This is a good thing to see. many boats has decorated their hulls and mast. be ready for a hunt for a parking space. very popular. plan to arrive way in advance, by 5 pm is best. and enjoy the show. this is what the US is all about putting up a show and enjoy! and don’t forget to bring up the kids! Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

We at least try to go to the Boat Parade every year, and even though it’s the same people mostly doing the same thing time after time, it’s one of those Christmas traditions at the beach that you can’t get rid of. The Redondo Marina has a decent array of boats(sorry that our moderate sized beach community doesn’t live up to the wealthy in Huntington, Cheri A. G.) with a lot of little fishing boats, a couple of sail boats, and lots of decorated dinghies. Every year, Body Glove has the Grand Marshal of the parade. Typically an actor of some sort, but always one of those«Oh, that’s that one guy from…» type actors. Most of the boats crank up the stereo and have Christmas music on full blast, and from the wall by Portofino and Joe’s Crab Shack, you can hear and see everything. Make sure you bring your own thermos of hot chocolate and two towels: one for sitting on, one for wrapping around you after it gets dark. We always go right before sunset and sometimes bring dinner so that we can enjoy the sunset and we have the best seats in the house. Just be careful– things that fall below the wall will forever reside with the crabs and the ocean. I saw a guy retrieve his cell phone once, and he returned with soggy clothes and many scratches. I don’t even know how he got down/up. Merry Christmas!

This past Friday was Redondo Beach’s Christmas Boat Parade in the marina. It started at 5:30 and Rick Hearst from General Hospital was the Grand Marshal(I don’t know who he is either). We parked near the On The Rocks sports bar and walked out the little pier by Polly’s and found some rocks on a jetty and watched the boats all decorated with lights parade around and show off their boats. This was my first boat parade in Redondo but not my first boat parade I use to go to the Huntington Harbor and Balboa parades. Redondo’s was good but Newport and Huntington have some REALLY big boats and lots more of them.
