I am very surprised at the negative reviews!!! Dr. Otten and ALL of his staff are absolutely professional! Maybe it’s because I have never had a bad experience in this field, but I find Dr. Otten highly professional and knowledgeable. I have always been treated with the utmost respect and I have never had an insurance or billing issue. Hmmm, I guess it just goes to show that some people are NEVER happy… Keep it up Dr. Otten, YOUROCK!

I read the reviews and I should have taken all the advice… but I didn’t! :(I have been seeing Dr. Otten for about 10 years, he is the only eye doctor I’ve been to so I don’t really have much to go on. I read Rachel O’s review and what do you know? I got charged an extra $ 50(I already paid $ 30 for my co-pay) after my stupid appointment. I don’t have eye issues at all, I thought this was just a routine check up. Oh and I had to wait over an HOUR with the door open to other patients(that’s not akward at all). Aside from the billing drama, Dr. Otten is a nice doctor. He is personable and I could see how he is a good eye doctor for kids. In the past I have felt pressured to visit the frames guy on site. Now I will say they have a great selection of designer glasses, I felt compelled to purchase a pair there. This time I stood my ground. And what do you know? He told me that they didn’t take my insurance and he couldn’t even sell me a pair of glasses! Dodge that bullet… it only cost me an extra $ 50!

Absolutely befuddling billing practices. As a part of my insurance program I am supposed to be entitled to a free bi-annual eye exam. The«free» exam ended being billed at $ 350. Why? It was coded as a medical visit, apparently because I at one time had lasik, so my eyes are not«normal». Dr.s’ diagnosis: «Your eyes are fine. See you in two years.» I still have no idea what the heck is going on, and when I call to straighten it out, I get no clear answers to my questions! Office told me to contact my insurance provider, which I did. They clearly stated it was billed as medical — but again, no idea why. I brought the SAMEEYES to Dr. Otten three years ago and it was submitted as a routine visit. NOTHING about my eyes or vision has changed substantively in that time interval. Supremely frustrating. I will be looking for another practitioner, even though the basic medical care I received was very good.

Wow– the previous reviews are so different from my experience I just had to chime in. My family has been coming to this practice for at least 10 years and service has always been wonderful. We switched when my 17 yr old was 7 and our previous doctor was not kid-friendly at all. We do get glasses from them and contacts elsewhere– have never ever had an issue getting a copy of the prescription– all it takes is a phone call and it’s ready at the desk when I stop by, assuming it is current(within the past year). They are wonderful about handling insurance as well. And Don pushy? Not even close. He was the most patient man in the world while my daughter tried on almost every single pair of frames and has gone out of his way to order samples in other colors and slightly different styles for her to try. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

My family used to come here years ago but stopped because the service was so bad. Save yourself some time and go elsewhere.

I have been going to this eye doctor for 5+ years now, and each time I go, I am increasingly disappointed with the service I get. It began with long waits– upwards of an hour past my appointment time. Ok– sometimes you are running late? However it has become a frequent occurrence. Recently, they have started asking if you want a «full eye exam»(or something along those lines) and make you sign a waver. DONOTSIGNTHIS! You are already there for an eye exam, and this is just a way for them to charge you personally, in addition to your insurance. They will also funnel you directly to order your contacts and glasses from their resident specialist. He is very pushy, and makes you feel guilty for saying no. In fact, you pretty much have to rip your Rx for contacts/glasses out of his hands to be able to use it elsewhere.(Go to Costco– get the lenses for 1⁄3 the price). Oh and if you lose your Rx, or someone takes the original, you are completely screwed. First, they will refuse to give you another copy without coming in for another FULL appointment– even if you have been there in the past 3 months. If you yell long enough, they will sigh and say that they will charge you a fee and send you a new Rx. Great. With further yelling, you can eventually get what you need. But trust me, it does not come easy. Dr. Otten has gone from great doctor, to slimy salesman, and I strongly discourage anyone from visiting his office.
