I am hoping today was an off day for Village Deli in Cameron Village and not that it has gone downhill. I am usually a fan, but this time was not so good. We came for lunch today and it was pretty crowded. It seems like it always has been at lunch time. The wait seemed a bit excessive for our food though, much longer than other times. I ordered the grilled chicken caesar wrap and my girlfriend ordered the garden salad with salmon. My wrap was pretty bland and was lacking in the chicken department. My girlfriend described her salad as «gross» and it tasted like the lettuce was 3 weeks old. It looked pretty bad when I picked it up from the counter, but I didn’t want to say anything. Even the ranch didn’t taste the same… I will give these guys the benefit of the doubt and go with a 3 star based on previous experiences.

I grew up going here with good friends for lunch, and it’s still a classic if I’m craving some deli food. I love the Italian sub, the club sandwich, and the soups are delicious, too. It tends to be pretty busy, so be ready to scrounge for seating at a peak time! I’ve come back again and again, and it’s nice to have a staple.

I love the pleasant staff and delicious food at the Village Deli. I’ve been going there for years and have never been disappointed. There are reasonably priced daily specials as well as a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and soups. And the desserts — cookies, bars, cake and pies slices and various cheesecakes — are a sweet tasty treat, after a meal or as a snack. My favorites are the lemon bars, key lime pie and turtle cheesecake. You can build your own burger, as I often do, and they are so larger the meat usually hangs out of the bun. My only complaint is that the close early on Sunday afternoons.

Food seems ok Owners and workers, think they are in some New York deli. Food is way to expensive. The place is in a high rent district, so the average person can’t afford it.

Easily the best sandwich I’ve ever had. They really loaded on the meat and gave you all the good stuff! The bread tasted fresh as well. I hate when a deli doesn’t use fresh bread!

I ordered the turkey avocado and Brie panini and couldn’t find the avocado. There were flies around the place but it’s summer so that’s understandable. Overall it was good. I do think they should spend more time on the menu than the environment. I’ll probably come again

Great quick place to jump in and get a good sandwich paired with a good side. Went with a coworker and the food was both fresh and fast. Great place to get some unique options to with flavors you normally wouldn’t think of. Definitely pleased and will return.

I love VDG’s sweet potato fries! They have a couple of different gluten-free bread options, and the GF sunflower bread toasted is my favorite. Great lunch spot(they even have boxed lunch to-go specials), can’t beat sitting at one of their sidewalk tables in the sun.

Village Deli has delivered consistent quality every time I’ve been over a period of five years. Their meats are flavorful, never dry and well paired with cheeses. The sandwiches always contain fresh vegetables with a reasonable amount of added sauces, not overdone. The salads have high quality mixed greens and generous amounts of toppings in terms of nuts and cheese, although the pear portion is limited. Not least on the list of key attributes, the service is always prompt and they rarely ever make a mistake. The wait is never long and the staff is efficient and cordial. The dining area is kept clean. The atmosphere is casual with a tight floor plan. There is outdoor seating though, which is wonderful this time of year! Local art is on display, with asking prices, which is an added bonus that gives a sense of community. I’ve never seen any art sold, but they do keep the artists on a rotation. Overall, a great experience.

I have been here once for lunch and twice for breakfast so far. I was very satisfied every time. For lunch, I got a chicken salad sandwich and half a salad, which was actually huge. Not only generous, it was really good as well, with fresh ingredients. For breakfast I got an omelette the first time, and a breakfast sandwich with home fries the second time. It was all good, but I have to point out the breakfast sandwich was maybe the best I’ve ever had and I am a huge breakfast connoisseur. It had gouda, red peppers, sausage, and egg on great brioche bun. It was huge, too. I really didn’t need home fries with it. The service was really good every time I went, too. They will give you a mug for coffee while you’re there, but will offer you a to-go cup, no charge, to take some for the road.

Please, enunciate! My name is not that difficult to pronounce clearly. The folks using the microphone need to learn how to use it so that they are not sounding like Charlie Brown’s school teacher. I was given the wrong sandwich when I thought I was first called up there, but I only realized that after it was already in my possession and I was at my seat and had handled the sandwich. When I brought it back to the counter, instead of remaking the sandwich, they just called another name and the lady came and got it. I understand trying to keep food cost within certain tolerances, but that is a major no-no(epic fail). The pastrami sandwich was lacking in pastrami and cheese as well — very thin, very skimpy. If I’m going to pay $ 10 for a sandwich and NOT get full service from the restaurant, I expect it to be NY style, not a couple thin slices of meat on grilled rye. Make me want to come back, already!

