Toshi’s Teriyaki

Walked in here one afternoon and asked for the advertised Tandoori chicken special. They didn’t have enough for a full plate (they were still making more for the evening), so the owners asked if it was ok to serve what they had along with some other dishes. They were very apologetic. I said sure, they served me a great meal and when I tried to pay they said it was on the house. That’s customer service.

I’ve been going out of my way to visit this specific Toshi’s for 12 years. I was walking by when I happened to glance at the menu and read «Indian Style Curry,» so I decided to give it a try. It’s sooooo good. The indian flavoring is so good. I live in Seattle now but every time I swing by the east side, I drop by this Toshi’s for some Indian style curry or spicy chicken.

I’ve been coming here since 1991 or 1992 and the same people still run it. I stopped in to pick up my favorite teriyaki sauce to take back to TX with me (a place that is devoid of any decent teriyaki).
They have added a number indian items here but there teriyaki is still very good. I was bummed that its not as popular as it was. Back in the day the grill was fully loaded with skewers and everything you got was guaranteed right off the grill — I noticed my skewer was partially grilled when the put it on the grill :-(
Still it was very good and tender and the sauce is the best!

I read good reviews about this place and tried it two times (two times just to give them a fair shot) and was dissapointed both the times.
The food was already pre-​cooked (probably a few hours before) and I am pretty sure they re-​heated it in microwave before giving it to me.
I was not particularly impressed with the indian Items on the menu either.
This place probably popular at some point but I think its over now! Avoid it — there are much better Teriyaki places in Redmond Area.

So I walk in expecting to see mostly just teriyaki on the menu. Turns out they also have Indian food. I mostly remember seeing a variety of curries on the list. Unexpected!
So anyway. I got some take-​out and it was… a-​ok. The serving was big so it was enough food for two people. The chicken was good, but the rice wasn’t that good. I think it was under or overcooked. I can’t recall which.
All in all… it’s a solid teriyaki joint… that also serves Indian food. I just hope the rice is usually much better than it was that day.

Try the indian stuff on the menu. You won’t be disappointed. The sliced spicy chicken is fantastic, and I’ve been getting it for years. I can’t remember the last time I got any of the teriyaki on the menu, so this review isn’t about that. Get the indian stuff. Nuff said.

This Toshi’s Teriyaki has been in this location for a while.
It’s good «fast» food. They have also added the choice of brown rice. I usually get the short ribs. my husband likes the steak skewer and spicy chicken combo.
With the cold June, I have tried the curry dishes and have been enjoying them. I love the chicken curry, beef curry and chicken keema. This is where we go for something fast.
They do have a loyal customer base that I’m happy for. I was waiting for an order the other day when another customer came by to drop off bags of rice. On the way out he said «your customers will not let you run out of rice.» This was his way of helping in the perceived shortage of rice. With customers like that, I hope that they continue for a long while.
This is mostly a take out place. The place is small but they do have 2 small tables inside. When the weather is nice, they place additional 2 small tables outside.
I don’t know if this is a franchise since there are other Toshi’s Teriyaki. I haven’t been to other Toshi’s, only because of location so I don’t know how this compares. This one is conveniently close to our home, and I’m very happy and thankful for that.

This one is apparently owned by an Indian rather than a Korean (a real surprise in the local teriyaki industry… I can see The Onion’s headlines about it now).
What that means is that you can order from a handful of Indian dishes in addition to the teriyaki.
The combo plate with spicy chicken and teriyaki beef skewers, for example. That’s not teriyaki spicy chicken. It’s Indian curry-​type spicy chicken, pre-​cooked and dry as cardboard. And it contrasted in a very bad way with the skewer, which was traditional teriyaki sauced and pretty tasty.
In any case, I don’t really recommend this location unless you just buy beef skewers.
