DONOTGOHERE! STAYAWAY! After going to the the hospital’s emergency department twice for my throat closing up the I was informed I had a food allergy and was referred to this allergist. The doctor at Carolina Allergy and Asthma told me that I did not have an allergic reaction, my throat closing up was caused by snoring and I might have been dehydrated. When I questioned her diagnosis, since I have been snoring since I was a young child and this only has happened twice she said I could just look it up on google but to be safe she would do a skin test. The skin test showed that I am allergic to salt water… WHAT!!! Thank goodness I went there and spent $ 286.00 for this fine diagnosis. I better watch out the next time I eat french fries.

I have been getting allergy shots for years and years. I transferred to CAAC last year and I am very happy I did so! I see Dr. Karen Dunn and she is great, she’s very thorough and she makes sure to explain things to you and doesn’t gloss over information. The nurses are very nice as well, they’re the ones that give the shots so that’s always a plus! My few complaints are that their phone system is REALLY not user friendly. It’s an automated answering service and I always have a really hard time getting a live person on the phone. Also, sometimes they close early and they don’t have a system set up to notify patients. Since allergy shots aren’t done by appointment, that can be frustrating, but it doesn’t happy very often.

Allergies are an unfortunate part of some people’s lives. I never had them when I was younger but in the last five years my situation has gotten worse over time. You might have seasonal allergies to grass and tree pollen. Or maybe cat and dog allergies. Or worse of all, to dustmites which means you’re under attack all year round. Typical symptoms include low energy, sinus headaches and infections along with the usual sneeziness and eye irritation. My allergies were so bad I’d be snoughing(sneezing and coughing) regularly! If all that sounds familiar, you might want to get a referral over to Carolina Allergy & Asthma. CAAC has three locations in the Raleigh area and the Lake Drive office is one of the newest. With four doctors on call and a staff of nurses, they can help diagnose your allergy situation and treatment. You’ll typically start with the allergy prick-fest which is interesting. Imagine getting poked with a small, pointy plastic block treated with about 40 allergens. It looks like a torture device but isn’t that painful! Then they wait for the reaction and prick you some more to isolate your primary allergies. I think I got stuck nearly 60 times during my first visit, ugh! Once they figure things out, CAAC will set up a serum and series of allergy shots to desensitize you with the goal of minimizing or eliminating most of the nasty allergy symptoms. It’s not fun and requires some perseverence(shots happen semi-weekly to bi-weekly for more than a year) but if you’re suffering, there’s no harm in trying. The CAAC staff of nurses are all pleasant and professional, there’s typically not a long wait. Billing is simple and easy, allergy shots are usually covered by most insurance plans. So while allergies can really impact your life, CAAC can help you manage the problems. Check em out if you suspect you have allergies and need some relief!
