Just an «ok» farmers market experience. Im not sure if I caught them on an off day or what, but their offerings were nothing near the photos on Unilocal.Extremely small selection and pricey in comparison to other farmers markets. Everything was either $ 2.50/each or $ 2.50/per a pound. This seems high for things like lettuce and carrots. Really great location off the American River and a fun walk to get to it. They did have plants and seedlings. Did not experience the rest of the«urban farm»(Im a small town farm girl, so city people talking about experiencing an «urban farm», makes me giggle). I love to support local businesses and farmers markets, so I plan on checking them out closer to summer, maybe they’ll have a bigger selection.

Such a cool spot! My son and I just ran around the farm! We looked at the cows and the baby calf, we saw the pigs, chickens, and walked through the gardens. It’s a really nice place. I highly recommend visiting sometime! We also plan on hitting up the farmers stand this Saturday.

Taking a home gardening class. Very nice setup and fresh veggies for sale as well. Farm is very active in local community and the class so far has been very imformative. Staff very nice. Will probably update this review as my class progresses.

Getting hands on experience on a real farm with my son and husband and friends was a beautiful experience. I am not going to lie to anyone it was hot there & I ended up using my drinking water to wet myself down a few times! It for me was a step back in time & revisiting an era when my family picked in the fields to support their families. So it was exciting to experience this for myself to add to the stories & old black and white pictures shared with me. I picked a complete box of heirloom cherry tomatoes on my own! No where as near to the 10 –15 boxes down by my mother in law or grandma back in the day but it was nice to experience it! For me this was something I always wanted to experience and do but with my weight & breathing problems I always told myself it wasn’t possible. So yes I got out of breath and probably worked slower than others but the bottom line is I did it, and Even though part of me was screaming its too hot what are you doing???(107) The other part of me felt so accomplished today. I enjoyed this experience so much I can’t wait to do it again!

Love the farm stand on Saturday mornings(always starts up in late May, I think) — friendly, great produce and other tasty goods, knowledgeable staff and volunteers. CSA option is also wonderful.

love this place! they are making rancho a little less hood and a little more neighbor with their plant sales, community service projects, day camps, and classes. you can learn anything from cooking to compost. friendly docents. lots of dirt to dig in. they are working on their outdoor kitchen now. square dancing was a workout, but it’s the only dance my boyfirend can do. for a visit, park at hagan park and walk across the way. farm stand saturdays 8a-1p. they offer seasonal veggie boxes by subscription(waiting list only for now). every year, they ofer more things, so please donate your time or money to making soil born farms even better. now i want chickens. not to eat. to raise.

In the beginning of the summer I was told that they were having an Open Farm day where there would be classes and vendors and a whole lot of cool stuff, I waited for the person who told me about it to go but she flaked on me so I made it to Soil Born at the end of their day. No matter though, I had a great time seeing all the vendors and their plants and the general atmosphere they had going on. They had tons of plants for sale and chickens roaming the grounds. Since then I have been back twice more to get amazing fruits and vegetables. As you can see from the pictures of my lunch, they have some sweet produce, in the words of Prot«Your produce alone [is] worth the trip.» And its great that I live in Carmichael and they are in Rancho Cordova. From where I live its a 10 mile car ride, but if I walk or ride my bike along the american river bike trail, it is only 3 miles!!! Their produce stand has limited hours, 8−1pm on Saturday, which kind of stinks because I am a late riser at times. Any who, if you are into urban gardens and want to eat locally, I highly recommend you come here.
