Fred Hesse Jr. Community Park

I hate to leave bad review for this place because the hall is actually really nice and clean but some of the staff made our experience difficult. We had a party for my sister at the hall they have at the park. When we went to check the place they advised us that they will be okay with us playing music & that we will have access to all the tables they have. The day of the party, we walked in 30 min asking if we can drop the decorations, they said ok but if we start to set up they will charge us. Then the staff come in telling us that they had already 1 meeting because of us and we pretty much better behave! WHAT? I started talking to him telling him what does that even mean? he comes in yelling at us saying that we used the tables that we were not instructed to use and it’s stated on the contract. Mind you, we signed a contract with the place stating that we can have access to ALL the tables and have music playing. Comes in the DJ now to set up, and the same staff «the gentleman that already had a meeting on us» stopping the DJ telling him that he cannot play the music and he have to leave. BTW the DJ is a friend who is not getting paid for the job and just doing as a favor since he was also a guest. When my husband went to talk to the staff telling him that he have no right to talk to any person coming to the party and should just direct his conversations to us as a respectful way at least to the people who were invited. He told him that he need to leave as well and that he will call the police!!! really? we paid to rent the hall, we have a contract with all what was happening, yet we were treated very disrespectfully and they called the police because we asked to see the contract that stating we cant have music playing!!! of course all this time we are paying for and yet we still did not set up because of the staff and how he is acting. NEVER AGAIN would we have a party here! BTW they refused to refund us the $$ for the hours they wasted fighting us and being disrespectful to us. Please be careful if you are planning to rent the hall.
P. S. we also rented the kitchen with the hall, but the staff had used half of the fridge without asking.

This is a very beautiful park located in Palos Verdes. It has stunning ocean views, volleyball courts, a baseball field, walking trails, and two small play structures. The playground equipment is standard and small. It is not worth trekking out for. Come out here for the hiking/​walking trails and Oceanview.
The parking was easy and ample. The bathrooms are located near the parking lot. Make sure you go there if you need to. There is nowhere else to go in the entire park. I learned this the hard way.

This park has beautiful view of the ocean. It’s got play areas for toddlers & kids. At times it could get windy so definitely have a jacket with you of for your kids. Great place to through birthday parties at.
Sometimes I go there to just walk around with the kids. Highly recommend checking out this beautiful & peaceful park.

This has been our practice and home field for AYSO soccer the past few seasons. Unfortunately, the required 36% water reduction in Palos Verdes has taken a toll, the once beautiful green field is now more brown (dirt) than green. It would seem the parks & recreation group has implemented a 100% water reduction policy.
The peninsula has several other parks with better playgrounds, but there is fun to be had for kids, and Hesse Park definitely has one of the best views. At the far end of the park/​soccer field there is a drop off which gives way to a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina, akin to an infinity pool effect. Just below this drop off is where the hiking trails are — FYI.
The large parcel of grass land has a softball field, full size soccer field and other room to roam. Another great aspect is the cement walking path which circles the park, I suspect 3 laps is close to a mile?
They also have several picnic benches, and metal grills for anyone wanting to BBQ, which is not common at a lot of peninsula parks. There is also dirt trail hiking or running to be had, as mentioned earlier, it’s beyond the soccer field and down the slope.
Parking isn’t too bad on the weekdays, but on the weekends it can get crowded because of all the games/​activities. For those wanting to hike, they have off road walking trails just beyond the soccer field, I have yet to walk on any of them, but you can see them wind down in the distance toward the ocean.

Gorgeous place for a BBQ! The view of the Pacific is amazing, and there are plenty of tables in the shade. Bathrooms are clean!

I absolutely adore this park this park. It’s clean, quiet, amazing space for kids and dogs alike to run around, has spots to BBQ and a beautiful ocean breeze and view! We always plan our family gatherings here! It’s a bit smaller than other other parks in the area but it’s still my favorite.

Such a lovely park, with gorgeous grounds and views to the ocean. We stopped by here to let the kids use the playground, and we were very pleased with what they had to offer The playground had a good amount of gear for both toddlers and older kids, and everything was clean and well maintained.
Thankfully the park was never that crowded when we went and most people that were there were either using the baseball diamond or having a picnic. We felt like we had the spot to ourselves. Great community asset.

