Just picked up some fresh apple pies, wish they had more options for vegetarians and vegans on their menu

I love Marie Callender pies. From the fresh strawberry pie, and also my favorite the fresh summer peach pie which is an open face pie. The food at This coffee shop/restaurant is pretty decent. But when it comes to desert and pies they deserve many stars. They also sell their pies to go. Next time you pass Marie Callender’s stop by and try and piece of pie, you won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I have been coming to this location for years now. It’s been getting less and less desirable for weekend breakfasts. Today we had a Buy one, Get one free breakfast coupon. Gave it to our server as soon as we sat down. He gladly took it and said he would be sure we got the discount. The server we had was running on slow speed, he forgot to bring my muffin(that came with my breakfast), and in took 6 minutes just to get it, when my meal was almost over. THEN he forgot to deduct our coupon. Besides all that, the food was just so-so. I asked for scrambled eggs to be cooked«easy», they were overdone. Anyway! I really like the salad bar, so maybe I’ll stick to that for during the week.

It’s not fancy food, but the parents wanted to go here for their salad bar. They’ve been trying to eat healthier. The key is getting here early in the day, so the stuff is still fresh. They also like the steamed fish. It does seem pricey for what it is. They got a piece of cornbread which looked surprisingly good. DH got the French Dip with a side of fruit. The fruit was fresh, but didn’t seem very ripe. DH said, «It was pretty good. It was salty, but I ran out of au jus. That’s the way it always is with Marie Callender’s.» He said it wasn’t as good as the place in Livermore, near where we live. I got a half soup and half sandwich. The turkey sandwich on wheat bread actually had real turkey. I was expecting lunch meat, lol! The avocado was really good. The bread was a bit over-toasted, but perhaps that’s my fault for asking them to toast it. The veggie soup, a minestrone, was okay. It had large chunks of squash in it. Some veggies were slightly overcoked. Not something I’d crave, but it’s good to get some veggies in. Service was pretty good. They had a large selection of pies, but we pre-ordered one for the holidays. They had it in stock. We tried the«Razzleberry» pie(blackberry and raspberry) and it was better than expected. The pecan pie was a bit mushy, but that’s our fault for letting it sit a few days before eating.

I love their pies and morning breakfast! I only really go for the buffet which I think is the best.

Food was ok. Service was ok. Prices are fair. Food taste could be improved. Restaraunt was clean. Would recommend a burger or soup. Chili was ok. Don’t order pasta.

..Started with a dinner salad, my gosh why would you serve a salad with lettuce that has brown edges? Really? Seriously? You pay premium prices, and expect quality in return, this is not the first time, yuk. Im so tired of going out to eat, and getting bad food. If the salad was not enough, the food was’ nt what it used to be :( The manager/owner stood in front of the salad bar had a loud conversation INSPANISH, with a co worker, annoying … We are done with this place too in Pedro …

I came here today because it was the first place I found for breakfast. There were only four tables with customers and the rest of the restaurant was empty. It took the server 20 minutes to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink. Looks like she just lost her tip. As for the waitress, the first thing I noticed was how dirty her uniform shirt was. We ordered the pancake combination for one of our dishes. The menu said it consisted of three pancakes with eggs and choice of meat. When it arrived, there were only two pancakes. It also came with hashbrowns and fruit, which was not listed on the menu. We brought this to the waitresses attention. Clearly the staff does not know their own menu. The coffee was luke warm, not hot. Spoke to the manager named Carol and asked her if she allowed her employees come to work with dirty shirts. She said not often but she might have some clean ones in the back. SMH. She seemed a bit unconcerned with her staffs appearance and response times. I heard Carol speak to her employee and the waitress yelled«really. «Guess she didn’t think her shirt was dirty. I will not be back here. Highly disappointed with this establishment. And at the last second before we were walking out to pay, the waitress comes back and says I believe this is your new check. They gave us a 10% discount. I did not want a discount. I wanted a waitress with a clean shirt and an order that was correct with hot coffee.

Prices too high. Service so-so. Booth and carpet not cleaned. Sandwich greasy. Oatmeal presented nicely. Would we go back? Naw… So sad to say that.

Not so impressive when we first came in. Thought we could get a whole pie because the front desk said so but turned out to be false. Apple pie usually tastes pretty good but I can’t believe that it serves pies that fall apart. Wow… So much disappointment.

Ordered breakfast. Food came and it was cold. My French Toast was good.(It was brought out after my eggs and hash browns so it was warm) It just seemed kind of blah at this location. :(

We came in on Turkey Day they were only serving Turkey or Ham NOMENU not knowing how much it was going to cost. It was way over price. The food wasn’t that good baby carrots & yams had no flavor & the drink were NOT made well. The rest of it just okay BUT not worth $ 75.87. For 3 people.

So we go to this place frequently. You have to know who’s section to sit in because some of the people that work here are just crappy servers and NEVERNEVERNEVER come on a Sunday night(servers and management sucks)… Back to the review… Last night we noticed that the menu had changed and we all know that means the prices went up as well. After looking and the average price of the meal we promptly got up and left… $ 15 for a salad? $ 20.00 for a dinner? Your looking at a check average of $ 30 plus per person. I don’t know about you but that’s too rich for my pocket and the food is definitely not that good.

I don’t understand places that ask you how you want your burger cooked and then just cook it well done every time. Get a cook with a half bit of basic skill and common sense.

Their pies are very good. Unfortunately do not have too many people coming in it seems. Could spruce up a bit the space.

It’s a chain that offers average food at decent prices. Occasionally, they will have a whole pie sale(read the fine print for exceptions) which is quite a deal. Make sure to take back the pie tin for a refund on the deposit. Conveniently located in the ‘hood, It’s a nice alternative when you can’t decide on what you want and are too lazy to drive around foraging for eats.

When a customer walks in, the(DINKY compared to other Marie’s locations) pie case is COMPLETELYEMPTY, and they ask what if anything is still available, why would the counter server not once but twice reply(within earshot of THEMANAGER), well it’s easier for me to tell you what we DON’T have??? Are you kidding me? Makes the entire staff appear as morons with no training/coaching whatsoever. Too bad Amalfitano’s was closed.

Dear Marie Callender’s, You make really tasty pie. And coffee. And cornbread. And your salad bar is A-OK. You saved my family last Thanksgiving when we decided to ditch our reservation at a swanky Long Beach restaurant after we waited 3 hours. But…but…but…you’re way too expensive(for what you are, a glorified diner)! Don’t you cater to senior citizens? They don’t want to be spending their Social Security and pension checks paying for a «night out.» C’mon now! Sincerely, Pie Lovin’ Cheapskate
