Clarks Bostonian

I recently moved to the area. Needed some boots, so I went into Clarks Bostonian Outlet Store. They didn’t have any my size that I liked but said they could order some. I chose a style, paid for them, they said they’d be delivered to the store in a few days and they’d call me. A few days later I got the call. What with one thing and another (Year-​end Holidays and all) I forgot all about the boots until I was cleaning out my wallet in mid-​February and found the receipt. I took the receipt to the store to get a refund (I had never touched the boots — had not taken possession of them).
The clerk (maybe he was the manager) was surly and said he would have to do some research to find the record of the sale. I said if he couldn’t find the record (I did have the receipt, after all) I would initiate a credit card chargeback. He responded that I would be arrested for fraud if I tried to do a chargeback. Remembering that I had paid cash for them, I realized that a chargeback was not an option anyway. Then he told me that there was a 90-​day return policy and that I was outside of that 90 days — so tough luck, no return possible, company policy. He smiled when he said that, and it was not a nice smile. I refused to take the boots with me and left the store, vowing never to return. When I got home I looked again at the receipt, noting that l had ordered the boots on Dec 12 and the day I returned to the store was Feb 23. A little quick math told me that I was still within the 90-​day return period. Either he can’t add or he was hoping I’d just take the boots that I no longer wanted and not look at the date printed on the receipt. It almost worked. I am going to contact his superiors and complain about him and my treatment in this store. If I eventually get a refund, I’ll amend this review accordingly.

Oddly enough I didn’t buy anything here today, in fact I didn’t even see the sales associates. Maybe they were too busy with inventory in the back but Clarks are one of my favorite shoes in the world as they are extremely comfortable. Just too bad that I didn’t see anything I like this time around but odd that we didn’t see any associates or were greeted by anyone. I guess everyone has an off day.