Like a lot of people who grew up in Raleigh, I have been eating here for as long as I can remember. However, over the last year I have noticed a sharp decline in the quality of the food, service and friendliness of the staff. The downward trend has also been combined with a increase in prices and charges for sides(other than chips) which is a little ridiculous. I would encourage management and the employees to work on the speed of your orders and actually make an effort to show customers you appreciate their business.

Best deli in Raleigh. Local favorite. Everything on the menu is delicious. Great breakfast place too! Gotta try the French toast for breakfast & chicken salad for lunch. You will be addicted

The five stars is for Village Deli’s amazing breakfast sandwiches. They are hearty and meaty with intensely flavorful twists. My favorite is the BLG: bacon, lettuce, Gorgonzola, mescalun greens, and over easy eggs on ciabatta. That gem is always on the breakfast menu. You have to be careful or the egg yolks will get on your hands, but they are deliciously decadent in the sandwich. There are always a few new special sandwiches on the menu. Today I had pork belly(homemade bacon), over easy eggs, Munster cheese, tomato, and Sriracha on toasted rye. Oh man, I need a nap. Most people think of Village Deli as a lunch place, but it really shines at savory breakfasts.

Had lunch yesterday. I sooo wish I had gone somewhere else, anywhere else. The box lunch special is a horrible value. It’s an overpriced sandwich from the fridge. It appears everything is more expensive than other deli options. There are so many better options I’m surprised this place is still in business. I definitely will not be back, just too much of a rip off.

I have been coming to the Village Deli for years. It is right down the street from where I live and this was a place we frequented in high school during our off campus lunches! Despite the good memories Village Deli holds, I have to be honest. I find it to be very average, and I always have. The Rueben is the one thing that I have ordered and thought«this is good.» Everything else has always been kind of blah. The last few times I’ve gone they have been really slow and always forget to add a topping. Today for lunch I asked to add onion to my panini and they did not add it. Last time I went they also forgot to add an extra topping I had asked for. We waited a while for our food just like I did the last couple of times. People that came after us were getting their food first and all I ordered was a panini and my dad a tuna salad sandwich. Seems pretty standard. For the 2 of our sandwiches(no drinks included) he paid $ 20 something dollars. Not super expensive but not exactly cheap either. Especially for what you are getting. Coming to the Village Deli is never my suggestion, it’s strange because it’s not bad enough to swear it off but it’s not good enough for me to suggest going there. For some reason though when someone in the family is craving a sandwich this seems to be where we end up. None of us are particularly blown away but it satisfies the carb craving i guess? It is not very often we come but next time someone suggests it I’ll just go next door and grab Moes!

Gluten-free sandwich fans unite! Finally, a place that offers more than 1 type of bread for us. Seriously, if you’re like me, it’s hard to get truly full if you’re GF. You miss the day of a good olé sandwich on bread that is bigger than a quarter. Enter Village Deli. Ok, it’s been around for ages, but I’m just getting around to sampling their wares. For shame! After having a pedi date with my friend in Cameron Village, we walked in with the stirofoam flipflops and ordered the most lovely sandwiches. Immediately, I was taken back to my happy place(pre GF days). I shall be back Village Deli. Save me some bread…

The lure for me, since day one has always been the chicken salad. It was always tasty, the calling card, a mix of fresh apples, walnuts and roasted chicken. Half a sandwich is always plenty. A pickle, and a small cup of soup on those black and white checked paper napkins and it feels like a bit of comfort eating meets Rachel Ray. But lately, things are beginning to slip. Overly too much mayonnaise, slimy coat hanging over the once wonderful chicken apple walnut sandwich makes me sad. Compound that sadness with the hurting on my wallet and I think my romance is coming to a sad end.

Pretty good food here. Prices are decent. They have a patio so great for the summer. I really enjoyed their Ruben on Rye with 1000 island dressing. Great sandwich place
