California Backyard

We were referred to California Backyard by a friend, and decided to see them for our new home in Folsom’s patio furniture and hot tub. We spent nearly $ 10k and, in the store, Monique was friendly and knowledgeable. Within 7 – 10 days, we had our furniture but there were issues with accessability for hot tub delivery. We waited 10 days for the hot tub installer to drop by and see that we wouldn’t be needing a crane! The crew that delivers the hot tub are one Samoan & 3 Tongans. Big guys, yet gentle with the tub and landscaping. For 10 days, though, Robyn and Karen with Customer Service made us worry unnecessarily with measurement requirements that weren’t realistic. Once the hot tub was installed and filled with water, there wasn’t even a courtesy visit by staff to show us chemicals. When I notified Customer Service I was told «read the instructions in the chemical starter kit — any questions, contact us».

I’d all but abandoned hope in my search for a decent grill. That is, until I paid an impromptu visit to California Backyard. Now I foresee a summer full of glorious, grilled memories on my new stainless steel Weber.
Based on my research, I knew a Weber was pretty much the only way to go. I’d been disappointed time and again by the skimpy selection at Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears — all places where employees were either completely absent, totally unknowledgeable about the product or insisted on how the janky Char Broil grills were the only way to go. Fortunately for California Backyard, they have Sandra. She walked me through each model, its pros and cons, the differences between stainless steel and porcelain, care, warranties and much more. Basically everything I was hoping someone who sells barbecues would have knowledge of, and at no point did I ever feel like she was trying to up-​sell me.
Even better, they have a free delivery and take-​away service that would have cost me into the $ 100’s elsewhere. After a half hour of discussion on the floor, I was convinced.
If you’re ever in my neighborhood and get a stomach-​growling whiff of sizzling meats, you’ll know it’s coming from my backyard, and you’ll have Sandra and California Backyard to thank for it.

California Backyard is an awesome store with amazing products: but I just don’t care to spend that kind of money on… well, anything that doesn’t have an internal combustion engine.
If money is no object for you, by all means shop here for all of your outdoor entertaining needs. Gorgeous patio sets, garden accessories, hot tubs… everything to make your home’s outside look better than most peoples’ inside.
Also, the Christmas shop is great. Ornaments, decorations, lighted lawn accents, artificial trees, they’ve got it all. But if you wait until after Christmas it’s 50% off. So even though it’s not cheap by any means, you can get a good deal on some high-​quality decorations.

I have not been in for some time but I am glad I did. The store staff was very helpful, especially the manager, and the store looked great. They had everything I could want for my backyard. I have stopped into other stores that have similar items but they did not have the selection or service that I experienced at California Backyard. I enjoyed my shopping experience and look forward to going back again, maybe for one of their amazing looking hot tubs.

I will never do business there again, The marble top on the 1800 dollar firepit I bought there fell apart after 4 years. I was assured by customer service head Karen, the warranty was 5 years. Three weeks after not returning any of my calls she says the warranty isn’t real «clear» and it’s only two years. Said she filed a claim with the maker, spoke with firepit maker and was told NOBODY from California backyard had filed a claim, sent my pictures of the defective product, or spoken with them. Was promised the owner of the store would make it right, and replacing my defective marble top was «the right thing to do“‘ another promise they did not keep. BUYER BEWARE they love taking yoUr money and then drop the ball when their is a problem. Shop elsewhere. Not to be trusted.

although I’ve always thought CBY was higher in prices than most people can afford, I did purchase a large umbrella from them on sale. Due to my own mistake I broke one of the ribs. CBY’s post sale support, supply of parts, and ability to help solve my problem was awesome. They earned my future business