Hesse Park is close to me, so I decided to try it out.
The views are SPECTACULAR! You could get a great view of Catalina. If you want to do a picnic, around 3 – 5 pm would be great to see the sunset.
The upper track Is great for walking or for enjoying the view! One mile equals 4 laps!
There is a very nice and well kept baseball diamond where my friends and I play occasionally.
Overall, this is a nice kept park with spectacular views and nice community space!

I love this park. I won’t bother to duplicate the glowing reviews that have already been written; I will only add that although the parking lot can get crowded, the park never seems to feel crowded. Even if there is a lot of activity spinning around me, the park still has a calming effect — must be the view.

4.5 stars. You can do it all at this park — have a picnic, walk your dogs, go jogging, host a small get together, take in the views, go on a date, tire your kids out on the playground equipment, or use some very clean bathrooms.
Convenient location in PV and jaw dropping views. Parking can get a bit tight and the area is gated, so access is restricted (check for hours).
There are some «Beware of Rattlesnake» signs, but just use your best judgement. I’ve never seen one.

A nice park with awesome ocean views. You get to frolic with the kids and still enjoy nice views of Catalina.
It has basketball, baseball, a small playground and a large grassy area for soccer or picnicking.
Parking can be a little tough if the lot is full.
You can barbecue also.
The community center is also available for parties

This park is beautiful. And it has a view of the Pacific Ocean!
Take a walk around and you’ll find a community room along with a playhouse area for small kids. There’s a few parking lots and residential parking.
This park is good for:

This is a beautiful park with an amazing view of the Pacific — it’s hard to tell where the sea ends and the sky begins on a cloudless day. With picnic tables, a softball field, playground, and walking paths, this is a nice place for both kids and older adults. There are a few benches on the crest of the park that are wonderful for watching the water.
I had a nice breakfast picnic on the benches and enjoyed the bird/​people/​dog watching. I spotted a hummingbird, several varieties of finch, though none of the rattlesnakes the signs warn about.
The parking is a little small, but it’s free, and so is this view.

Me and my boyfriend were looking for a place with a great sunset view, and we were just driving around Palos Verdes and just pull over here.
This park has a great sunset view and it’s overlooking the ocean. Three benches at the top of the hill and there is another mini park downhill with a short trail.
The parking is not that big though.

This a great park with a stunning ocean view.
Many people come here to have barbeques or to play baseball or soccer. Personally, I find this is a great park to take a hike through when I don’t have time to go to the gym.
There are stairs that lead from the upper section of this park, where most of the people congregate, to the lower section where there is nice trail to jog or walk along.
This is a fun park and a nice place to hang out.

My boyfriend took me here before dinner with the parentals. There are two playgrounds for the kids, picnic areas, a softball area, and a volleyball court. When you pass the BBQ pits and community center (BTW, the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen for a park), there’s a trail that goes down the hill. If you have Herpetophobia (fear of reptiles), I don’t recommend coming here because there’s tons of scurrying lizards, and rattlesnakes! They’re completely harmless if you leave them alone though.
After the trail down, we made our way up back to the top. There’s little picnic benches near the cliff where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean.
What a great day! I would definitely come back again.

I’m not really sure how one reviews a park, but here goes.
The view is absolutely fantastic, if you don’t believe me then go look at the pictures. The park has grass, a kids play area, a softball area, and more. There is also a trail where we took our dogs to walk around.

This park is great! It has amazing views of the ocean. A great walking path, big grassy field, baseball diamond, 2 playgrounds, a volleyball net, and picnic areas. It also has some great hiking paths around the park. Plenty of parking. Great park!

This park has a beautiful view. wonderful grass, and it is quiet and non-​crowded.
I love this park because it is just all around nice and peaceful.
It is a wonderful place for a picnic and a short nap with your puppy.

Great little park off Hawthorne in PV. Whenever I come here theres always people playing soccer, women vigorously power-​walking, little kids at the play ground, people walking their dogs, bbq-​ing, and of course, sitting on the benches watching the sunset. This last thing happens to be my favorite activity at the park, and my boyfriend and I often come with our dog in the evenings to watch this glorious occurrence. Amazing views of Catalina and the coast all the way up to Malibu make for an absolutely gorgeous sight.
Theres also trails down below the grassy area, and a playground off to the side and down some steps (not visible from the main grassy area), but if youre facing the ocean, its to the right.
I also sometimes see banners for pet adoptions that take place on saturdays, so if youre in the market for a furry friend, definitely stop by Hesse!
