Avoid at all costs. Terrible service I went there recently to get a haircut. I had an interview scheduled for the next day and was desperate to get a haircut and my regular hairdresser was all booked. I enter Rani Spa and am told it will be a 20 min wait as they are working on a different client. So I wait. After half an hour, am told«it will take some more time.». After another 10 minutes, my wife turns up and she has one look at the customer who is being worked on and tells me, «It will take at least another half an hour for them to finish with that customer». I was enraged but I walked out without making a scene. I find their attitude towards other people’s time extremely disrespectful and offensive.

The threading is great, especially for the price($ 6 eyebrows & $ 4 upper lip). Just be sure to check their work before you leave; they typically miss a few hairs on me.

I highly recommend you do not go to place. I have thin eyebrows, I went in with a photograph of how I wanted my eyebrows to look. I went in with 2 eyebrows and walked out with 1 ½ eyebrows!!!

I don’t care what this salon is known for or what you should go there for, bottom line is the service is terrible and the salon should be shut down by the board. I went in there thinking this is an Indian owned spot so I didn’t have crazy high expectations but I love to be proved otherwise.(I’m not biased I am Indian these spots are a dime a dozen). These two women were working on eachother when I walked in and almost looked disappointed that they had to stop to take a client. They didn’t understand what I was asking for or what I was saying I literally had to point to my arms and say wax and point to my legs and say wax. I should have ran out at that point. Needless to say the room was filthy, the ladies had poor hygiene and they were saying terribly rude things about me in their own language(funny enough I am Indian so I understood everyword of it). They got wax on my red leather handbag as well as my clothes. I had burns and welts up and down my arms. They tried to bring cold towels to calm my skin but the towels stank and had hair and dust on them… did they freakin bring the dish rags to put on me?!? I have been waxing my body for a long time(did I mention I am Indian this is not my first time around.) and I have never had such a terrible reaction. I left before they did my legs. Two weeks later my arms are scarred and I am still pretty damn mad that that place is open. Bad quality is an understatement. Health department needs to shut it down. And whoever owns that place you should be ashamed.

I visited this location for a facial. There was only one staff there and she was already giving facials to two people. My turn finally came and she told me to change into a used robe. The doors were all missing locks(even the bathroom). After I mentioned that the used robe was wet, she gave me a clean one(I hope). The facial itself was short and awful. She continuously rubbed exfoliating lotion over my eyes(ouch!) and put notion up my nose. At some point, the lotion drained into the back of my throat. I would not recommend this place for a facial. I had an underarm wax treatment and that was OK. The massage she gave during the facial was decent as well.

I’ve been going to Rani for 5 years, and have had an overall good experience. I now rate this place with 2 stars because it has taken a turn for the worse. Someone mentioned that their employee turnover is quick. I agree. Unfortunately, I think this turn over has lead to poor quality. I go every other week and three weeks ago I sat for an unfamiliar face. I told her I only wanted my brows cleaned, not shaped. After about 5 minutes she said she was done. When I looked in the mirrors, I could easily see that she was, in fact, far from done. I asked her to continue working on my brows and lip. I was pleased with the way I looked, but annoyed that she believed she was done when she clearly wasn’t. Cut to last week, I go in for my usual cleaning and get the same girl. Same thing, she says she’s done after a few minutes. I told her she wasn’t and had to point out allllll of the hair she had missed. She continued with her work on my lip, but by that point she became more rough with the thread. I was shocked when she said she was done the second time. I pointed out all of the hair she missed again. Annoyed, she said she would fix it, and I told her I didn’t want her to touch me anymore. I paid, left, and will never go back. Shame on Rani for not securing the quality of her staff!

This place has surprisingly bad reviews, but I have been going here for years. Here’s why: This place is known for their threading. The employee turnover is quick, but they always have skilled threaders. Sometimes you will need to provide some direction, but even so, I have only had one less than perfect job, and I never saw that girl again. I always get compliments on my eyebrows, and I don’t even have that much to work with. To be on the safe side, ask for Chenda or Farjana. Going to this place for a «relaxing» treatment is a sore mistake, especially if you have been to, say, any spa, ever… but its clear from their reputation that eyebrow threading wins them their bread and butter.

As a walk-in the day before Valentine’s Day I expected to wait for a Brazilian Bikini Wax and Eyebrow Wax. Upon walking in the door, I was not greeted much less acknowledged. Waiting until one of the two women working there was finished with a customer, I inquired about waxing services, prices and wait time, it was like squeezing water from a stone. She completely lacked any sense of customer service, barely making eye contact and seemed more preoccupied with ringing up a $ 9 sales than answering my questions. Because I was short on time I decided to wait the 20 minutes she said I would need to for the services. I was taken immediately for the eye threading(which was actually very good and inexpensive at $ 6), but was told I would need to wait another 30 minutes to an hour now for the wax because a client had shown up for their appt, as if she appeared out of the blue and they were not aware of this when I first asked about wait time. Rudely they said their next opening was an hour later and I could wait. I left, and decided I could run other errands and come back at this time. I arrived on time to be told it would be about another 20 minutes. At that point I gave up and walked out. They really didn’t seem to care nor apologize,. Don’t waste your time if you want to spend hard earned money on a business that respects your time and money, or at the very least has an ounce of decent customer service.

I had an experience very similar to Allison K. I went because of a Groupon coupon. I live in Manhattan and tried to schedule an appointment at the Manhattan location. When I called there originally, they said they were booked and would take my information to call me when they had an opening. Well, lo and behold, the Groupon deal expires today and still no phonecall. Luckily for me, I expected this to happen, so I took it upon myself to call the location in Astoria, where they had plenty of availability. I get there and it was awkward… There was no peaceful ambience at all. I believe they took me to the facial/waxing room to do the massage, which was brightly lit and not relaxing at all. They then tell me I can undress down to my undies and lie down on the table. It was super cold in there, which didn’t help at all. What also didn’t help was looking at the cockroach in the ceiling light above my head. I laid there wondering how this would turn out to be relaxing… the lady who gave me the massage walked in, turned the light off, and started the massage in the darkness. The table was uncomfortable, the room was really cold, and I was getting massaged to the sound of the washing mashing in the room next door, the phonecalls in the front lobby area, the heels of the girl who was in the front. In addition, the girl who was taking the phonecalls and incoming customers kept interrupting the lady who was doing my massage. I couldn’t help but think at the beginning, «Omg, this is going to be an hour-long massage of cold and awkward discomfort,» and I was right. I won’t be going back there, and I’m also glad I didn’t pay full price for this. It’s supposedly worth $ 80, but I’m not sure why.

I went here for a massage because I had a coupon from Groupon. It was a pretty negative experience. There’s no ambiance, and there’s not even any music during the massage. So I was just awkwardly quiet and listening to the hair dryers and clatters from the salon area while this lady tried to give me a massage. And she wasn’t that great. The whole experience was pretty all-around awkward and no better than mediocre. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price.
