Great food but definitely a place to have a more relaxed meal. A great diner and place to step back into the past. Service while good is a bit slow, but the food is worth the wait.

Thoroughly enjoyed the service. It was a busy Saturday around 1:00 pm. Everything was delicious. There were 3 in our party and there were pecan hot cakes ordered(they were ok), fried pork chops and eggs, corn beef hash platter and a turkey omelet with all the fixings(the best). Highly recommend. It is a bit pricey but the breakfast is good.

Have been a Gypsy’s fan ever since we moved down here in 2001. give or take a few months. The 7, or is it 9? layer chocolate cake awaits anyone that remains hungry AFTER their meal. I usually go for the pancakes — pecans and bananas. If you’re not starving, 2 will do. If you’re hangry, go for 3. Their chips are made in-house and are really good. They claim to be able to make eggs up a 100 different ways, but I always go over easy or western omelet. Both are done right. I’d like it if they’d give me a pot of coffee to pour from table-side, but otherwise I have no complaints. Trivia: apparently the Town was less than pleased to have a ‘shiny diner.’ But I’m glad they’ve made friends. Not too many diners around, and I’ll take this over IHOP any day of the week.

Fifties diner, breakfast food at it’s best. I have been here a handful of times and it is what you would expect. Nothing more, nothing less. Great sanitation grade and everything looks clean and well kept. It is cool to see a place like this in middle of Cary because of the city ordinances that keep cool buildings like this from happening. The food is good and no complaints. I’ve had the following at some point. Biscuits and gravy: B Eggs over easy: B Sausage links: B+ Grits: A–(need salt & pepper) French Toast: B– Veggie Omelet: A– Hashbrowns: A– Wheat Toast: It’s toast

Had brunch here after church and the food was just so-so. Had eggs and bacon and daughter had chicken salad sandwich. Probably would say we won’t go back anytime soon.

Came here after church for lunch. Had the blackjack club. It’s a big portion at a good price. The roast beef was a little dry, hence the 3 stars. Service was great and very friendly staff.

Retro 50er Diner…

Very happy with my first visit to Gypsy’s. I’m sure it won’t be the last. Everything I got was hot and tasty. Fried okra wasn’t too greasy. Chicken-fried steak was excellent, and the cream gravy wasn’t too thick(like some chains make it). The carrot cake for dessert was also exceptional. Fresh, moist, with cream cheese frosting that was perfect(not too cheesy, not too sweet, not too stiff, etc.). My only complaint was the battered fries. How are these still a thing? French fries don’t need to be «improved» IMO but everything else at Gypsy’s was great.

3 stars for a diner. Typical diner food but above average quality. Staff is nice, place is relatively clean. Nice place to grab a quick simple meal or breakfast.

As soon as you look at the place and walk in its like you are transported back in time. you are in 50s now. The shine flashy steel finish all over the place with bright lights and leather booths. Delightful surprise was personal juke box in every booth. I would have given the place a 4 star but my omlete wasn’t good at all(veggie something) but my husband’s Stack it all Omlete was delicious. Great Hash browns and even the rye toasts we ordered were not just stack of chewy bread you normally get. The place seemed popular and quick service helps when you are dining out for breakfast. I am definitely going back to give it another go and maybe order pancake sandwiches recommended by lots of Unilocalers.

(+) The 100% dedication to the old school Americana vibe, down to the jukebox control at each booth. (+) Our waitress was attentive and sharp. (+) The rich breakfast food offerings, and the range of options on the menu. (+) The coffee was stronger than average diner coffee. (-) I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Ham, and I wasn’t super-crazy about the hollandaise sauce… something was off in its flavor and texture, it wasn’t as rich as I expected.

If you’re in the Crossroads area, you have to stop at Gypsy’s for a bite to eat. I’ve been here multiple times, and the food and service are always great! I love the old school atmosphere and the jukeboxes at the tables. Gypsy’s is a classic diner through and through. I’ve ordered off both their breakfast and lunch menus. My go-to plate is the BLT with homemade chips — delicious! My fiancé usually gets breakfast. The portions are huge, and the food always tastes good. My only qualm is that they don’t really have a, waiting area, so if there’s a big crowd during the winter months, you’re going to get cold. It does get very crowded in the morning/early afternoon on the weekends. They do turn the tables pretty quickly, though.

I have had great experiences over the past 3 years dining at this restaurant! The waitresses are a true joy, and the place is very popular on the weekends. It has been a go-to breakfast stop for myself and many of my friends on Saturday mornings. Definitely try their cake too, it’s quite a treat!

