For years I thought that this was just an extension of Astoria Park. It is a tiny sliver of a park along the East River, but it is a nice sliver. A few cherry blossom trees are planted there, and they flower in spring with the other trees. And it can be a pleasant extension to your walk around Astoria Park. If you look south, you can see the Hell Gate and RFK Bridges. The view is especially nice at night, as you can see the Manhattan skyline. Unfortunately, the other views aren’t so nice. To the north, you have a Con Ed plant, with its smokestacks. Directly west, across the East River, there is the sewage treatment plant. Occasionally, and this is a complaint for the area by this park, there is a bad odor. While generally less crowded than Astoria Park, it can get crowded during weekends in the summer, with people blasting music from their cars or for their picnics/parties. However, it usually is peaceful in the mornings, and during the winter.

I love Ralph Demarco Park which is little sister to Astoria Park. Its less crowded and peaceful. Breathtaking view of the bridge… not sure what’s the name since I don’t drive you know =) I love just sitting in the park with my thoughts and taking in the beauty around me! I remember the park last year it was under major facelift. New plants and trees have been planted.

Trash, trash and more trash. Funny how zillion dollar developments along the East River have fantastic riverside parks where at this one you’ve got overgrown weeds and trash, trash and more trash. Astoria deserves better than this. And the ironic thing is that the park infrastructure is already there. The city just needs to give a darn and it could be an awesome northern branch off of Astoria Park.

This little pocket of green space north of Astoria Park is a nice refuge as you approach Astoria Station.
