options for chinese in queens/nyc, if you are considering somewhere else in the area, don’t. all of their food is excellent and reasonably priced. super quick and friendly service. also, after picking up several times, we have seen that the place itself is clean and very well operated(something very rare with delivery/takeout chinese). highly recommend. you won’t be disappointed

Love their dumplings and crab rangoon, also their soups are good and their spring rolls. They have decent general tsos, and the lomein is what you would expect.

I won’t lie to you: having lived for four years in Chicago, I find New York is a drag. The most glaring case-in-point is take-out. The entire point of take-out is, well, convenience. But you know what isn’t convenient? Having to find an ATM because your take-out place won’t accept credit and debit cards. Chicago seems, by and large, to have figured this out. New York is still hit-or-miss. So, that said, just about any take-out place in New York that accepts debit and credit cards and doesn’t serve me food covered in rat droppings is pretty much guaranteed to get a three-star review. Double accepts credit/debit. Three stars!!! Double’s food is hot, tasty, and quickly prepared, and the service is friendly. Here’s another star for you, Double. Four stars!!! I’ve never eaten in at Double, but having sat in the dining area waiting for a take-out order on numerous occasions, I can say that, unlike every other take-out place I’ve ever visited in New York(or Chicago, actually), I wouldn’t mind staying to eat at this one. It’s CLEAN, for one, and, while hardly luxurious, the restaurant is nicely decorated. This is everything you’d expect a family-run, neighborhood Chinese joint to be.
