This place is a family favorite! My parents, my husband, my son, and I went to eat here last Friday night. We were glad we had a reservation that night because the place was hopping! We were seated and waited on right away. The chips and salsa were delicious. Our food was prepared to order and was hot, tasty, and delicious. My husband and I ordered a combo plate, which was more than enough food to satisfy our hungry appetites. Topping off the meal were large, puffy, delicious sopapillas only made better with some honey, butter, and sugar. These were included with our meal. The dining experience was a great one and we will definitely be back on future Red River trips.

Just ok. This place would not survive in a city with high-quality Mexican food. It seems to be a lack of competition that allows it to stay in business. If you are craving Mexican food and can’t wait until you get home, give it a try. But be prepared to be disappointed unless you lower your expectations. A lot.

The food was a little less than average. However, we come from Houston where the best tex-mex is at every corner. Salsa, cheese, fajitas were all bland. The cheese enchiladas were good. It’s definitely not somewhere I would go back but it was an average place. Good service.

Pretty good Mexican restaurant. We were used to getting free tortillas and queso, but this place charged a couple bucks for tortillas and $ 4 – 5 for queso. The queso wasn’t very good, but our tacos and enchiladas were great. Also, the enormous sopapilas we got for desert were a big hit.

It was really great! The margaritas were good and everything we ordered was also really good. We had a very awesome waitress and an overall good experience.

Delicious. Great Chile Rellenos! Good Agave Margaritas and cheese enchiladas. Off the main road but full. Great staff. Will go again!

Great service, pretty nice ambience, but the food was just OK. Crossover between a grill and a Mexican food place. It’s hard to find good evening dinner options in Red River, but this was a little more than we would have liked to pay for the food caliber.

Options this time of year are Very limited, trying to be objective. Our family has dined @ Sundance more than Ten times, this was our last visit. The guacamole salad is not 100% avocados, not sure what additives are in it, very bland stay away. I ordered the beef tacos, the beef that was in the taco was very dry, like reheated from a couple days, stay away. My wife ordered sour cream chicken enchiladas, very little chicken and not fresh, not sure many days it had been cooked, or possibly out of a can. Prices for quality, way too expensive. Help was decent, food was not. As mentioned, not many restaurants open for dinner, options limited, suggesting if you’re for good New Mexican food, this is not the place, frozen dinners an option.

This is not what you would expect. My very thought after our meal was I had to make a reservation for this? Totally over priced. The salsa is Pace salsa out of a jar. The queso seems like it’s just heated up velveta. The food was left in the warmer too long so the edges were hard. Oh and the«famous soppapilla» is more or less just a dinner roll. I would NOT recommend this place nor would I ever go back.

This restaurant suffers from a lack of competition. A good Mexican restaurant would put them out of business.

The best Mexican New-Mexican food north of Taos. As a local I love their good food and sopapillas. This place is especially good for dinner and I have yet to order anything I wasn’t satisfied with.

Not sure why they call it Mexican food. Food is bland compared to Tex-Mex or NM style restaurants. The wait is always far too long. I’ve been coming here with friends & family for years & think the real reason for coming is nostalgia & not the food or service.

This place was probably one of the busiest restaurants in town for the 4th of July so I had high expectations. Well first of, this is a New Mexican restaurant, not Mexican. We received chips and salsa which were ok. I ordered guacamole for my kid since he likes avocado so much and we got some pale green dip — made me think of avocado with sour cream(WTF?), they don’t have a liquor license so they only sell Sangria and beer. I ordered the rolled chicken breast and it was ok… the one thing that was great were the sopapillas but I think it’s hard to mess those up – overall experience, disappointing. If you want to eat well in Red River, bring your own food.

Been going here for 15 years and never had a bad meal. Great service, great food and great prices. And sopapillas! What else can you ask for?

Ok. not a fan of the margarita sir anything else that was recommended. I wouldn’t come again unless it was my only choice. Service…slow We had two meals and they were so bad that I would rather have Taco Bell. $ 85 tab… not worth it. Go to the grocery store.

We ate here on our 4th night in Red River and Maggie was a fantastic waitress! The food was good but I thought there was a little too much cheese on my beef burrito. I could hardly taste the actual beef. My husband loved the chicken enchiladas with red sauce. The highlight of the meal was the sopapillas! So good and huge!

The atmosphere is very inviting plus the staff is always super accommodating and pleasant. The fireplace is always burning and so nice. The food is traditional New Mexican. The homemade salsa and dessert sopapillas are very good. The food is always hot and consistent at a good price. There is better food but it’s not in the town of Red River. We eat here a couple times a year when we are in town. We feel like it is a must do when we are in the area.

Ate here last night during the off-season. Food was as good as always. The wait staff was great and attentive but not all up over us. The highlight of the evening was the huge, homemade sopapillas that were brought out piping hot to the table for dessert. These delectable treats are included in the meal. It’s always a go-to spot when in Red River, NM.

Another terrible red river dining establishment. I dont know how these overpriced places stay in business. The salsa was tasteless and the queso was concession stand quality. There were no unique New Mexican dishes on the menu so I settled for enchiladas. $ 14 for three bland enchiladas. Maybe I’m spoiled with Mexican food from Texas, but I would at least have expected some New Mexican red and green chilli but this place had none.

If your looking for a nice, family friendly gig — don’t miss out on dining at Sundance. We dined here on a Saturday night during our stay in Red River. We had heard good things and we were eager to give it a shot. Upon our arrival, the restaurant seemed busy, but we were immediately seated and given tortilla chips(with seasoning of some sort) and salsa(tasted like Pace Picante sauce). Our waitress, Michelle, was nothing short of friendly and offered us drinks almost immediately. I decided to try an Agave Wine margarita(heard good things) and was pleasantly surprised. A little tart, but overall a tasty treat. My husband ordered the Super Nachos, and I opted for the Enchilada Torta — corn tortilla topped with enchilada sauce, cheese, beans, beef, sour cream, lettuce, tomato and topped with guacamole. It was scrumptious. I wasn’t able to finish it, but my husband eagerly finished it for me. The finale — at the end of the meal, complementary sopapillas are offered. Um, yes! They were warm, doughy and paired with a creamy butter and honey. Definitely rounded out the meal and made Sundance something to talk about.