I have been eyeing this place since my first adventure into Cary. The outside is so shiny and doesn’t really fit in with the surrounding buildings. Now I can say I’ve finally been. We went in for breakfast on a Saturday. The place was hopping! We waited in line for a table for three — luckily, we only had a few minute long wait, impressive for a Saturday at breakfast time. Our waitress was prompt in taking our drink orders and answering any questions we had. We ended up trying a nice selection amongst the three of us: I went for the Bacon-na-tor omelet with hashbrowns, the boyfriend got the Wolfpacker(my second runner up) with grits, and my roommate got the Gypsy Jewel per a recommendation off Unilocal.Everything was delicious! My first bite of omelet was mostly egg, but once I got into it, it was perfect. I added salsa on top, which made it even more delectable. Food aside, the diner itself is pretty neat. There are little jukeboxes on each table and it is set up in the fashion of a 50s diner. The music selection was enjoyable, the volume was not overwhelming, and the seating was not uncomfortable.(We sat in a booth and I was able to sit criss-cross-applesauce in my seat comfortably.) The price range is a little bit higher than I am used to paying for breakfast, but the portions were much larger and therefore the increase seems justifiable. I would definitely like to go back for lunch someday. The menu had so many appetizing options! P. S. The pancakes smell like lemon poundcake for some reason.

A fun little diner with yummy food. We visited for lunch. We both had sandwiches. The Gypsy Chips were really yummy. Light and crunchy. I spotted Deviled Eggs offered as a side and ordered them. They were really good! Staff was friendly and our waitress attentive. We will be back!

I love this place! It’s the epitome of a diner. I have read some reviews that talked about the casual nature of the place and disliking the service, but that’s what a diner is: casual, friendly bustle. I have had a waitress be brisk with me once, but I’ve been there enough times to know that is not the typical service. I usually get breakfast like the Gypsy Jewel, but today I got a burger– it was amazing! Great hand pattied burger with a fun twist and perfectly crispy fries. I recommend the omelets, gypsy jewel or the delicious Dr. Derk burger– patty, melted mozzarella cheese, sautéed peppers mushrooms and onions, topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella sticks!

Admit it. It’s fun to say: Gypsy’s Shiny Diner. And, shine it does. The last sanitation rating was 99.5, which is stunning for a diner. Everything looked clean, even the restroom. Gypsy’s was packed on Sunday afternoon so we opted for counter seating. I watched as heaping plates of food including orders with homemade chips, chocolate chip pancakes, and humongous omelettes, made their way swiftly from the kitchen. The hand-carved, oven-roasted turkey omelette and home fries were delicious. I exchanged my toast option for what turned out to be a rather huge English muffin. Large portion sizes, even for a First World country. I had enough food for breakfast the next day and the turkey omelette reheated nicely in the microwave. Charming, retro feel from mini jukeboxes at the booths and counter stations. And, since breakfast is served all day long, you can enjoy it with Frank Sinatra whenever you decide to rise and shine. Overall, a great little diner earning four shiny stars for a quick, tasty Sunday brunch.

Once upon a time ago Gypsy’s was awesome. If it was very late on a Friday or a Saturday, and you wanted something better than Waffle House or Denny’s, Gypsy’s was the go to place. Late poker games after work would always be finished with a milkshake and some pretty good food. The service, while never quite measuring up to the idyllic picture in my mind, was still passable. Then everything changed. I first went back a few months ago at a late hour. I ordered the Texas Tumbleweed Cheesesteak with home fries and a strawberry milkshake. The Cheesesteak was good, but not great. I’m not one to be unrealistic when waxing nostalgic — this was pretty close to the food that I remembered from Gypsy’s. Sadly, that has been my only positive new memory. As Rod O. astutely noticed from the picture, the home fries were a soggy mess. Home fries need to be executed perfectly for any place that tries to claim itself a diner. The milkshake was even worse than the home fries. $ 5.00 would be an acceptable price for the way the milkshakes once tasted, but now they taste like some abomination off of the McCafé menu at McDonald’s. So after that experience, the smart thing would be to look elsewhere for my late night fix on a Friday or Saturday night. Right? Yep, but apparently I’m not very smart. Something possessed me to suggest Gypsy’s to a friend after a late night. This time, I ordered the Blackjack Club — roast beef, ham, turkey, American cheese, lettuce, and bacon with a side of house-made chips. My friend ordered two pancakes and three scrambled eggs. Our food came out very slowly, especially given how little prep is required for it and how few people were in the diner at the time. The photographs in the menu make their sandwich look deceptively big and the portion of chips even more deceptive than that. Now, initial glances made it evident that the sandwich was going to be blander than any Kristen Stewart performance, but the speed of service made it impractical to order anything else. And the sandwich was just as bad as it looked. It tasted worse than the sandwiches I’d throw together as an elementary school kid. Yet, I’m to believe this is a $ 10 sandwich? No effort went into it at all. My friend had a similarly poor experience. His pancakes did not have any powdered sugar thrown on top, something even IHOP does. It was minimalistic to a fault. His 3 scrambled eggs were nothing special, yet somehow cost $ 3.79. 1.5 stars — while this place has declined dramatically, it still is slightly better than a 1 star place. Only slightly, as the laziness in the menu coupled with the audacity to charge disproportionate prices now make Gypsy’s a place to avoid. Sadly, Waffle House has become the far better choice.
